    Literally just bought the larger OEX stove, when speaking to the sale staff they mentioned you and how much influence you have over the sales of their stock. You know you’ve made it when a big store use you as a reference. Well done mate, keep them coming 👍

    The larger OEX package meets my needs best: the size is right; the Tocana is more flexible. I am more likely to use pouches of food that need reheating. When out for even a weekend, I feel better with a larger fuel canister. I also bring a frying pan so the kit that comes with the Tocana is a 'win' for me.

    I've just ordered the Tocarna. As a complete camping novice, I like that it comes with the accessories that the Heiro lacks, and you simply can't beat the price at the moment.
    Not coming with the cannister legs comes over as a bit cheap...

    OEX Heiro for me, paid £36 a few weeks back. Bought cannister stand for £3.99 on Amazon and pot stand from ebay £7.50 all new delivered

    Ordered the tacana the other day, just seems a better all rounder. Fit everything inside, no need to buy canister or pot stand seperate. I'm not fussed about the boil time, what's a minute or so longer to boil 🤷‍♂️ proof is in the pudding I guess, so I'll see once it arrives. Don't think you can really go wrong for the price. Great vid 👍

    Taking zero credit from the tacana, just giving the Heiro a little more credit….. the lid doubles up as a strainer and turns the whole thing into a sippy cup! Looking forward to your next camp Dan 👍

    I bought the hiero for £27.99 before Xmas at go outdoors (I’m sure that was the price). then got the two supports from eBay. They both look fine tbh. Defo the smaller one for me especially if I’m taking the frying pan and having to carry water. Love the stove tho.

  • @MINKIN2
    @MINKIN2 7 месяцев назад +1

    Easy choice. I would go with the Hero as I have a Fire Maple X1 and that is a good sized pot, so having the option for a smaller stove would be nice.

  • @timwalker218
    @timwalker218 7 месяцев назад

    The heiros a similar size to the jet boil zip. As we know half the price . Is the tacana a more size to the jetboil flash..which is over £100…Do the zip and jetboil flash cone with pan stands.included ..as far as i know the zip didn’t come with the pan stand anyway.…( just referenceing the jet boils.)…The heiros are tidy and compact…but i’m going to look at the tacana in a minute.…
    Dans mate thanks for the heads up
    cheers Dan..

    That Dan was a great review, many thanks. I have been using my hammock through winter using a foil blanket as my thermal insulator. Last night, I rigged up an old sleeping bag as an under blanket and really liked how it performed. So I am going to buy an under blanket for my hammock. Can you advise with your wisdom, which would be a good one without costing a fortune? Regards Lee

    I bought the Fire Maple Polaris which looks very similar, i paid £79 so likely got ripped there if the OEX one is only £39!. But the Fire Maple is alot cheaper than the Jet Boil and you tend to get everything you need. I do use the Jet Boil gas cannisters thought as they fit in the cup nicely as you demonstrated.

    The tenner less for the tocana is actually saving you 25 quid (no brainer)...it literally comes down to if your willing to carry the extra weight.

    Just got the larger tacana from GoOutdoors, one small criticism tho - it clearly says it fits the 230g gas canister inside it, so got a 230g from GoOutdoors (literally the shelf next to the stove), but when i got home i found that it doesn’t quite fit properly, even if you take out the pan adapter it sits about 10mm above the rim - you can still sort of put the lid on and get it in the bag, but you cant seal it. I dont know if this is just the dimensions of the 230g cannisters GoOutdoors are selling right now, but just thought i'd share my 2 cents on that.

    I just brought a rip off version of one of these a month or so ago, your reading my mind. Mine holds 1.4-1.5ltrs of water and I wondered if I needed such a big one when it would be only me using it. I see the benefits of the small one if it's just you going camping, but to have the option of more water if needed for others is worth it. Still think I'll get the smaller one though too, only 300g ❤

    If you can afford both, get both, but, if you can only afford one then definitely buy the Tacana as it's much more versatile and you get everything you need like the pan stand and more importantly you get the gas can stand which with these style burners being so tall are definitely a must to keep it standing upright

    Dan, as always good informative vid,Im not a big fan of all the Jetboil type stoves out there lol,I bought one a few years ago to see what all the hype was about cheap for £20 from Planet X think its called a Jobsworth lol,in the occassional time that I use it stays in car boot as back up ect it has been ok Boils Water lol simple,it had a safety recall on it though I never bothered to send it back for a refund,I know quite a few who never bothered and still use it regulary lol.Keep up the good work Dan.

    Hi Dan,
    Reference you comment about using the water to make a brew after you cooked your boil in the bag. The British army have been doing for years, on the vehicle's we get a box like kettle called a boiling vessel BV for short and sometimes the meals would be in them for hours but we always use the water after for hot drinks.

    I'm on my second Tocana stove, the first one leaked gas like it was going out of fashion. It's replacement I've only used a couple of times & it seems to blow out quite easily so maybe I need a wind break whilst using it. The only other thing the starter isn't the best & very hit n miss so I purchased a separate lighter to used or at least have with me. But if you can get one for £39 at the moment that's not bad & I may by another one for spare parts 🤔😉

    I have the heiro stove and you can definitely fit the small canisters inside. The small canister comes in two shapes. You need the short wider (not jetboil or msr) one and you can fit the jetboil canister stand in it as well. If you do use msr or jetboil canister you will find the hole in the middle of the lid is designed to line up with the thread fitting and holds the gas canister in place.
    Also Dan removed the tag from the valve handle. Makes storing it a whole lot easier.

    I've always been more old school using the hexi stove and blocks.. sometimes I'll take the portable gas stove that doubles up into a heater with the gas canisters but that's only if I'm using the vehicle. I've never actually used the more modern one's you see everyone using nowadays..I've just never seen it as a necessity if I've got a fire going.

    Great review Dan, personally my kit consists of just four cooking kits, Trangia triangle, Large bush box, Kelly kettle,, Soto wind master and gas canister along with a few titanium pots and a pan. Usually take wind master along with bush box or the trangia triangle with kelly kettle and of course pots an pan with either pairing. Either suits my cooking requirements just fine.

    I went through all this and then went for the Tacana, not least because I sometimes camp with heavier gear, not walking so far, but then having more space in a bigger tent - and more comfort for long weekends.
    I also use the Tacana set up to brew myself tea on my allotment, out the back of the car.
    The Heiro is more for the solo hill hiker, or for a minimalist backpacker, determined to keep pack weight down to a minimum.
    I guess if you are just stopping in one place for the one night, then the small Heiro pot size is enough to heat smaller amounts of water for drinks and dehydrated meals. You can carry a small gas canister to match that lightweight goal.
    When shopping around, there are obviously other good brands with similar or identical gear, like the Fire Maple.

    Had a tacana for over a year now and think it's great, you can also store the gas cylinder inside the tacana which keeps it all tucked away in one unit when stored. The bottom of the gas can sits inside the top of the stove/burner nicely and will protect the igniter
