I wanted to ask something about the '96 model CRV I bought three weeks ago. So after just one week, I managed to overheat the engine and blew through the head gasket. My dumb ass didn't pay attention to the engine temp and didn't notice the radiator fan gave out. It has 120km on it when I got it so I guess it's due for a rebuild anyway. Thankfully, other than the gaskets, everything looks fine, that's what the mechanic told me.
I just had it fixed a week ago and so far, no leaks, no overheat, but I still have a few issues with it.
First is the power steering, it's heavy. It's a japanese model converted to left-hand drive. The pump's working, but the reservoir spills fluid when you force to turn the wheel quickly. I'm hoping you could give me an idea of what could possibly cause this.
Second, the transmission. Light step on the gas is no problem, it shifts consistently at around 2k rpm from first to fourth gear. When I increase the pressure on the pedal though, or when going uphill, there's a significant delay specially when shifting from third gear to fourth gear. It'll ramp up to around 2500-3000 rpm before the fourth gear engage, or if you let off the pedal. I've already talked to the guy that fixed the head gasket but admittedly, he's not a transmission specialist, he told me I might have to swap out the transmission. The person I bought the car from told me that it's only being used once a year before I got it so I was wondering, could the tranny really be that bad that it needs to be swapped out/rebuilt? Is there a simple diagnosis that I could perform to rule out anything else that could cause this? I've already talked to three shops that I found online that are supposedly transmission specialist, but the nearest was a 3hr drive from home so they haven't really checked the car in person yet BUT, I was able to explain the symptoms to them through the phone and they're already giving me a quote for the rebuild/swap and asking me to schedule an appointment right away 😅
Like any reasonable car owner, I wouldn't like getting ripped off. I was hoping you, or anyone in the comments could give me some advice on where or what to look for to diagnose a bad transmission. I don't mind getting my hands dirty, and honestly I want to learn. I've always liked the CRV and now I got one, be nice to fix stuffs on it myself.

I know you’re really busy but What is the best way to remove the washer bottle for the wipers, I’ve looked all over youtube but the only video is the way you would remove the pumps.
