I remember driving a cig/ vep 12 car out of vic on the down Brighton fast many years ago and getting the right away same time as a Surrey hills charter was leaving platform 2 or 3, with Flying Scotsman hauling it. I probably spoiled someone’s day by keeping my cab alongside ( but about three tracks over from)the A3. The coal was pretty smoky and obviously was all starting to really catch as the engine got stuck into Grovesnor bank, and there was a lot of black smoke. I was really enjoying watching the show and could see someone in the first compartment right behind me, just reading the paper. And they either didn’t notice or couldn’t be bothered to even look up! There was probably people further back down my train, nose to the window, willing me to get a bloody move on. So the driver on that 700 certainly isn’t any kind of enthusiast or they’d have pulled alongside and stayed there.
@@g4vvz I well remember standing on top of Copenhagen Tunnel photographing the last Deltics in the late 70s, and recalling this is the exact spot where the railway scenes of the original 'The Lady Killers' was filmed. Peter Sellers, Herbert Lom etc. etc.
Very fortunate timing with the other traffic, kind of looked like a model train layout. I would have said it "thundered" out of the station. To me "stormed" implies speed, which it wasn't up to yet, but great scene, well photographed.
Thameslink driver: people sitting on the left, you will be able to see Sir Nigel Gresley, people sitting on the right, you will be able to see the people looking at Sir Nigel Gresley
Which Christmas Market is that, then? Oh, that would be the garden sheds selling over-priced tat on Parliament Street. Go to Lincoln next time, but don't expect to see much except the back of the head of the person in front of you.
Superb footage there 1st class
Many thanks!
Thankyou very much!
Perfect timing with the overground train and the Thameslink just holding back enough!
Yes indeed!

A magnificent shot, it’s great to see 4498 back on the mainline again. Best regards Rowan.
Certainly is, glad you enjoyed the clip!
Great shots. Thanks for putting them on RUclips! 👍👍👍
No problem, glad you enjoyed them
Great catch of the departure. Three trains in the video, but only one had any character.
Thanks, certainly the most dramatic of the 3!
i love the relative quiet of loco haul carriages after the loco has passed.
Great video!
We met on the way back to the Cross....
Thanks! Great to chat to you on the way back - will be re-watching the Ladykillers soon!
How Belle Isle and Copenhagen Tunnels area has changed since the days of A4's and the Deltic era...unrecognisable...
Indeed it has

Actually 4! Either a javelin or Eurostar going into HS1 tunnel right at the start!
Nice capture of this A4 - big thumb from me :) 👍🙂
Thanks!

No wonder its so slow getting out of KC having to tow that 65 ton deadweight diesel at the back.
112 tons.
