Panic! At The Disco drummer Dan Pawlovich has disrupted a centuries-old traditional design by asking a simple question - how can I make a drum sound better? Inspired by 3D printing’s ability to manufacture complex geometries, Dan worked with Stratasys Direct Manufacturing to build five iterations of his snare drum designs. Видеоклипы
Great video - Amazing to see what 3D printing can do!
instaBlaster...
This is incredible! If you start making them regularly I’d definitely grab one.
This makes so much sense
I love the sound of both...super punchy with a good lowend.
Beautiful beautiful boy. And his hair rn?? Hell yes! Can’t wait for pics of him with the baby
@Zayne Pierce wait what... actually
I like it!
Game changer
WOW! 👏👏👏
Holy crap do they sound good!!!
With how much infill were the shells printed.? I'm working on a privat project like that actually...
Give us the CAD files
I'll try remake them
@@markhunter1993 yes brooo
The biggest issue is getting a printer big enough
@@markhunter1993 dude I know some people. If you got the files we can make this happen. I'm an undergrad physics student and I could use the engineering labs here.
@@gardenguster5271 awesome! I study 3D visualisation and animation.
How... when can I purchase one for my son who is a music teacher now ?
thats great.......where can i get one?
Amazing! Amazing! Amazing! What were the drums made out of? Carbon Fiber or Nylon-infused?
According to the case study, the FDM drum was Nylon 12CF. The LS snare was Nylon 12GF, some glass/nylon material.
You can learn more about FDM Nylon 12CF here: www.stratasysdirect.com/materials/thermoplastics/nylon#nylon-12-cf-fdm
and more about LS Nylon 12GF here: www.stratasysdirect.com/materials/thermoplastics/nylon#nylon-12-gf
is it out in the market?? I'd like to sell and distribute in the Philippines!
Drum Company: Wait, that's illegal
What does something like this run?
Can we have the Cad or stl file
Not a new idea , had been done where the lugs are part of the shell
ah but this fella decided to patent this, gotta love intellectual property.
The two snares are different depths. That’s why the black one sounds higher in pitch. 😂
How much for one ?
This next generation technology
"sounds drastically different". Yeah... it's a different depth and tuned higher. Heads, depth and tuning affect sounds 100X more than the shell.
How can us normal people get these? I just want 2" deep Tom shells (12", 14" and 16" diameter}
Like concert toms with no resonant head?
Luckily nothing is stopping you from getting your own large format printer and making your own drums.
I would at least have matching hoop color
I’m a simple gal. I see Dan? I see drums? I see two in one? I click.
Get a patent on that thing right now!
This is a game changer kinda surprised dw hasn’t done this better get a patent quick like before dw rips this off
Both drums have DW snare throw offs mounted on them.
@@musikman43204 that just means he bought that throw off
Panic! At The 3Disco
I really don’t think there’s anything special about lugs that are part of the shell other than it will cut the cost of wholesaling pre made lugs
2:10 This isnt a good experiment. Of course the timbre would be different. The geometry isn’t controlled.

The sound quality is kinda bad tho
Use different heads and tune differently. Most drums sound "good" or "bad" depending on the heads, tuning and what you like. Mostly, on what you like.
he also said they "sound totally different", and they sounded pretty much the same. he seems to have just tuned them the same, and they do sound very muffled rather than resonating, which isnt surprising when theyre plastic, its going to sound more like an acrylic kit.
