I find it difficult to believe that all those jobs actually had relevance and meaning to the person applying. She said you have to break out of the pandemic mentality and network with real people. As someone who was in that position up until recently, I can confirm that yes, it was horrible. And the job I recently got was indeed through meeting someone in person instead of an online posting.

I called the property hiring for a follow up on my application, and after the receptionist put me on hold to speak to the director in charge (hopefully the receptionist wasn’t lying and actually did that), she said, “Oh, I’ve just been informed that the position is filled already.” But, a month has gone by and the position still stayed open and they’re still staying it’s “filled.” That’s bs right there.
I started reporting jobs on Indeed. I applied, day after they sent me letter that they hired someone. Two days later same job posting. Hell NO… you will be reported. Which I recommend everyone to do, they eventually will be banned from Indeed.
@@zohaibabbasi5670 if you apply over Indeed, on the bottom after “apply” option there is option “report job”. I reported dozens. Best case scenario, Indeed will ban them until they figure out new name and new ghost job and then cycle will start again 🤷♀️
I heard someone describe how their former company once posted a fake job posting online to threaten their current employees that they might be replaced 😬 it was only live for a week or two Also, another red flag I've seen 🚩 is that a job description for a ghost job listing will be 95% bragging about the company and 5% describing the role, especially if all the company information comes first. Or the role description is super short and vague.
I don't understand it. If I was a horrible person in the comapny posting a ghosting job, I would still do a good describing of the job. Based on current jobs that already exist and with help of chat gpt this should be a quick thing to do...

Yes because an HR dept cost money and they think that non-HR people can do it. However HR has special training and it usually goes badly when clueless admins try to do the HR job in a larger company.

We have a 2/3 hybrid policy for a Return to Office - if you live within 26 miles of the office. I'm the *only one* on my team within 26 miles of the office. 20+ miles (each way) times 3 days / week equals ~120 miles. At 20 mpg and an average of $3.50/gall of gas, that's about an extra $20/week it costs me to go to the office to be in the same Teams meetings I'm in at home. Their compensation? Snacks on Thursday! (I've seen them separating 3-packs of Cracker Jacks to pass out 1/person. Don't even ask for 2! Oddly, they get just as mad when I say "no thank you") Oh, yes, they'll be tracking attendance (badge swipes). This will 1. be reported to upper management 2. included on your Performance review. Yes, clueless monkeys could do a better job.

One of my previous employers had to advertise a position each time they intended to promote an employee. HR aimed to make sure there weren't any stronger candidates available.
That's pretty standard in the UK. If it's a new position you have to post it publicly, at least in public institutions and a lot of charities. I'm not sure if it's the law for all jobs. I've seen this in science when someone has done a PhD in a hyper specific field and is ready to take it to post doc...and they still put the post doc out. As if anyone else can ever compete. I think you should have to declare their is an internal candidate already on the list before job is shared.
So this has been a problem my ENTIRE career. I stopped applying for jobs and opened my own business because despite having a great resume and training and education I wasn’t getting interviews. For years. Failing companies in my town were widely advertising for hiring yet never hired anyone. I spent years applying to jobs that didn’t exist.

It took me four months of applying and interviewing constantly to get an offer I accepted. Soooo many jobs reposted or did not ever send me an email after an interview. It was awful.
Speaking of Coursera, I would suggest to make an account and have your tab readily open. One thing she didn't mention is that users can audit the course, which is great. So I can always jump into Coursera whenever I need to brush up concepts. Then o.c if you want the cert you need to pay a small fee each month. I wanted to look up at a hrm course, and the second week of the first unit was all about recruitment and sourcing. What she is referring to here it's a talent pipeline, a life after lay off channel refers to as talent rank. Basically is a way of sourcing candidates for a certain point in the future, if the need arises. Or to execute a benchmark analysis in terms of external competitive advantage (high quality human capital=company competitive advantage). Yesterday I received a reply for a business dev rep position at an AI start-up, it was a half rejection. They could not proceed further with my application, though they were keeping my resume... thanks to channels like this one, I can regulate better myself when it comes to those scenarios. I'm more worried about the skills recruiters always add on the job posts, because no matter the time I put into continuous learning, I keep missing out...

Great advise. I think I've applied for 30-40 jobs and I would say 25% responded with either next steps, or a "better candidate" email. However, the position is still actively open. This is a total waste of time and only showcases the company is maybe not the right fit or risky. Also, all these companies using AI resume screening without ever talking to a live person, is another waste of time.

I not only dealt with ghost jobs but also bait & switch jobs and wages. A cell phone company reached out to me because they see my resume posted on a job site. They wanted me for a team lead position and work my decades of experience and proven meyrics I fit their requirements. Then, after the job offer they lowered the starting pay down to $16 an hour! Their reasoning? That's the lowest they found that people would accept. I told them for a starting position with absolutely no experience, maybe, but as an experienced team lead? Ridiculous!

What made me scratch my head during my last job search was the admin positions i applied to for boston longwood area hospitals/medical offices with less than 10 applicants and i never heard from them despite relevant experience and cover letters. We're talking 501(c)3 nonprofit orgs supposedly seeking operations coordinators and the like. I just dont get it
Great advice. Personally I only apply at places where I know someone. When someone I know can personally recommend me to the hiring manager I feel like it give me an edge. I also have an additional resource to ask questions and get to know the company well before I would even get an interview.

They have solid knowledge but lack practical experience. Why should this be a deal breaker? The lack of practice is often because colleges don’t offer enough hands-on opportunities, not the student's fault. Then there are work-study jobs. Schools usually have a list of companies that have committed to recruiting their students. However, in reality, these companies don’t always play fair. They often make promises to look good but don’t follow through. When I visit their websites, I often notice that they don’t offer these work-study positions and are only interested in experienced persons that have worked for a long time. This makes no sense because the purpose of work-study jobs is to gain experience in the workplace...

Only jobs I ever got off of linked in were ones where I was DM’ed by the recruiter. Some of those are scams too, but a lot are legitimate

What made me scratch my head during my last job search was the admin positions i applied to for boston longwood area hospitals/medical offices with less than 10 applicants and i never heard from them despite relevant experience and cover letters. We're talking 501(c)3 nonprofit orgs supposedly seeking operations coordinators and the like. I just dont get it
Great advice. Personally I only apply at places where I know someone. When someone I know can personally recommend me to the hiring manager I feel like it give me an edge. I also have an additional resource to ask questions and get to know the company well before I would even get an interview.
I finished 2 rounds interviews with one large bank😂didn't hear anything back from them for 3 weeks. Yesterday I just saw they posted the same job on their website again!? Why company does that....

@@EnlightenedMinarchist As a French guy, let me tell you that many people who have studied for five years after their high school exams (which is quite long) struggle to find a job. They have solid knowledge but lack practical experience. Why should this be a deal breaker? The lack of practice is often because colleges don’t offer enough hands-on opportunities, not the student's fault.
Then there are work-study jobs. Schools usually have a list of companies that have committed to recruiting their students. However, in reality, these companies don’t always play fair. They often make promises to look good but don’t follow through. When I visit their websites, I often notice that they don’t offer these work-study positions and are only interested in experienced persons that have worked for a long time. This makes no sense because the purpose of work-study jobs is to gain experience in the workplace...
