Fun fact: When the DuckTales cast did a live script reading of this episode, Ben Schwartz, who voices Dewey, was given an actual keytar that was programmed with all the same sound effects as the one in the show
And it's awesome, he's just as annoying as I hoped he would be!
And David Tennet was voicing Glomgold. The accent was something else.

Duckworth was a character in the original series! An alive one I mean. In the reboot, Ms. Beakly gained more importance, so having him would be redundant. But it was a really nice surprise for the fans to have him back around as a ghost now and then.
In the reboot's final episode, there is a sinister theory regarding Duckworth's death that appears as a clue in that final episode, but few people get it.
It just wouldn't be the same without him

"The duke is back" refers to that one scene in the internship episode where Huey stands on that table and shouts "Now I'm the duke of making a mess" while letting his insane side out. It's so awesome having seen this show twice already (and read the art book) and STILL noticing new stuff to pick up on. Also can I just saw that I love these reactions! DuckTales 2017 is one of my favourite shows of all time and this is a perfect excuse to get to experience it all again! I always cannot wait for new reactions to release, been looking forward to this all day!
The ghost Butler does stick around for the rest of the series not a lot but he does help out when he is needed

Huey is The Duke. Specifically, The Duke is the crazy side of Huey. The Duke made his first appearance in the Mark Beaks episode, where Huey refers to himself as ‘The Duke of Making a Mess.’

"How didja know it was me?!" "It's always you." "And it always will be!" Glomgold is so full of baloney. If Huey is the Duke of Making a Mess, you could say Glomgold is the Duke of Baloney.
Fans of the original DuckTales were wondering where Duckworth was, little did we know he'd been in the opening theme all along. He was quite prominent in the original show as Scrooge's unflappable no-nonsense (and alive) butler and chauffeur and foil to the more excitable and high-strung Ms. Beakley.

The Duke in general is associated with Huey he had a handful of nicknames with it or just 2 i don’t remember
On the security system, "DT 87" is a reference to the year that the original DuckTales series first aired.

Duckworth was just a regular living butler in earlier versions, and before this episode the old time fans were a bit upset that he'd apparently been cut out. Little did they know that not only would he be showing up like this, but he'd been in the opening credits in monster form the whole time!
And there is an explanation to his death in the reboot, but that is a spoiler of the final episode of the reboot in season 3.

@@IronDino It has nothing to do with Beakley, but the theory is by that way of Duckworth death was not of natural causes, but I can't say more because it will spoil season 3 and a final mystery of the reboot.

There was actually a live table read of this episode with the core cast plus Sam Riegel (Scanlan from Vox Machina, who was the voice director for Ducktales) that took place in Disneyland back in 2018. The “Duke” is referencing the episode where Huey and Dewey compete for an internship at Mark Beak’s business. Specifically the scene where Huey jumps on the counter and says “Well I’m the Duke of Making a Mess” (or something like that).
As someone who over analyzed that side of him (because that’s just what I do with my favorite characters), it’s deeply upsetting that I missed this tiny detail. But, at the same time, I’m glad you found it.
this was a long awaited return of one 80s charter who had yet to come back. and he was in the intro the whole time. The show runners even eased us by saying we had already seen him before his episode.

The Duke is a reference to a character we'll meet in season three, a bird version of David Bowie, a/k/a the Thin White Duke.

So, Scrooge McDuck was canonically born in 1877, and going by the technology in this show, it's meant to take place sometime around its airing year of 2017. This means he was 140 years old at the time of this episode! A longer than average life due to the various magic/cursed items he's found in his travels.

The voice actor of the original Duckworth died, so a ghost version became a tribute to him.
Duckworth was Scrooge's butler in the original series. When this reboot first aired I wondered about the character's absence, and I was sad when they said that the character had died. I should have known they were leading up to something awesome! Also, Duckworth's demon form appears briefly during the show's opening during the "might solve a mystery or rewrite history" line.
P sure the "Duke" in "The Duke is back" is just Dewey referencing back to him and Huey's internship with Mark Beaks. When Dewey got a higher position and Huey just broke. Referring to himself as "The Chief Manager of Being Broken" and "The Duke of Making a Mess." 😂
My favorite part of these videos are the predictions and the shockingly high hit rate. She is either so very right or so very wrong. And it's fun either way.
One thing I will tell you just so you don't get frustrated is that we TOTALLY learn everything about Launchpad and his secret escapades.
Especially when it turns out that he's an amnesiac super spy bent of ruining Scrooge and Beakly is there to keep an eye on him in case he regains his memory (which he does when she's indisposed after a run in with Magica).
Duckworth isn't always around, but he does show up here and again.
My favorite is when he leads Hughie and Webbie through the afterlife to reclaim Scrooge's soul.
In the Mark Beaks episode Huey goes a little crazy and calls himself the Duke of Making a Mess. It's sort of a running gag that sometimes gets mentioned when he gets like that.
Fun Fact: Duckworth was original voice by Chuck McCann in the older DuckTales and even continued to play the role when the DuckTales video game was remastered in 2013. One of his biggest roles was the G.I.Joe Leatherneck in the older G.I.Joe cartoons but he was also in a slew of other Disney shows that aired at the same time as the 87 DuckTales and was also the voice of the Dreamfinder in the original 1983 Journey Into Imagination ride in Epcot.
In this show, Duckworth is voiced by David Kaye who's mostly known for being Megatron in Transformers projects from 1996 to 2006. J.A.R.V.I.S. and Mysterio in animated Marvel-related projects after Disney bought Marvel, and Clank in the Ratchet and Clank games.

My favorite Duckworth episode is the full episode Dante's inferno parody of the 'circles of Hell' of Mcduck manor that's just the shenanigans the cast get into
Duckworth is great. The episode when he catches the ghostly flu and ends up accidentally possessing the triplets, Donald, and Webby is one of my favourites.
Its a mystery, of course the butler did it.
Actually, Duckworth was not brought back by the Beagle Boy but by Magicka, who is secretly controlling him, trying to ruin the decor of the house and make it look unseemly to break Scrooge's spirit.
Since you like this series so much I definitely recommend Rise Of The TMNT. It shares two of the voice actors (Ben Schwartz and Josh Brener) and has the same general vibe. You'd have to get a proper chronological list of the episodes because Amazon as well as whatever the heck Google is doing when you look it up are both wrong. The wiki seems to have the correct order. Also, don't worry if this would be your first dive into TMNT in general, it was mine as well and I still greatly enjoyed it. I NEED more people to watch this masterpiece of a show so I am screaming about it into the void whenever I can lol.
I really like the upcoming episode where Ma Beagle and Ms. Beakley (who is secretly the boys' long lost aunt) have a Mother-Off contest. Webby is #1 cheerleader 😊

Old Fogey time: in the old show and comics Duckworth was the very much alive butler, he would make little snide remarks and was very much based on the same trope as Alfred from Batman. Mrs Beakley was a nanny that Scrooge hired in like episode 1 or 2 of the original show to keep an eye on the boys, and Webby was her granddaughter who came along as a package deal...both of them often treated as baggage for the plot. Mrs Beakly did very little in the original show to the point that I have a hard time remembering too many episodes outside the first arc where she tagged along where she did much other than shout, "Oh nnooo!" and run away. So when this show started we kind of figured they had fused Beakly and Duckworth into one character and added the spy stuff to help toughen her up. It was a surprise and a treat to see Duckworth come back as a demonic ghost entity.
They do a Scooby Doo mystery and didn't invite Velma? Jinkies!
Well, obviously. With her experience, the mystery would be wrapped up in a few minutes.
i would love to see you react to rise of the teenage mutin ninja turtles. I think you would really like it, it's also a comedy with themes of the importance of family- it has a different plot to ducktails but they give off similar vibes.
In the reboot, there is a suspition regarding how Duckworth died, but it only be revealed in the reboot's final episode in season 3.

but dont worry its totally just an easter egg and definitely not a deep seated emotional issue for huey to work though in a later episode.

Fake spoiler: This is actually the 2975th episode chronology. The original episode that would go in it’s place was scrapped because It had spoilers for “Avengers: endgame” in it. But bybscrapping that episode and replacing it with this episode it gave Huey sentience, he knows he’s in a show and has an existential crisis about it every time he’s offscreen.
You may notice it in the intro but Duckworth has been there since the beginning.
