  • This Proline Electric Radiant Heat Solutions designed system was installed in Manchester NH for a couple that wants nothing to do with shoveling snow off their walkway ever again. The existing poured concrete walk was removed and Genest Hollandstone pavers were installed in a Herringbone pattern.The system was designed to allow for future expansion to the driveway. Our new Weber CR3 and VPR700 roller compactors were also used on this job.

    Excellent video! Thank you. Could you install insulation under the matt if the application is a driveway? I can see it on concrete but I"m not sure how the insulation would perform under pavers. Your thoughts?

    Very cool to see the time lapse. I wish there was a way to slow it down at points to see in more detail the item you were working on or to compare a change (just me and time lapse vids!). The busy music worked out for it well, especially the first part. Nice creative job with the video and the project, Tom. Mad skillz. Good to see you introduced the new compactors and they "paved" their way to a good finish. :-D

    Why no thermal break under the coils? Half the energy that goes into heating is just going to heat the ground under the coils, rather than the snow on top.

  • @melikesleepy

    How was the heating system wired into the house? Does it automatically turn on with a sensor or is it wired directly into the fuse box and needs to be switched on?

    I really enjoy the time lapse videos you make the most. is there any concern for cars driving on the walkway? I can't tell how thick the base is but it doesn't look thick enough to support the weight of someone accidentally driving on it. the finished product looks great!

    • @DirtNinja
      @DirtNinja  8 лет назад +2

      They will park on it. There is enough gravel and there was good gravel under the concrete that we left and just compacted so it should be all good! Thanks for watching!

      @@DirtNinja I believe there will be 4 sinking spots due to the weight of car, if the owner keep parking in the same spot.

    We have allways installed the the electric mat between sand. gravel, little sand, mat, more sand to make the base for pavers.

    • @Joshua79C
      @Joshua79C 6 лет назад

      Know of one manufacturer, recommends placing the mat between the paver and sand so if something stop working you just pull up the pavers to fix.

    Its a good idea for pavers and bricks but doing concrete and having something break underneath would be a nightmare

    • @Joshua79C
      @Joshua79C 6 лет назад

      Good there is a few makers of mats you can lay, plug and play, leave them for season then after just clean and put away, just as cheap and if one mat becomes inoperable its very easy to replace.

    Any reason you didn't put a thermal barrier underneath?

    • @DirtNinja
      @DirtNinja  8 лет назад

      Not needed. Each system is designed by the manufacturer of the heating system. We send them dimensions and conditions and and they send a design back.

      "thermal break" ie insulation under the heating coils. Was just what I was thinking it needed. But it's easier said than done. Aerated concrete would have been a nice option.

  • @knightd12

    How much does something like this cost?

    • @Joshua79C
      @Joshua79C 6 лет назад

      Depends on system make and width of mat to size of job, then there is the thermo sensors and controller. Typically much as an ac unit but lower operating costs since its seasonal and on only when snowing. Not that I have one, just based on what researching I have done.

    • @raaah

      I said the same thing! but if they are elderly then it is in there best interest to have the walkway free of ice and snow.
      obviously a regular person would have done the driveway as well.
