This is true, I will never complain about a bit of rain in my life again. These people are the best, even though I haven't seen the completed project I'm sure it has come off excellent..
I think the large barn restore where they had to put 24 tons of title on the roof and it was one person taking 12 title at a time up to the roof. My hat is off to people of level of iron will.
Now, these are truly hardy determined people one just has to admire. Don't think I've ever seen such hard working people. No throwing money at builders to do the work then take all the admiration for it at the end, just plain hard working folk, I love them, my absolute respect to both of them.
@@risasb So have I. On major projects... I bought and restored historic homes in Germany, France, the UK and here in the States as I lived around the world, but I was much younger then. Now I can scarcely make it up and down the back stairs in and out of my basement!
Out of all of these home restoration videos, this is my favourite. Northumberland is beautiful, it's people the most warm-hearted, kind and down to earth on this planet. I left the Valleys to join the Army nigh on thirty years ago, got married to a German lass and settled in northern Germany. After watching this, I'm not afraid to admit I shed a tear or five. My wife was sat watching this with me when I pressed pause, slowly turned to her and said "I need to go home". The song by Mark Knopfler "fare thee well Northumberland" says it all. The thing is: I don't need to go home - I have to, this is were I belong. Thankyou for posting this and please excuse my emotional outbreak.

This couple actually look younger toward the end of the project. Pair of workhorses they are. When the sons showed up I was like, "Where have they been all this time, Granny slogging it out"!
I was thinking the same thing! Part of it is that Marilyn's perm has grown out, but all that hard physical labor definitely improves both fitness and your appearance. They probably lost several pounds of weight, each. They are an exemplary couple. They work hard, and have amazing results to show for it!
Same here: my husband and I restored a Medioeval house in the Maritime Alps.... we did all we could ourselves, but not the roof! This is a gigantic job... most people we knew thought we were insane... all my respect to this wonderful, loving couple!
reminds me of our own old farmhouse renovation. my wife and marilyn must be related! my own wife lived with me in a single room over the building site with toilet in the great outdoors all swedish winter long, fozen waaterpipes and tough work every day! gosh just how lucky can a man be to have a woman like this! i bet she iss also "low maintenance" and doesn't need prada shoes and supid jewellery ;-) hats down in front of the bravest toughest cleverest most faithful and loyal wifes and partners!!! cheers for sharing! made me further appreciate her and realise bhow lucky am!
They seemed to become more affectionate at each milestone of the build. I love that the whole process brought them closer, rather than tear them apart as I've seen on other daunting projects.

Looks EXACTLY like our place, here in Normandy, when we bought it 22 years ago; no interior plumbing, electricity...We began in July. 3 weeks later wife was pregnant, and still was my "builder's laborer" for 6 months of her pregnancy, lol...cheers...rr Normandy, France

Beautifully presented by a talented young man. While they were restoring I was going back in time visualizing how it was being built centuries past. If I was in charge of private and public works I would order to have all building of previous times restored so as not to lose the history of the country. What a pipe dream. I love to watch videos where bands of young people undertake these projects in the various country they live.
I saw this episode years ago and I've watched it several times. Terry and Marilyn are a true inspiration to me and helped me believe that I too could do jobs that seem impossible. I'd love to know where they are at now.

My brother and I would have contests with butter knives to see who could finish chipping a floor tile first. Stepping on nails, the dust, hard work and yet we all were so happy living a dream.
I should reevaluate my life instead of sitting here on my couch eating little chocolates as I watch this couple on the show. They are indeed two people that deserve all respect for their attitude, love for each other, and hard work. Something I think is missing from this generation and even the last.

Excellent workmanship and dedication. Being somewhat older, a job like this can easily result in injuries, etc so I pray neither had problems. But the old ground-floor dung would be fabulous in the garden! And you MUST love their ability to laugh at the small setbacks like the sand. I loved her "water feature" remark! And I can relate to getting sons to help: a man spends many years waiting for them to get old enough to help with stuff, but then you can't find them!
I feel just short on words to describe them in any possible way, way beyond commoners. The only aspect I feel missing in the video is the history of this farmhouse since it is a listed property. Even so, the video is sufficient to lift our souls up.

I wear out watching; have done this sort of thing but on about fifth of the scale.
