Now, these are truly hardy determined people one just has to admire. Don't think I've ever seen such hard working people. No throwing money at builders to do the work then take all the admiration for it at the end, just plain hard working folk, I love them, my absolute respect to both of them.

Out of all of these home restoration videos, this is my favourite. Northumberland is beautiful, it's people the most warm-hearted, kind and down to earth on this planet.
I left the Valleys to join the Army nigh on thirty years ago, got married to a German lass and settled in northern Germany. After watching this, I'm not afraid to admit I shed a tear or five. My wife was sat watching this with me when I pressed pause, slowly turned to her and said "I need to go home".
The song by Mark Knopfler "fare thee well Northumberland" says it all. The thing is: I don't need to go home - I have to, this is were I belong.
Thankyou for posting this and please excuse my emotional outbreak.

Excellent workmanship and dedication. Being somewhat older, a job like this can easily result in injuries, etc so I pray neither had problems. But the old ground-floor dung would be fabulous in the garden! And you MUST love their ability to laugh at the small setbacks like the sand. I loved her "water feature" remark! And I can relate to getting sons to help: a man spends many years waiting for them to get old enough to help with stuff, but then you can't find them!

The cattle would help keep the building warm, too.

I feel just short on words to describe them in any possible way, way beyond commoners. The only aspect I feel missing in the video is the history of this farmhouse since it is a listed property. Even so, the video is sufficient to lift our souls up.

Nope. 30 mins into the video; our rebuild was a cake walk compared to this. Incredible courage. Hats off to this couple for their courage....rr

She must be the most hardy, mentally and physically strong woman I ever saw, and also a lot of respect for her husband, both having office jobs and thus not having to work hard physically in their previous life now prove to be the though but internally warm kind of people this part of England is known for.

George, I wish I had your job!!! LoL. A great example of determination and true grit. Being middle-aged has it's advantages. Go Marylin, feel the urge hands up to you both! Great Harry- making that dream.
A historical old building is alot harder to work with- the result is so worth it. I am glad we can have a contractor do our roof!!
