Alta Preseason Skiing: Main Chute, Little Chute, High Boy

This fall in Utah, the first snow fell on October 8 and continuous storms brought over 5 feet of snow to the upper reaches of Little Cottonwood Canyon by the end of the month. It was the snowiest October in the past decade by a wide margin. November came in warm and dry, melting snow off all but the highest North-facing terrain. Fortunately, Alta is open to uphill travel for most of the fall and has plenty of high, shady terrain where the snow stuck around. I got into the routine of skinning up Baldy after work, watching the sun set over the high peaks of the Wasatch until the lights of Salt Lake City came out, and then skiing back down Main Chute. This video shows some of the beautiful sunsets and sunrises that I saw at Alta and some of my favorite runs: Main Chute, Little Chute, and High Boy. Hope you enjoy!
