I am about Bob's age and spend 6-8 months of the year boondock camping and hiking in the Rocky Mountains, mainly off trail by myself. Up until last year I did the same thing Bob did by letting someone know where I was, where I intended to go and what time I thought I would be back. Most places I hike have no cell service. I don't know how many times I had for one reason or another veered off my proposed trek. Last year I finally bought a Garmin In Reach and boy what a difference that makes. It sends out my location every ten minutes so even in the event that I were incapacitated, it would still continue to send my coordinates or in a worse case situation a Grizzly Bear ate me and the Garmin, they would at least be able to narrow a search for my bones or bear poop with my Garmin from the last ten minute broadcast. If you are hiking alone get one of these devices..if not for you than for your loved ones and the rescuers that will be coming to look for you.
Yeah now a days there's no reason not to take one, a gps. As someone else commented, if not for yourself then for your loved ones! I don't know how they work & the hiker might not need one to find their way around but God forbid the worst does happen??! Surely you'd want your loved ones to have answers & funeral so they can get some sort of closure & they can move on to mourn you.. . Properly! I believe the 'not knowing' would be the worst!? I'm sure I'd feel 'stuck' somehow, I'd be forever having thoughts of 'what could of happened?' & 'Where are they?' I always wish people who go missing are found soon💗🕊

Thank you for covering this story. Bob Gregory is my coworker, he’s one of the kindest, selfless and most sincere person I’ve ever met. Hopefully they find him so his family can have some closure. Praying for him and his family.
Thank you for your comment, I hope and pray they will find your friend🙏 I don't know Bob but from the interviews his family gave and people like yourself that know him, he seems like such an amazing guy! He also seems very strong and smart, so I'm hoping he was able to find or make a shelter and is now trying to make his way out. I hope you get to see your friend, colleague again soon🙏
Thanks so much for covering this story with the other still missing hiker in this area. As slightly better news, there was a dog that was also missing around the same time as this gentleman and Mr. Sands, and the dog eventually found her way to a house and the residents recognized the dog and called the owners. No clue how the dog survived that long, but she made it.
Happy the dog survived. The dog has better senses for finding its way to civilization than mankind. Likely the dog stuck by his or her owner’s side until he passed. That’s why it wasn’t found earlier.
U saw the comments and did something about it. I saw that a comment said he was not getting any attention about his case, and u changed that. U truly have a heart of gold x
I did see this yesterday on Pharoas yt channel, he was on 2nd day searching and nobody except 1 or 2 random hikers were searching, I looked it up because one of your listeners commented on Bob being missing also. Thank you Bryan I’m glad you’re there to help spread awareness.
Bob was found deceased on February 19, 2023, 300 feet below the summit of mount islip. May his family and friends find comfort as they mourn their loss. Rest in peace, Bob.
Thanks for the shout out about the Montrose Search & Rescue. I lived in Montrose in the 1990's and didn't know about this organization. Sept 2022 was their 75th anniversary! Great video and info. I'm a novice hiker and always appreciate your knowledge and safety info. Keep up this important work! You are appreciated.
Brian, you truly are wonderful for the people missing and for those missing their person, as well as us at home wishing for their bests. Thanks for bringing light to all of the most recent cases that are available and know that you are truly appreciated by many out here. Thanks for doing what you do. PS: Glad to hear that you're getting and sounding more like your pre-head injury/accident self. Was really wondering where you went and when finding out you had been hospitalized, was very worried. Here's to hoping no more of that is in your future
When someone goes hiking in winter at high elevations, they are putting lots of lives in danger, not just their own, but those who must search for them...Very sad ....
Yes..that applies also for cave divers..It will be not the first time when a rescue or police diver will perish trying to recover or rescue a missing diver.
@@archie15900 Well, go hiking in the winter in high evavations then.. i'm just stating the obvious, trying to rationalize dangerous behavior with aircraft statistics is silly..Most people fly on commercial jets, that almost never crash, and when they do, there isn't much searching for survivors..Sure, in Alaska flying is dangerous..I gave up flying on small planes long ago..But, that is a straw man argument and apples and oranges..
@@archie15900 i understand what you’re saying but I live in the Olympics and though they aren’t near a 14,000 plus elevation they can be treacherous to the inexperienced hikers, anytime people go into the wilderness or even fly over it, stuff can happen, it only takes a second.
@@archie15900 Really? "We're not talking about climbing K2 here"? Those mountains at this point in time are extremely dangerous. Just a couple of years ago an SAR volunteer died in those mountains looking for a hiker. Elevation doesn't necessarily determine risk levels. As someone familiar with SAR you should know that.
Thanks Bryan for letting us know what these ppl or hikers going to places that's dangerous especially in winter inclement weather ..I don't understand why these ppl do these things and get lost or disappear or have their body found by rescuers or anyone who passes by ...it's very sad 😥
It will be a miracle if Julian Sands will be found alive by now. He has been missed since January 13th..Unbelievable that even experienced hikers can get lost and die because they are unable to find their way back to a trail
If you notice 99% of these cases are experienced hikers. And that is because they overestimate their abilities and underestimate any risk and danger. An inexperienced person will be cautious and will not wander far from safety.
Like always Brian awesome job on the video. I can tell 10-fold how much you care for each and every hiker that has gone missing. Bringing awareness is so important. Thank you Brian for all that you do!!!
I was listening to this story of Bob Gregory. As usual, you have presented this in such a way as to engage those watching to fully engage and capture our desire to pray for these missing hikers to be found and found safely. As you know full well, that is not end result in most cases. I do so appreciate being able to feel that you are giving us factual information and give as much information as there is to give. I live far away in KY, but it doesn't keep me from caring about these adventurers. There are so many mysteries in life and these are sometimes so baffling. I appreciate your compassion for the families and friends of these hikers who have gone missing and have most times met their demise on trails. Thank you for CARING and sharing. AND if you have read all the way to the end, I saw that you had one coin left. If you haven't already found a good home for it, I can assure you I will treasure it and appreciate it, keeping it safe. God bless you in all you do. As I said on another comment, I have watched you for several years, as I'm recovering from a December total knee replacement, my 5th surgery in less that 4 calendar years. Recovering allows me to have a lot of time to view TV and RUclipsrs. Found you and have watched almost all of your videos. Kudos on the fabulous job you do. Okay, I'll let you go for now. I type like I talk, very loquacious. I almost always stick with the video to the end! I'm sorry about you being locked out of your youtube account and your vehicle trouble. Bryan: you are doing a great job bringing attention to these missing people. No matter who they are I know you do not discriminate but you give 💯 to spreading awareness and helping to bring them back home. Thank you for your hard work. You are awesome!
I know! I've only ever seen something slightly like that at ski areas where snow machines are, however, this was all mother nature! I read that at times the winds above 7 thousand feet were gusting between 65 and 85 mph at times! Just unreal! Thank you for watching and your comment 🙏
I know that other people who are experienced hikers and have gotten lost have said they were disoriented because the scenery had changed due to fires or storms. The area did not look familiar. I hope the find both missing hikers. When I lived in LA, I remember a teenager had walked out about 15 years ago. He had been missing for weeks and was presumed dead.
Thanks for the video. I know this area very well. I have a custom electric high torque quad that I use to move around the steep terrain. I had been looking for details on his Bob's last location. My plan is get to Deer Flats Group Campground and use a dji drone to record video of the mountain side. Then view it in a high resolution screen later. That would be the most efficient way to search the mountain. The Group Campground sits above Deer Flats campground and it's closed. There is a road that leads up there.

Did he have a Personal Locator Beacon? Someone with his experience would have one, you would think. His family should know that. If he had one and hasn't activated it, that's a very bad sign.
I think they need to stop people hiking up too high there at the moment. There is too much snow and ice up in those mountains to make it safe and you don't want to be putting the lives of search and rescue workers at more risk either. Maybe the one thing to come out of all of this is that it addresses safety issues in that National Park and raises awareness of personal safety for hikers.
Why why why doesn't everyone carry an EMERGENCY LOCATER TRANSMITTER. It does not make any sense not to carry one when you are alone. When my wife and I hike we both have one. For $300 to $500 it is a MUST MUST MUST
Maybe not everyone viewing is aware but this month has been one of those once/decade kind of rainfall years in CA. Yes I said this MONTH tops most years of a decade. So it's an opportunity for extraordinary views with a risk of absolutely extraordinary difficulties if something goes wrong. The conditions are not anywhere near 'normal' for hikers. It is quite extreme for CA.
You do really awesome videos and have a genuinely good heart we all can tell the way you think of the family's and just all involved in these horrible situation. So God bless stay safe and you should probably prepare yourself for a substantial increase of subscribers because it's coming your way and fast so keep doing what you been doing and it can't be anything but a huge success just keep on trying to help that's what will always mean the most and is never forgotten.
Please please cover the hot shot who went missing in Big bear, California . 2 years ago his name was Carlos! I always try to bring awareness to his story. The only thing that was ever found was his truck
@@sdriza yes!! I live about 2 hours from where he went missing. It’s so sad. He has family members who are part of the big bear Facebook group and his niece would always post about him. So sad
You know I hate to be an AH but if a hiker doesn’t bother to take safety precautions it’s on him or her. Every year in Southern California people go missing and if they only took simple precautions like GPS a sat phone a bright yellow or orange jacket maybe flares they could’ve lived to hike another day. California spends millions of dollars and search and rescue personnel risk their lives and sometimes die looking for people who did very little to save themselves. I think it’s time to pass a law that prevents people from hiking unless they have the proper equipment to be located out in case of injury or becoming lost, it’s not that difficult to be prepared. I think I heard that each medi vac helicopter rescue costs north of $20,000 and I can’t imagine how much it costs to start a search. Park rangers law enforcement helicopters and search and rescue teams not to mention the risk and wear and tear on volunteers. With the money we’d save we enact law charge fees have people do like pilot who file flight plans. I’m not insensitive to the lost hikers but there has to be some accountability for those who choose to set out to climb up mountains in winter. I think people joke about the “Darwin award” If you choose to drive a hundred miles per hour on the freeway and you get killed that’s on you if you set out to go deep sea fishing and you don’t tell anybody it’s on you. RIP
Dear God maker of heaven and earth. Today we cry out to You on behalf of Bob who is missing. We, their family and friends, anxiously and patiently ask for his safe return and protection for those rescuers involved in his whereabouts.

I will never hike in snow. Ever. You work ten times harder just taking a walk in snow. I grew up in treacherous winters in Northern Wisconsin. Negative temperatures, heavy snow and blizzards can be brutal. I honestly don't get the hype myself. Maybe because I was raised in it. If people can be safe about it that's fine but when you have to continuously rescue people in certain areas. Authorities then have to close that section. Playing in heavy snow is not the same thing as living in it.
-> Exactly my thoughts!! Have hiked that mountain before, But, Never thought about it until this Winter season, & hearing about 14 Rescues, 2 Dead, & the 3 Missing.. I hope he's holed up somewhere , and gets found....I can't stress enough ,.. personal locater beacons,...if you hike mountain bike, or drive into the sparse areas....they will save your life, or a loved ones...no better gift for the outdoors person than a PLB!
Why do people go in winter ❄️ ❄️ 🥶 comping hiking specialy old age 🤨 It doesn't matter how much experience they have still is not safe in mountains or bushes
He could of stepped through deep snow over a trail and went down on a snow chute causing him to be trapped several feet under snow. Same situation as an avalanche - he should of taken a tracker. I’ve hiked the trails in this area for years. Sadly, I can see he may be feet under snow. I was on Mt San Gorgonio in the early 90’s first unexpected snow in November we camped at Vivian creek. As we hiked up passing the crashed plane no snow but got closer to the summit, we ran into snow losing the trail. Snow was at my knees and saw it was a steep incline - risky we could be off trail only standing on snow so we turned around to make this another day.
Seems like he was very experienced, very thorough and very safety cautious. But as one professional mountain climber and moutain hiker put it- sometimes even THAT is not enough. Sometimes between you and nature, nature will win. He highly recommended 2 things- 1) check the weather to figure out what you could run into at higher elevations. When in doubt, don't be afraid to revisit the location some other time, it aint going nowhere. So DO NOT allow an over inflated view of your skills overtake your reasonable judgement. 2) Always take a Personal Locator Beacon or Satellite Phone. Should you become stranded or get lost, these devices will greatly increase your chances of being found.
Anyone hiking ALONE in these conditions, no matter how experienced,... is unwise. And if they are not brining with them a satellite PLB (personal locator beacon,) that is set up to make use of the advanced service that can TRACK the hiker's steps, (regardless if the hiker is able to hit the SOS button,) and transmit that data to a friend or loved one.... that person, again, is being very unwise. Had he taken this action, of bringing a tracking PLB.... then SAR would have a more specific area to know to go look for him in.
Climbed Islip this past winter in February and April April was particularly treacherous with snow and ice falling from trees We saw the poster about Bob’s disappearance and did our best to keep an eye out for any signs but couldn’t find any. Heard he was found just 12 days after we went out there in February May he rest in peace
I’ve done January-February trekking in the San Gabriel’s. Snow shoes. Crampons (or Yak Trax at minimum) Rope. Ice axe, bivy gear & most importantly: friends. Trekking into the San Gabriel’s alone this time of year is quite honestly insane. I’ve fallen in tree wells 6 feet deep & had a few fall arrests onto my axe at Gergonio too. Going up there 4 season , solo, just isn’t wise. Folks? It’s just not wise.
I have barely no season 4 experience especially in western mountains. I definitely recommend if anyone does go out they bring a sat com device and go with other people and stick together! So many people split up which doesn't end good. Thank you for your comment and experience. Sounds like you've had some close calls, glad you made it out safe! Thank you for watching🙏

Smart move! An inReach, Spot or similar gadget is a must.
its ideal common good sense and should be a legally required hiking prerequisite as state law

Maybe the one thing to come out of all of this is that it addresses safety issues in that National Park and raises awareness of personal safety for hikers.
Conditions were icy with a thin layer of snow at that time
Why do people go out in this kind of weather I don't get it. Now others are in danger looking for them. Watch the weather reports, just plain crazy.
Why why why doesn't everyone carry an EMERGENCY LOCATER TRANSMITTER. It does not make any sense not to carry one when you are alone. When my wife and I hike we both have one. For $300 to $500 it is a MUST MUST MUST
Agreed! And ESPECIALLY in the conditions these hikers have gone out in.
Look at the snow! Wow
Carlos Balthazar
@@sdriza yes!! I live about 2 hours from where he went missing. It’s so sad. He has family members who are part of the big bear Facebook group and his niece would always post about him. So sad
Just incredible…look at the snow…
RIP
Have you covered Aubrey Sacco? So sad and mysterious... Love these thanks for keeping up with them!
Dear God maker of heaven and earth. Today we cry out to You on behalf of Bob who is missing. We, their family and friends, anxiously and patiently ask for his safe return and protection for those rescuers involved in his whereabouts.
-> Agreed in Prayer.. B'Shem YAH-shua Ha-Mashiach Shel Nazarit, In LORD King Christ Jesus of Nazareth's Holy & Mighty Name, AMEN & AMEYN!! Divine Angelic Safeguarding, & Many Blessings, ALL!! 😻🖖🏼📖🙌🏼🙇🏻♀️🙏🏼🕊️👼🏻⛅❄️🏔️
Amen 🙏
REALLY sad situation. FOR family and SAR crews. MY guess.. poor guy MAY BE ‘buried’ in that snow, quite possibly OR probably at HIGHER elevation.
I live in the Sierra Nevadas in California and OMFGGGG the snowpack this year is OFF THE CHARTS Bro!!!!
Hey Bryan you got an email in the description but you have a different email in the “About” tab on your channel. Might want to update that.
while i feel sorry for mr gregory and his family, anybody should avoid attempting hiking in snow, especially in mountainous area.. it is always dangerous. pls don't go.
-> Thank you, Bryan, for Also covering Bob Gregory's disappearance!! I've been praying for All Missing & their families, including the 2 that died Recently in our local So. CA mountains.. We went hiking these areas before, Mt. Baldy, even Mt. Islip, & more recently, around there, back in the Fall, so I Quite Understand the terrain, let alone in ice & snow!! 😕 Divine Angelic Safeguarding, Providence, & Many Blessings, ALL!! 🖖🏼📖🙌🏼🙇🏻♀️🙏🏼🕊️👼🏻⛅ ❄️🏔️
Is mountain’s name, ‘Islip’, a hint of what to expect?
-> Exactly my thoughts!! Have hiked that mountain before, But, Never thought about it until this Winter season, & hearing about 14 Rescues, 2 Dead, & the 3 Missing.. Sure makes me wonder about what's in a name, like Shakespeare put it!! Divine Angelic Safeguarding, & Many Blessings, ALL!! 😻🖖🏼📖🙌🏼🙇🏻♀️🙏🏼🕊️👼🏻⛅❄️🏔️
I hope he's holed up somewhere , and gets found....I can't stress enough ,.. personal locater beacons,...if you hike mountain bike, or drive into the sparse areas....they will save your life, or a loved ones...no better gift for the outdoors person than a PLB!
What is going on there in California
Why do people go in winter ❄️ ❄️ 🥶 comping hiking specialy old age 🤨
It doesn't matter how much experience they have still is not safe in mountains or bushes
He could be "experienced" but he was not prudent: how in hell he'd go in winter time, by himself to climb a mountain?
Not very smart to leave his home to embark on such a dangerous journey.
R.I.P. to BOB GREGORY . HOW SAD INDEED . Thanks for the Video. From , U.K. (2023).
Over 90% of Search and Rescue attempts start and bad weather moves in. This theme runs through most of these stories. What’s the connection? 🤔🤔🤔. 👍
Perhaps just that winter and spring have more snow and rain in many areas. But🤷♂️thank you for watching and your feedback!
Why would anybody want to hike in such terrible conditions anyways...by accident or on purpose.
If he was so 'experienced,' why did he go by himself???? The 'experts' always say never go hiking 'ALONE!!!'
Agree, I always check the weather before hiking, tell a family member my location, never leave home without my inreach mini device.
I'll say it again I am so glad I don't like to hike!!!
Did they ever find him?
I am very sorry for Bob and his family. He made a big mistake not carrying an EMT and it will cost him his life I believe.
…an “EMT”? An Emergency Med. Tech?
@@m118lr think they meant emergency medical transmitter
-> Sat phone & a PLB, but most definitely a PLB, Personal Locator Beacon.. Divine Angelic Safeguarding, & Many Blessings, ALL!! 😻🖖🏼📖🙌🏼🙇🏻♀️🙏🏼🕊️👼🏻⛅❄️🏔️
Update. Found deceased.
The like button is not working for me. Is a sad story. Hope they find him.
The trail from windy gap to little jimmy spring in the snow is sooo dangerous! There’s a possibility if he wanted to get water he fell down a chute.
Climbed Islip this past winter in February and April
April was particularly treacherous with snow and ice falling from trees
We saw the poster about Bob’s disappearance and did our best to keep an eye out for any signs but couldn’t find any.
Heard he was found just 12 days after we went out there in February
May he rest in peace
He’s gone, doing what he loves … poetic
how can you search for a body in this kind of snow..
8000 feet is big enough ! And it doesn't look like the easiest to climb in the snow !
It’s been over a year. Do you know if they’ve found Bob yet? ❤
His body was found in February. Sad case.
I was just wondering if he had a GPS. Does anyone know ?
I just can't keep watching, who would go hiking by themselves in such treacherous conditions.
