Our family of 3 was hiking from Tamarack Flat to El Capitan on Labor Day weekend in 2015 & came across Matt's abandoned backpack off the trail W of El Capitan. That led to the discovery of Matt's body at the bottom of the rock cliff the next day. From the things we observed in & around the backpack, we have always regarded this as a suspicious death, possibly even involving foul play, especially with the other 2 hiker deaths around the same time. Don't know why the cops & park rangers have decided to hide the evidence unless they have something to hide. Doesn't make sense. We filled out a detailed report for the rangers & would feel better if they at least shared it with the public that pays their salaries.
The parks generate millions of dollars a year revenue and if people knew about all these disappearances and mysterious deaths were posted then the public may think twice. They don't want to advertise this since the parks feel like if people don't have gps, bear spray etc, then it's their own fault for not leaving the proper info
The police seem to really keep tight lipped if they think they've got a serial killer, they keep their cards close to their chest so the perpetrator doesn't know what evidence they've found, they are easier to catch if they don't get spooked cos then they repeat the same actions - and same mistakes. That makes the odds of catching them go up. Stay safe out there, my friend 🧡
As you point out, Bryan, the SECRECY surrounding these tragic incidents is baffling and inexplicable. So, bodies are found in areas which are frequented and well-traveled, and zero information is released by NPS regarding cause of death; that's TWO mysteries that serve to perpetuate the creepy lore about Yosemite.
Really baffling that 3 people could go missing in such a brief period of time and it not be all over MSM. So sad for these families. Well this is yosemite, if it were to be blown up anywhere it would be in Fresno ca. Fresno has plenty of news to report on every single day so, unfortunately this won’t be getting any msm coverage. This happens a LOTTTT in the parks, nothing new. There are many things on our planet that the average person doesn’t know anything about. I’ve personally seen things that the average person claims don’t exist. Humanity has only recently been brainwashed to forget all of these threats. And so much more. So many ancient secrets pulled away from us by those enforcing our society and the ones that came before them.
They were in the news in 2015 in that area of California. Sorry but you can't expect three missing persons cases weeks apart where the bodies were already located to be national news. Most news agencies are smart enough to know that people go missing in national parks all the time.
This is a very scary thing. Why the Park didn't want the public to know about these men and warn people is sad. If they had, maybe one or more of the men could have been saved
That is so bizarre . Could it be an employee of the Park service that took their lives? Why the secrecy. This seem very fishy and I can’t imagine not helping the families. 💜
Hello! I have an idea! Maybe in the park, there could be multiple county lines, , , So rhere would be multiple county's involved, , ,which may or may not help find out where the remains were found, , , (?) Thank you for doing what you do!
It’s not that all. There are extremely strange and bizarre things happening in and around our National Parks that the government and the federal agency that governs the Parks, the Department of Interior, know exactly what the cause is but yet, they continue to play coy and refuse to give out any and all information regarding à disappearance.
Brian, keep bring these mysterious disappearances to light. Sounds like these young men were murdered and dumped. Very odd. Please enter me for the Yosemite coin. Thanks
Growing up just down the hill and spending most summers in and around the park, LOTS of disappearances in the Sierras, mostly experienced solo hikers who get in over their heads. Yosemite grabs the headlines because its notoriety and number of visitors.
@@abefroman4953 cause they think it’s a damn truck commercial. I’ve seen a big truck roll off one of those curves during winter on the way up. Too many people driving like shit on small, tight, winding roads with sharp turns.
I've hiked the perimeter of the valley multiple times and basically raised my kids there. The northwest part of the valley is actually lightly traveled. There is no shuttle service and only hiking trails and a couple of service roads. Many climbers hike over from the tent camping. Grounds. We've walked that entire area and have only ran into one other person. Once you venture off the beaten path it would be easy to go unseen if something we're to happen. The valley is deceptive in that there are many areas where you could easily be missed.
Very sad that such a beautiful place could be so dangerous. The scenery you show in these videos is breathtakingly beautiful. I think there may be serial killers roaming these parks, waiting for an opportunity. These wilderness areas are so desolate, that killers know there’s little chance of them getting caught. Too many people just disappear into thin air, never to be seen or heard from again, and most are highly experienced hikers.
I believe serial killers may be possible. Yet, something more strange & sinister is going on!! Dogman, Big Foot, Wendigo, Skin Walkers, Mothman, Goatman, aliens, reptilian creatures, portals, etc. Ask yourself WHY these occurrences are not reported on everyday news channels? Why is the government & other related agencies so "hush-hush"? What is really going on? Why the cover up? I know I am NOT the only person who thinks this way! 😡
@@TheDonna1959 it is definitely not serial killers. It would be very obvious. If you have a functioning brain you can see there is something more going on. And the information on what lives out in the wilderness is available, people just don’t like to read physical books these days. Just as you’ve said, many entities and creatures roaming the world. Many layers to this realm.
@@juliamaravilla4708nothing inexplicable is going on. Millions of people visit this park every year. It's a location with steep granite and hundreds of miles of very remote trails that adventure seekers pursue. Men are more adventurous by nature. They got lost, succumbed to the elements or simply were victims of misadventure (falls, broken legs, etc.). When you look at the statistics, going missing is close to nil.
Beautiful images. Yes, Yosemite is the Motherlode of strange disappearances. Loved that you highlighted three lesser know cases. I especially find it interesting in the case of JanesMichael Mollet Jr., that “no real information was given as to manner of death.” I think If persons take the proper precautions- they should be safe(carry a personal locator beacon). My other favorite episode that you have covered was recently done for day hikers on Mt. Shasta. If I could recommend a person to do an episode on is Chance Englebert, who left a family function and walked home- seemingly disappearing into thin air. I would like to be considered for the drawing of the Angel coin 🪙. This one is quite unique. A lot of these stories are about 'solo hikers', which is a horrible idea. I am not an experienced hiker, but I went on the A.T. with a friend who was very experienced, and I lost him for roughly 30 minutes. That's when I understood how easy it is to get lost...
I love the research you do and I enjoy listening to your stories (for lack of a better word) and how kind you are to the deceased. Kind regards from Germany
If there was foul play or murder in the first case, that’s the only reason I could think they are not telling anyone anything. That being said, at the very least they should admit it was foul play. If he was right off a heavily traveled area it makes It see like some one hurt him. Also, never underestimate what a tourist area will do to keep people and their dollars flowing.
Yes. I think these cases (and many others) reflect a cover-up to keep tourists coming. The secrecy also provides cover for less-than-effective, even incompetent, policing/searching of the area.
Lookin’ good Bryan! Sadly, I have yet to visit Yosemite. Someday. I would like to offer a suggestion as a story to cover. Fauna Frey, she went missing near Grants Pass, OR. I grew up in Oregon with this family. It is actually a very sad story with an odd, open-ended, unsolved “ending.” A lot of people are praying for her father, John, daily. Anyhow, we always enjoy your mysteries. Keep up the great work!!
I hiked Yo so many times. I feel comfortable hiking and walking around during the day, but not at night. I always felt as if I was being watch when I was walking around at night. It gave me the creeps.
I love Yosemite. I went many years ago on a school trip. I'm glad that you mentioned the disappearance of Julian Sands recently. I am glad that you made some comments and an episode about it. Very sad when people go missing.
I graduated from high school in June 1970, and in early fall of that year one of my friends disappeared in Yosemite. He went hiking by himself, on a regularly traveled trail. His body was found the next spring, close to the main trail of the area. That is all the information that was divulged. Since that time I’ve noticed that the NPS is very reluctant to release any information on missing person cases in any of the National Parks. You can find cases like these three all over the country, with three very particular areas being the Appalachian Trail, Lake Powell, and Mt. Hood. My takeaway has always been that it is not wise to go hiking alone!
It seems most missing people are not found by the park people or search and rescue, most are found by hikers, makes one wonder how good they really search...
Hi Brian, I'd like to be entered in the coin give away. There was a case in Delphi, Indiana that yoy might find interesting. Two young girls were missing, later found deceased. Years went by. A man who had been questioned early in the investigation was found guilty just last year. Still a lot of public outcry about rails-to-trails citing that case. Thanks. Love your hard work. Sandi🙂
Thanks, Bryan, for this strange trio of stories that you’ve told with your usual compassion and meticulous research. I trust your information. I’m glad you present a variety of types of disappearances, but an emphasis on the ones that seem inexplicable is especially compelling. And yes, I’d like to be in the coin drawing! I hope you are continuing to heal. Blessings.
God bless you Bryan some of these missing hikers may not have close families and you are blessing to keep their memories alive and honor them as human beings! Thank you for all you do ❤
I live in the area. Mariposa coordinates a lot of business for Yosemite. Mariposa runs all trash service etc. since Yosemite does not these kinds of services in the park they often rely on Mariposa community for corner services etc.

My first thought was, get a FOIA request. But you answered that right away! What the heck is going on? I love Yosemite and have been many times, but not recently. This is all very strange.
I am a climber, so I go in climb a wall, sleep in Camp 4 for climbers. Yosemite is a small city, so it had all the problems of an urban California town..great target for shady people catching folks with thier guard down. Also Bears & Mtn.Lions 🐻🐱
Me and my sisters are leaving February 10 on a 2 1/2 week excursion starting on route 66 in Albuquerque from Indiana and venture into Yosemite Joshua tree the redwoods and Mount Shasta and then going down Pacific Coast Highway
I love how you do your videos on the lesser known cases involving the missing people who seem to have vanished under uncertain circumstances. I WANT TO BE ENTERED INTO THE BEAUTIFUL COIN GIVEAWAY PLEASE!
You asked for our thoughts so here's mine. If I had a relative that died while hiking or any other reason I wouldn't want all the details given to the public. I also wouldn't want the circumstances of their death being discussed on videos and written about as a missing 411 story. Privacy is an issue and families can have privacy without someone believing it's a cover up or a conspiracy. Accidents happen even to the experienced outdoors people
I'd stay out of the White wolf area and Yosemite creek areas ..that's where several people have gone missing mysteriously. In early 2000s me and a group of friends parked on Tioga road to hike to the upper Yosemite falls/ lost arrow spire / rim . We made it there but was dangerous, lost the trail, little to no water, and very hot. James millet may have gone off trail on his way to upper Yosemite falls from Tioga road..it makes sense that he parked on Tioga road however, (although he could of hiked from Yosemite valleyfloor) it's possible that he wanted to be away from the crowds and wanted more direct way to upper Yosemite falls. From what I remember not much of a trail up there and can see how he might of ended near north dome .
It’s very hot if you’re not from the area. If you’re from the area, yosemite is never hot. Even on its hottest days, due to elevation. I live an hour and a half from yosemite, we hit 113° F in the summer.
@@00_runner you clearly didn’t understand what I said. It hits 113 in the city. When it’s 113 in the city, it’s 85 or 90 in Yosemite. If you’re used to that heat, you CAN hike that just fine, with water. The trees provide enough shade to keep you cool. And the air is always very fresh in Yosemite.
Greetings.... from the Western North Carolina Mountains...! I'm really liking your very beautifully narrated stories....how great it is to bring attention to those missing people that have no one else. Your compassion is evident....and I have much gratitude to you for doing what you do. Sign me up for your cool coin giveaway....!
Thank you for giving @DavidPaulides credit. Most people won't and they'll act like they found the case and did Ll the research. #DavidPaulides spends a lot of time working and researching these cases. Plus you are so nice and caring to the victim and the families.
The only time I’ve ever been to Yosemite, (as I started the loop around, driving,) the first picnic site I rolled up on, literally had not a soul around…… and underneath a grill… was a fire. I literally caught it RIGHT in time, with two gallon jugs of water. There were no vehicles. Everyone/anyone had left. The fire started from rolled up foil (I assume contained grilled food, at first.) How crazy is that!
Staying at Yosemite during my childhood we encountered bears on all our trips. One bear even tried turning our car over by trying to rock it back and forth. Also the bears know how to open ice chests. And they walk the trails. You have to be very careful. Also my ex in-laws have a house in Mariposa mountains with a creak running thru it. It’s so beautiful. And bears would chase the boys on their bikes too. But there’s one story I never forget was when the boys were mountain bike riding they came across apemen or deformed men. They said they had no clothes on. Just rags and carried bows. They lived way back in the mountains. They started to chase the boys. The boys never went back. But mind you, there are lots of bears in Yosemite.
Hike with bear spray, large caliber hand gun (optional), fire starter, food, water, first aid kit and especially a satellite communication device along with a little common sense and you most likely will not die while hiking in back country.🐻
You never know if some hikers are killers themselves and might be found with a gun, knives, duct tape etc in their bag but came to a sticky end themselves. I don't suppose many actually found that way (although many over national parks) but you never know. Heartbreaking to hear of young ones dying.
I believe Yoaemite is gorgeous but hiking alone is just asking for trouble. I am a US Army female veteran from Bend, Oregon. I know how to hike and know how to take care of myself. That doesn't seem to matter relative to Missing 411.

Hey Bryan, when law enforcement is reluctant to release information , especially with more than one person involved, it always seems suspect. You may have already posted this, but I would really like to know which park has the most missing person cases still open. Just curious I guess. It is really good to have you posting regular videos. Missed you as I always look forward to your videos. Thanks for posting about Eric Smith. That is my part of the state and it is a case that has really upset a lot of people in this area. All accounts are that he is an excellent person and employee. I also would like to be considered for the recent give away. Thanks for your generosity and kind way in which you present the cases.
Considering the way that the authorities are keeping so quiet and the manner of and timing of finding the remains tells me they have a killer on the loose up there.
Wow, cool coin! My husband is really in to coins. I'd love to be entered in the giveaway. I find the Yosemite cases fascinating. Such a hotspot for missing persons! I'm sure part of it is due to the volume of visitors to the park, but still very strange the number of missing.
Those disappearances aren't really bizarre, the authorities made them bizarre. How can they deny a FOIA request for supposedly a 'normal' accident? I don't think that anything nefarious happended, but the way they act give strong 70s-serial-killer-investigation vibes. "Don't tell anyone what is going on. No warning to the public necessary."
With Mr Millett, the officials are likely being circumspect out of respect for his family. Being found deceased so quickly, he likely took his own life. Our not being privy to information isn't the same as family not being told. The families may have been told, which is why they haven't spoken out, complaining or upset.
James Millett checks almost all the boxes for someone who set out to do themselves in. They wanted to protect the family from the details going public.
Very strange, feels like something bad happened to these men and they don't want the public knowing what happened to them, so very sad!! I'd like to enter in the coin giveaway, Thanks, And good job telling us Bryan.
With Timothy, it probably means something unknown to us, happened. I'm not even sure the authorities know what the answer is sometimes. But this could really be something they dont want us to know about. Something odd
I don't know if it's the same down there, but anytime there's a suicide around here, details are usually withheld and no press is given to the incident.
This definitely isn't the reason in all of them. But my friend's dad died in Yosemite a few years ago and the family refused to have him named publicly or where he died to avoid conspiracy theories. He died of a heart attack
Sounds like there might be a serial killer stalking Yosemite. The authorities get really tight-lipped when they've got a serial killer on the loose, they dont want to let the offender know they are on to them, they dont want them to know what, if any, evidence they might have. They dont want to spook them, so they keep making the same mistakes, so they are far easier to catch.... stay safe out there, friends 🧡
Hi Bryan, I enjoy and learn from your videos. Thank you!! Were the FOIAs requested and requests rejected recently? With the passage of these many years, is it possible that they would release info today? Have you asked Yosemite NP personnel why they won't release info? Have you tried any other channels such as a congressman? Have you spoken to the friends or families? The only somewhat legitimate reason I can imagine for not releasing info might be if the families requested that they not disclose that they were suicides. Thank you for your efforts.
I don't understand when people get lost why don't they stay in place, start a huge fire and make a shelter, because the more they walk around the more difficult it will be for the rescue team to find them
I've gave alot of thought on all the people that go missing in our Parks.... I believe the government knows more about it than there going to admit....
@@margyb7469 not sure but anything is possible... There's no way 100 of hikers go missing never to be seen again without the government investigating... I bet they know.
Hi Bryan, as a Brit and indoors person 🙂, I was just interested to know if when applying for permits for hikes, particularly the PCT/AT, do hikers have to declare any health issues or provide evidence of a medical examination? Just curious... thanks for your research on your channel, you have such compassion whilst delivering these stories. Thank you!
Hi there, a couple of things, you don't need a permit to hike the AT, with the PCT permits, no you just have to pick your dates, and where you plan on starting and finishing your hike. If you do get a PCT Permit, you'll also have to get a California Camp Fire permit (needed for any fuel stoves too) it's very easy to get, just Google California camp fire permit.. it will come up. You have to watch a short video and take a 5 question quiz. as for the medical question, when though they don't ask, I'd highly recommend (especially if you're planning to hike 500 plus miles on any trail) you should definitely get a physical, see your dentist, and eye Dr if you haven't recently.. because the last thing you want is to have an issue when you're thousand of miles from your regular Dr's. Yes of course you can find local help in towns but it can often be a week or more before you can be seen an it can really drag down your hike. Just let your Dr know what you're planning and they will give you extra meds if you need any etc. I hope that helps🙏 Thank you for watching!
@@bawattsyl Thanks Bryan, I have zero plans to do any hiking, I would be a liability! I was just curious if any safety precautions are put in place to prevent those who would be putting themselves and others from just heading off into the Wilderness! Thanks for coming back to me! 🙏🏾

Brian, keep bring these mysterious disappearances to light. Sounds like these young men were murdered and dumped. Very odd. Please enter me for the Yosemite coin. Thanks
I enjoy your videos, and I especially appreciate how you tell the stories with respect and concern for the victims and their loved ones.
Dang Bryan! Pumping out content rapid fire. 🙌
Very mysterious. People need to know what's going on in Yosemite NP.
But will they ever......????

Wow, your on a roll 2023! So enjoy your videos, compassion and voice. The best to you for this year.
Growing up just down the hill and spending most summers in and around the park, LOTS of disappearances in the Sierras, mostly experienced solo hikers who get in over their heads. Yosemite grabs the headlines because its notoriety and number of visitors.
Me too, I'm from Oakhurst. The place can be dangerous, lots of rock slides
@@randomvintagefilm273 Lots of "They disappeared during a November drive to the mountains, only to be discovered during the spring thaw".
@@abefroman4953 cause they think it’s a damn truck commercial. I’ve seen a big truck roll off one of those curves during winter on the way up. Too many people driving like shit on small, tight, winding roads with sharp turns.
@@juliamaravilla4708 Or they drive up to the point where CalTrans stops plowing and get caught in an unexpected storm. Seen it dozens of times.
This is not a serial killer.
The ones that disappear into thin air.. more likely to be Thunderbirds are responsible !
Went there in June 1993 during a tour if US for our honeymoon from England - beautiful 👍
Beautiful images. Yes, Yosemite is the Motherlode of strange disappearances. Loved that you highlighted three lesser know cases. I especially find it interesting in the case of JanesMichael Mollet Jr., that “no real information was given as to manner of death.” I think
If persons take the proper precautions- they should be safe(carry a personal locator beacon).

Great RUclips. . I'm really enjoying them . I'm a truck driver and listen on headset..
If there was foul play or murder in the first case, that’s the only reason I could think they are not telling anyone anything. That being said, at the very least they should admit it was foul play. If he was right off a heavily traveled area it makes
It see like some one hurt him.
Love your thorough-ness and insightfulness.
I hiked Yo so many times. I feel comfortable hiking and walking around during the day, but not at night. I always felt as if I was being watch when I was walking around at night. It gave me the creeps.

Glad you’re back Bryan and sounding so GOOD! Will you be going back out to PCT? 🧚♀️ Stay Well!

Love the way you cover these stories
Your videos are so interesting. I have never heard of most of the cases you share.
It seems most missing people are not found by the park people or search and rescue, most are found by hikers, makes one wonder how good they really search...
So magnificent, such weird stuff..glad you get out ok, Bryan. Would love to see the park, so much photography is just stunning.

Back in the 80s we had to have reservations for camping in Yosemite. I'm sure it's like that now.
Thank you Bryan.
@@juliamaravilla4708 do you go hiking 10+ miles during 118 days ?
@@00_runner you clearly didn’t understand what I said. It hits 113 in the city. When it’s 113 in the city, it’s 85 or 90 in Yosemite. If you’re used to that heat, you CAN hike that just fine, with water. The trees provide enough shade to keep you cool. And the air is always very fresh in Yosemite.
THE ONLY COMMON denominator I can think of might be that there was a trail murderer and they didn't want that out and have to close the park.
Never - Never-- go alone !!!
Greetings.... from the Western North Carolina Mountains...! I'm really liking your very beautifully narrated stories....how great it is to bring attention to those missing people that have no one else. Your compassion is evident....and I have much gratitude to you for doing what you do.

The fire started from rolled up foil (I assume contained grilled food, at first.)
How crazy is that!

Considering the way that the authorities are keeping so quiet and the manner of and timing of finding the remains tells me they have a killer on the loose up there.

I find the Yosemite cases fascinating. Such a hotspot for missing persons! I'm sure part of it is due to the volume of visitors to the park, but still very strange the number of missing.
Thunderbirds tend to congregate where the food is and Yosemite is full of people ?

Those disappearances aren't really bizarre, the authorities made them bizarre. How can they deny a FOIA request for supposedly a 'normal' accident?
I don't think that anything nefarious happended, but the way they act give strong 70s-serial-killer-investigation vibes. "Don't tell anyone what is going on. No warning to the public necessary."
Possibility suicide. A lot of families may not want that info released.
@@Trish.Norman FOIA.
@@dustinrogers5384 not unless the death is still being investigated.
With Mr Millett, the officials are likely being circumspect out of respect for his family. Being found deceased so quickly, he likely took his own life. Our not being privy to information isn't the same as family not being told. The families may have been told, which is why they haven't spoken out, complaining or upset.
As one guy already commented never hike alone always have your friend Smith & Wesson or Sturm Ruger with you
James Millett checks almost all the boxes for someone who set out to do themselves in.
They wanted to protect the family from the details going public.
There is a trail to North Dome, the dome is 3-4 miles from Yosemite Falls. North Dome is lightly travelled. Perhaps he fell?
Yosemite is in Mariposa county , it's normal that the Mariposa County coroner would be the one to examine any remains.
Yosemite Nat'l Park is in Mariposa county, so that explains why the cases were handled by the Mariposa county coroner.
I don't understand when people get lost why don't they stay in place, start a huge fire and make a shelter, because the more they walk around the more difficult it will be for the rescue team to find them
The underground entities are allowed to take a certain amount of people. The 12:30 rangers are told not to investigate.
Maybe a constant crowd fund for second autopsies of missing/found hikers.
I've gave alot of thought on all the people that go missing in our Parks.... I believe the government knows more about it than there going to admit....
