Cicadas: uses 17 years to mature
Also cicadas: hey lets all scream at the girls the'll love it
right ! lol

Why do they fly directly at you ? Is it because they are gone for so long and they are so excited to see everyone?
IKR I hate these bugs I have PTSD every time I hear or see them. This is also a big reason why I hate summer
Idk I find them kinda cute
I have never heard of this bug but she’s making me interested in learning. I love her energy! You can tell she loves what she does
Yes she has what is called a 🧠 brain. She probably uses a good amount of it reading and researching and not on you tube all the time

Wait... in the UK?? Seriously?!? When?
It is a good thing that trees don't die from being withdrawn nutrients by a large number of cicadas for 17 years.
They actually feed the tree. Trees give life to all. I want to be buried inside or under a fruit tree when I die so people can eat the fruit that comes from my body
@@jbb729 Nutrient cycling, right? Burning bodies is a waste, isn't it?
If it is a suppling they will affect their growth, in nutshell, it is not good year planting a new tree.
Noisy bug?
To me city is lot noisier than cicadas. They sound adorable. Brings monsoon season alive. ❤️❤️❤️
lol I live in the city, and let me tell you the cicadas are much louder. I can't go outside without my ears bleeding 😂
Long exposure to 85 or higher decibels sound can cause hearing loss, the louder the sound the shorter time it will take. Cicadas make sound between 80-100 decibels. especially protect the younger children by reducing the exposure time.
Inside my house we can still hear it. There is no escape.
In the Caribbean, the sound of Cicadas screaming is generally considered to be the end of the Dry Season and the start of the Rainy Season.
When you hear that noise, you know rain is just around the corner..Quite interestingly though, this year it seems to coincide with the so-called "cicada invasion" in some parts of the USA
What do yours look like? Do you know brood #?...
Same for here in Florida, when they start buzzing expect it to start pouring.
When I hear that noise I get PTSD
@@theironrubberduck everyone has different triggers... that’s the problem with people doing fireworks all the time... be aware of neighbors having issues.

Your comment cracked me up!!! One thing I’ll say for the younger generation, they are soo funny and write great comments!! Love it!!😍😂
I read the same fungus produces psilocybin in them too. So they're actually tripping their little brains out &, hopefully, don't know it's happening!? 😳😬
@@bellbookcandle3051 oh to live the life of a cicada sex and drugs all day
Their noise is my most absolute favorite. Very calming and relaxing.
Riminds me of my youth growing up in Arkansas playing outside in the hot summer until dusk.
You and I have very different childhoods
The sound doesn't bother me either. I just don't like getting hit like a stray bullet lol
CALMING AND RELAXING?! F@ck me, do you work in an abattoir where they play heavy metal music the rest of the year?! 😳 JESUS WEPT.

Funny enough, I browsed to know more about cicadas a few days ago after learning about them for the very first time in a Korean movie I watched. Thanks BBC for adding to my knowledge.
Adorable lady and explanations. I'm not a fan of getting the pee from walking under them (back when I was a kid walking to school 😂).

They would never come out in China for obvious reasons.
OMG lol it took me a while to understand😂
Lol yeah
Yet people in the states are eating them too, soooooo…
These cicadas are everywhere....swarming around taking charge...lol😃
Well not for me and I'm glad that I don't see them cuz I have a crazy fear of insects.
These cicadas are doing the absolute most to find a mate right now 🔊🔊🔊🔊🔊🔊🔊🔊🔊🔊
Their entire life is "Crawl from ground, Fuck, Die..."
Very well explained. Thank you.
I was once visiting Australia and went to stay in a cabin over a weekend. Turned out it was their mating season, and it was the loudest noise I've heard caused by nature I'd say.
I guess you weren't their when Krakatoa went off....
What color were they?
Lol ..i saw this on an episode of Craig of the Creek and that thought it was bullsh*t ..these things really spend 17 years underground😂😂
You never know what you have until it’s gone. Reflecting now I miss them

"When the Cicadas Cry" lol
Wow. That same bug we have living with for millions of years and are heard EVERY year in the southern US.
I swear! I never knew what was making that sound but I heard it all the time as a child in NC.
That’s a bummer. We always had a blast catching them when we were kids.
N-O-P-E
I remember these in Costa Rica.
One time I was out side and it was just a regular sunny day and I felt sprinkles on me. I thought it was odd but since I was in another country, I thought maybe there rain can be like that or something lol
Later on I found out that nope it was the cicadas up there in the trees just peeing on you, I didn’t hear them in the day just at night, I guess it just depends where your at 🤷🏽♀️ but just a little fun fact 😅
they're loud AF that's all u need to know,, it sounds like electricity ,, very very loud electricity. i moved to the Midwest for 6 yrs an that's how i learned real quick, they are big, gentle an harmless !
never seen then here in the uk but they seem pretty cool! a little frightening looking tho lol
I GO TO UK! Because I hate cicadas. They are as bad as they seem, if not worse.
I like this.
No BBC. We are NOT eating them.
I wouldn’t eat them but I would take a flamethrower and-
We have them here in Jamaica every summer
Nice ❤️
It's like 𝓝𝓲𝓪𝓷𝓰𝓽𝓪𝓼𝓮𝓻 in meghalaya, india. We got every year, but not at the same place. It takes 4-5 years in the same place
Cicadas are a delicacy here in some parts of the US, they were also used as a food source by Native Americans. They are also a delicacy in some parts of Asia as well.
Tastes like chewing a shrimp and a peanut...
AHH!! Why did this pop up?! Whew this is triggering. I dealt with these 17 years ago while living in DC. One of the most disgusting and stressful time of my life. Clusters of them everywhere and the noise. *Skin crawling and itching*
They are deafening out there today.
It’s pretty unlucky imo that North America has cicadas which dont ruin their crops and actually contribute to the habitat meanwhile already poor sub saharan countries have to deal with locusts
New fear unlocked
We in Florida see cicadas every year! 😂
they look like aliens to me........ wait.. are we aliens too...? oh right
Gods amazing design!!
That’s sarcasm right? Please tell me that’s sarcasm.
@@theironrubberduck what do you mean?
I’m 18 but I stg I’ve heard that noise in the woods before just not as loud
She is 😍😍😍💚
But the cicadas are🤮🤮🤮👎
I went to an arboretum to experience cicadas in Dayton, Ohio yesterday. One odd thing I noticed is that while the sound is omnipresent, I could not attribute any of it to individual cicadas. I now believe the reason is the males are high up in shrubs and trees as well as moving around in places unseen, and that explains why there can be so much sound attributable to cicadas one doesn't see.
*Happy Scp-3004 Imago noises*
They are so cute
Highly Debatable
I ain’t even been alive 17 years and I be hearing these mf every summer what y’all talking bout 17 years maybe 2-3 not no damn 17😭
I actually love the sound of cicadas. Their strategy for life is quite brilliant.. overwhelm any predators by sheer numbers, and make it impossible to predict their re-emergence is crazy smart.
Nice
They live for 17 years? Did I hear that correctly?
I thought imago was classed as neutralized...
Why is it that where i live the cicadas only cone out near the end of summer?
Those cicadas scare the shit out of me....
If you love cicadas, come to southern Ohio, we get them every summer. Not sure what this 17-year nonsense is about.
It's different populations every year. If I try to draw an analogy it could be like some families having a baby in October and some having in June.
Real winners are the birds
The rich stay rich by spending like the poor and investing without stopping then the poor stay poor by spending like the rich yet not investing like the rich
Stocks are good, crypto is better
I wanted to trade crypto but got confused by the fluctuations in price
I heard his strategies are really good
My first Investment with Mr Thomas Richard got me profits of over $24,320 US dollars and ever since then he has Been delivering
He's obviously the best I invested 2000USD with him and in 9 days I made a profit of 9101USD
if cicadas emerge every 17 years, how do i see them every year then? is it a different population every year? i don’t get it.
Yes. It's a different populations every year. If I try to draw an analogy it could be like some families having a baby in October and some having in June.
But why does in my region in phils, thyre all throuout the year, i can hear them mostly during summer but , still all months of year i can see and hear them
Maybe a different species of cicada
I'm so sick of these damn things. They are all in front of my door making noises and they fly on you or in your face.
Yep. I get PTSD when I hear or see them. I’ve probably had the worst childhood out of everyone in these comments.
Why i felt weird that news media, u.s and u.k and youtubers sounds like too much of promoting?its been few months before cicada wakes up and news are telling story about preparing, what to expect, what to do, what can we do, recipe, and all the known facts are just repeating only.. as if cicada will run for president and all media is paying attention, anticipating, and its like a diffrent cicada now than previous years
4-6 weeks of my life, I can't get back!!!
I only think of the other C word when it comes to missing precious time
Cicadas in America act different from the ones in the Caribbean, the one in the Caribbean that I grow up with are green and blue and orange, these American ones are all the same. Like the American fruit section in the grocery store. Same damn fruits lol
Soon to die yet no sign of it in the cicada's cry.
As a kid,we would take the empty shell and stick them on our sisters, as many as we could sneak on.( Their legs stick really well to almost everything. Ah yes,fun times.😬
why only the sisters ?
Yet no sound of the cicada's which is what they are all about. Well done BBC.

We are all like these Tiny Insects Here and then Gone..In the blink of a eye.....
I see these things everyday why am I watching this I know what they sound like
Females in the animal kingdom also love vibration😏😏😏
Hol’ up
Ayyyyyyye 😏
Why do cicadas in Prescott, az come out every year?
Some come out here, in Indiana, every year too. Brood X is the ones that are on a 17 year cycle. Our yard is swarming with them right now, & they are *way* louder than the other ones!😵 I'm guessing that's because there are so many of them.
Those don't look very big. If you want to see big ones come to Albuquerque. They're about 3 inches long, and fat. They have huge wings, look like giant flys.
In New Zealand, cicadas are insane!
In uae you can't get afternoon nap with their screaming
They drive me insane to the point where I hate summer and going outside. Frick being anti social, this is way more scary
