As someone who grew up in southcentral Virginia, I am not looking forward to this. I remember not even being able to go outside because of those things.
I live in central IL and sometimes that cicada sound if it’s subtle in a sentimental way sort of reaffirms or reminds one of memories of summer. But.. when they’re loud they’re an annoying pain in the butt. If it gets bad time to close the windows and turn on the fan to drowned them out.

I love this emergence of cicadas happening at this time in US history. Most Americans cannot comprehend what 1 trillion of anything actually is! I wish the 7 trillion dollars of our taxes squandered last year could screech like a Cicada. Add on something like 30 trillion dollars in current debt too! Most Americans cannot explain how many millions does 1 billion dollars equal! We're doomed as a country. I feel so sorry for our unborn generations who inherit the economic tragedy we've dumped on them.
We have millions of black furry caterpillars every where in Texas. Im 63 and never in my life, have I seen this many. I cant walk anywhere without stepping on them. They Re crossing the roads in the millions. 😮

I find their call therapeutic to but only from a distance. I've a bunch very close to the house and the noise is deafening every dusk/early evening but I do live in Australia and we have double drummer cicadas which are louder than other varieties at 120 decibels... a chainsaw is around 106 decibels. One of my dogs likes to pounce on them in the back yard but that doesn't help with cicadas in the front yard or in neighbour's yards. It's approaching mid Autumn now, they will soon die off.
I'm curious on how you think that the home owners of those rentals are going to pay their mortgage? You kids are entirely clueless on how the world works. You should sue your educators.

What the story fails to mention is that the two cicadas species are at war with each other.
None of the predators will be able to keep up with all of the bugs. Like birds and bats can only eat so much.
