im in france a lot, and tell htem i love being BLACK AMERICAN because BLACK AMERICANS have one the best, most talented, most athletic, most joyous, and richest culture in the world. They agree lol. There is no debate, but im happy to go into it.
Regardless of race, people rarely talk about African-American culture of Science, tons of patented inventions (cell phone technology, automatic car transmission, refrigeration), Business (Tulsa Oklahoma Wall Street, Durham N..C). And of course, our tradition of Spirituality. and Agriculture. These sectors are the foundation of any culture.
Exactly. People are jealous. But I’ve mostly heard other Black people across the diaspora say this about African Americans, and sadly it’s just JEALOUSY and pure envy. We are the most economically privileged (as a whole) and visible of any African people. Our culture is the most exported (and sadly exploited and appropriated) around the world. For example, I’ve traveled a lot of places outside the US, and Black American music is played everywhere.
I have seen a lot of pushback from Africans as well, which is sad. They are also affected by the propaganda that racists created against us. This propaganda was designed so that no one sees our value and to place blame on us for being marginalized. We have lived under the thumb of our oppressors, which has been scientifically proven to rewire our brains. We are still learning the extent of what has been systematically done to us, so many Africans are definitely unaware. I just give grace, as they don’t understand.
My favorite part of being African American is our sense of comradery. When I studied abroad in Spain. If I saw another black person I would give a head nod to both greet and acknowledge them. It was an unspoken rule that we all did. It made me feel seen and gave me a familiar feeling.
I’ll add that another form of Black American culture is the sense of humor. Even the WAY we joke or how a punchline is delivered is very distinct to us and it’s definitely seen all over the internet now.
Yes, absolutely. I think my wording may have been confusing. The Harlem Renaissance was the name for the arts movement that occurred everywhere in the U.S. Not just Harlem despite the name.
I was just talking about this with my son today. Ppl actually live their lives immersed in our culture. So much so they claim it for themselves. While telling us we have no culture. It’s madness. We really need to start gatekeeping.
This was such a beautiful love letter to your people and all of it so true💕I’m not African American but I agree with you, ppl are disrespectful and disdainful of what your people have contributed to the world and it irks me too. I’m South African
Please share this video with a friend that will find it interesting. I want as many African Americans to watch it as possible - especially young people:) They should know just how amazing their culture is despite what outsiders claim. And I hope this will educate those who falsely believe we have no culture. African Americans, I hope you felt a deep sense of joy and pride as you watched this. Too often, we are unjustly targeted by hatred-fueled by racists and the centuries of damaging propaganda they've spread about us. The misguided claim that African Americans have no culture, couldn't be farther from the truth. Our culture is so powerful and pervasive that it shapes the lives of Black people not only in the United States, but across the Caribbean, the UK, and around the world-affecting the way they dress, speak, and inspiring social movements. To rise to be such an influential culture when laws were literally created to extinguish us is remarkable to say the least.
Black AA🇺🇲 culture is the cultural frontier of America💪🏿🤟🏿!!! Black culture is what defines "coolness" in America. Adding flavor. Spicing things up. Black culture is a intracultural experience of passion, fun, soul, and rhythm. From the music, mannerisms, fashion, language, comedy, food; black culture is a trendsetter that set trends globally🤟🏿💪🏿🔥🔥🔥
This is one of the best and realest videos on RUclips. Black American SWAGG is envied all over the world, because it cannot be emulated like some of our culture. Swag is spiritual and that is why it cannot be emulated.
I just shared this video with my daughter...Its very important to share our achievements with the next generation. Our history and culture are more downplayed and criticized than ever. Thank you so much for creating this content! ✊️
This was a beautiful example of our beautiful culture. I work with other melanated people groups and they definitely copy and hate us at the same time which is amazing. Great job Sister ❤🎉🎉🎉
Thank you. Look up TUT and Gullah. Also look up hoodoo and rootwork. Also look into our influence on pottery and hunting. Look up other migration other than the great migration to the north.
This video was amazing. No one has ever showcased so many elements of our culture unapologetically. I’m from Florida and our culture is usually not mentioned but bucking and popping in very low squats comes from us. The bands and how we as Afro Americans go from normal to very high cords is worth mentioning as well. Ppl use to be blown away when first hearing how our bands played. There’s so much culture not mentioned like the big wheels on cars, hand clap chants, and beat taps with pencils. Just know that the culture is rich! Thank you for showcasing us unapologetically.
I am a 74 year old black woman and I have to be honest because sometimes we get on each other’s nerves. In spite of that I love my black people. We are funny, very creative, we cook really good and love to listen to good music, dress up, dance and have a good time. We believe in God the Father and the Son Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. Had we had the many opportunities like other people we would have been able to take our talents and creativity and use those talents to make our lives a little bit easier. What I love about being a black person is that we are still here and we have survived through all of the challenges and struggles that have been thrown our way. I believe that our faith, hope and trust in God has made a way for us and seen us through. We have a culture and it is our own. We did not copy it we created our own. It is vibrant, beautiful and radiant. Thank you for this article, we need to stay encouraged and informed.
Other groups don't always get along and we shouldn't be expected to either. We're human. I agree there are so many beautiful things that I love about our culture. I couldn't see how brilliant it was as a kid because it was just normal everyday life but I always loved being Black. I can remember thanking God that I was born Black despite the intense hate we faced. Racism was always so silly to me. Thank you for your comment. Much love to you!
TBH I would rather have folks believe we don’t have culture. As Black Americans, we need to stop sharing and including outsiders into our culture, especially other Blacks. These people love appropriating and partaking in our culture without investing into our communities nor giving a damn about us. We need to wake up and stop seeking validation from others!
I agree that we don’t need anyone’s validation. However, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with other Black people partaking in our culture if they respect it and us. There’s a connectedness between us so I believe they naturally gravitate towards it. Like many African Americans love Jamaican food, reggae, the energy of the island, etc.
For the language, there were a couple you missed. In addition to AAVE we also have the following languages: We have Gullah / Sea Island Creole, Kouri Vini (Louisiana Territory Creole language) and Tutnese a secret language spoken by our ancestors
Great job. You asked for input. Here's mine. "Black Americans played a significant role in the origins of Memorial Day. Memorial Day, formally known as Decoration Day, was originally started by a group of African Americans." EDIT - after i sent the comment below, I re-listened and realized you did mention Ragtime. Sorry I missed it. How about Playing the Dozens, Hambone, and Double Dutch??? "Ragtime music originated within African American communities in the late 19th century, making it a musical genre primarily created by African Americans; composers like Scott Joplin, considered the "King of Ragtime," are key figures in the development of this style. Key points about ragtime and its African American origins: Roots in Black communities: Ragtime developed in African American communities, particularly in the midwestern United States, where Black musicians played in saloons and other venues." Improvisational style: The early form of ragtime was largely improvisational, played by itinerant African American musicians. Notable composers: Scott Joplin, one of the most famous ragtime composers, is recognized for popularizing the genre with pieces like "Maple Leaf Rag" and "The Entertainer". Impact on music history: Ragtime is considered a precursor to jazz and significantly influenced the development of American popular music."
Thank you so much. I needed an uplift today. My chin is up, and I am in the fight. I love my people. I thank God for this blessing of being a black woman.
This is just what my spirit needed! Thank you! ❤ This done so beautifully with so much love and honor to the African/Black American culture. As a Black American married to a Jamaican, he's constantly commenting on how emotionally expressive I am and says he that loves how I love him. And thats a reflection of my culture.
🍃🍃Thank you, for bringing forth this mini documentary, in essence, proving beyond any doubt that "We Are Our Culture." Full honor extended to you for a magnificent legendary production!
I'm so pleased I've found your channel! For some reason, the "thumbs up 👍🏽 " option isn't responding, but I'll return to give you the official "thumbs up 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Thank you for highlighting the importance of the cultural influence Native Americans contributed to the world. Thank you changing the misconception I had about African Americans &/Black Americans not having culture. I was born in Guyana, which is mainly influenced by indigenous people from the inner lands of Guyana, formerly a British and Dutch colonies. Guyana has major cultural influence from the Caribbean instead of the rest of South America because it’s the only English speaking country in South America. I appreciated this video because I can show my daughter what she was born into, which is a rich tapestry of prolific resilience of Black American Culture, which she and rest family are deeply entrenched. It’s because of Black Americans fight for Civil Right and affirmative action that allow myself and my whole family to even be here, which I appreciate more and more everyday. ❤
You are very talented and have a beautiful voice. I have a degree in history and learned a lot from you. Thank you so much for letting me know how little I knew and how far I have to go. I am in awe!
Black Americans when someone says you have no culture just ask them to describe their culture. You’ll see it doesn’t compare to yours as they sit in your country. America
We don’t have culture,
we ARE the culture 💅🏽
Let em know Chime.
So much makes up American culture but we are definitely at the forefront.
Most hated, but most imitated!
African American culture is America's greatest culture! We are Amazing people.
There are so many great cultures that I love but I am a little partial to my own tho.
AA culture is everywhere!!! Music. Food. Art. Literature. Poetry. How could anyone possibly say they didn’t???
Exactly!
We are the culture.
The number of musical genres we created is pretty astounding.
We are the originators...And there isn't a single medium that we don't influence...
Periodt
Black culture made america the greatest country on earth.🖤💯

Yesss, same.

I've lived in Africa for 11 years, African American culture is all over Africa.
It absolutely is
We Are THEE CULTURE ❤Everyone Else Came After Us!!!❤
We had to create our own culture!
The birth place of Jazz is Louisiana. New Orleans more specifically. Though very popular in places like Harlem and Chicago.
Yes, absolutely. I think my wording may have been confusing. The Harlem Renaissance was the name for the arts movement that occurred everywhere in the U.S. Not just Harlem despite the name.
🥲 Am I the only one whose eyes welled up with tears from pride while watching this!?!
As a DC native, thank you for mentioning go-go! Black Americans are the soul of the world ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
Girl, I don't listen to those people and WE know who those people are. They are SO jealous.
African American culture is LITERALLY worldwide!! #WeAreTHECulture ✌🏾
BEAUTIFUL!!! This made me soooo proud to be a Black American!❤️❤️❤️🥰🔥🔥🔥🔥
Yes! That was my mission because it seems as if we get torn down from all sides when we possess so much beauty.
I was just talking about this with my son today. Ppl actually live their lives immersed in our culture. So much so they claim it for themselves. While telling us we have no culture. It’s madness. We really need to start gatekeeping.
I wish we loved and admired ourselves and one another the way others do 🙏🏾❤️ “Say it LOUD, I’m Black and I’m PROUD!” ✊🏾 RIP James Brown ❤
My fave African American music creation is Punk Rock 🤘🏾

Who says African-Americans don't have culture? I have literally never heard that. The whole world follows us.
You’d be surprised. I’ve been seeing the rhetoric for years.
