Artifact of the Week 20241025 WP Savage Rifle 1

One of the most popular rooms during a Villa Philmonte Tour is the Trophy Room, in particular, checking out the Trapper’s Closet, where Waite Phillips would store all of the outdoor gear needed for the family and their guests to enjoy an outdoor adventure in the Philmont backcountry. On display in the Trapper’s Closet, as well as in other locations around the Villa, you will find several firearms. Those with a white arrowhead tag belonged to Waite Phillips. Those with a brown arrowhead tag are from the time when the Phillips family owned Philmont. And at least one with a golden tag is a period reproduction firearm. This week, we are going to learn more about one of the firearms owned by Waite Phillips, the Savage deluxe model 1899 lever action rifle.
