Drink every time you hear DP. I’m headed to the hospital.
Fck man, this is the new era of youtubers🔥 Honest talks, informative, helpful real world examples!👍🏻 Love it, keep up mate! These videos gives us small creators so much motivation. I saw you first in Dannys bts feature film youtube video and I’m glad that I found you here!
I appreciate that! Welcome
"Think of it as your last day on set" prove yourself. Spot on man.
I am an experienced DP here in New York City. My career has bounced all over the place, with fabulous ups and depressing downs, some amazing shoots all around the United States and worldwide. I can personally attest to what you have said about relationships and being able to work with people. That is the bottom line. Can people work with you and do they want to be with you. Or have breakfast, lunch and dinner with you on out-of-town shoots, etc. Can they really talk to you about work and even personal stuff, if that comes up. This is a person to person business. End of story.
Bro, this pumped me up so much! I am a combat filmmaker in the army, and we have this saying: Leaders Eat Last. I try to treat every job with this mindset. It’s not about me getting all the cool shots or being the hero. It’s all about the relationships, and being a kind, caring and genuine person first before everything. I will continue to grow in my leadership and skill set and someday, I’ll be a legit cinematographer, but more importantly, a kind person.❤
Hey man! Thanks for your service and I appreciate the comment!
Congratulations on 20k you deserve it! Keep making content, you got this.
Much love!
Very well made video. You are teaching me so much as an inspiring DP trying to get in to the FSU film school. When ever I watch a video they never mention the connections or mindset which is the most important part of film making. Everyday I do something related to filming learning, experience or meeting new people. After a couple months of choosing this route in life I have been able to get an internship, be an 2nd AC on a feature film, a PA for so many films and making connections with people already in the industry. My favorite person I have met so far was a man that was in a camera store with me and came up to ask if I shoot film. I said no I’m a cine specialist and he gave me stories he had while doing cine work with Spielberg and George Lucas. Now he works at a film school and in that 20 minute talk he taught me so much. I just love the film community and can’t wait to be a part of the industry.
Your attitude is amazing. I look forward to hiring people with this attitude on my sets, please keep it up. We should be humble at any age, any stage. I've hired many DP's and most have been great - but there are a couple that I remember very well. One of them was simply unkind, just the simplest way to put it. I remember that and it was the last time I hired him. In fact, he's reached out a couple of times saying "I miss working together" - but I simply remember how unkind he was on set. Then there's another DP that I just hired for the first time. He was kind, offered help above & beyond, was calm, reassuring, and like you said...waited until the very end with me. In the end, it was the Director (me) and the DP that waved everyone goodbye. Yes, he's talented - but I really remember his kindness and how professional he was. I appreciate that. I'll hire him again and I will refer his services. Keep up the great job, I look forward to seeing your growth.
As a non-native english speaker and an introvert, trying to change my personality (to be more of a people-person) has been very tough, but I think it is something I needed to do. Thanks for sharing your journey!
7:00 - Amen to this entire segment.
Man you are amazing, your journey is so motivating; everything you're doing and going to do is completely deserved!
You don’t know how on time this video is for me. Continue being amazing man 💯
Every once in a while you just hear that conversation that needs to be had. Thank You this was great and Congratulaions.
Absolutely loved this! So down to earth and humble. Keep it up, man!
Congratulations on gaining more subscribers, man you are truly a person full of wisdom and positive energy, you are like a teacher to me, I had learned a lot from you, you definitely deserve to get more follower and get more job opportunities as a DP.
thanks bro! these are straight up opinion! and I find it valuable. Relationship/connection is the key for continues projects! I am starting out my production and I have been doing it for about 2 1/2 years now, finding your channel is great inspiration! I will keep up! thanks!
Congrats on 20k dude. Been watching for the last few months. Director/Cinematographer from Scotland. Lot's to learn and lots to gain. I've been through a few different career paths as well. Sound Engineering when I first left school but I only recently found my love for film again after stepping away in 2011.
Love the videos bro! super helpful even for those who aren't persuing careers in film. Love this down to earth honest style! keep doing you.
Thanks YT for showing me this channel. I'm very grateful for your work and content like this. You have no idea (or maybe you do and that's why you do it) how helpful and important what you do and say is for young cinematoghaphers like me
Great video. Having good relationships and a strong work ethic as a PA on set has gotten me call backs, recommendations, and allowed me to have enough experience (and money) to build my own business as a DP. I still love being on set as a PA. Always learning.
This was an incredibly motivating and helpful video. I'm currently in the process of trying to move from an editorial role in my production to pivoting towards the DP pathway. This really resonated and you've got yourself a new sub.
As a dp that's searching for a job, this video gave me a fresh perspective and motivation to keep going. Thanks man!
Thank you so much for your advice Gian Carlo. A big fan of your speeches here ✌️
This is absolutely amazing!
The best advice I have heard to be honest
Love the positivity! Great advice and tips as always
Loved this video, man. Making the transition from photography to video/filmmaking (I'm also from Philly) and this was super inspiring. Found you via Danny's bts video. Glad I did!
Inspiration to the next level! Thanks from Italy
Love your videos! Gosh the video looks great love it. Did you use a tiffen filter? If yes which one? Or is it just the lens and that's it? Thanks for the great content
Great video. I came across your channel only recently, I love your advice; I’m more of in the world of photography but what you share is so applicable to almost everything!
I want to reach out more next year and I remember not doing so out of fear. Not even once 😅
Thanks for these videos!
I recently got your video's recommended on youtube. And I am ever so grateful. You share so much down to earth knowledge and wisdom. Thank you so much!
Thank you!
THANKS, YOU INSPIRE ME AS I AM ABOUT TO MAKE A SWITCH TO A DIFFERENT CITY THIS REALLY HELPS.
You’re absolutely killing it
Very inspiring
Great video man! Thanks for keeping it real.
I like this! Believing in yourself, working hard but remaining kind
Am a dp from from Africa, watching your content has been inspiring man. Keep up the good work
As someone coming into the industry, this is massively helpful
subscribed! was tryna figure out where I saw your face and realized you were in one of Danny's videos :D love the work my friend, keeping me motivated as well so i look forward to your content! :D
Thanks for showing us the new route into the industry !! Such a good watch
Of course!
Bro I'm loving your content more everyday!
This is a great video, I'm so glad I found your channel. I'm in a similar boat where I've DPd a few short films and a feature, but only gaffed once and haven't climbed the ladder. I love the idea about taking people for lunch or coffee rather than just send them a showreel and introducing yourself
Thanks!
Great work man! Watching your growth has been amazing and inspiring!
Thank you Matt
Thanks buddy! always thank full for such a kind guidance.
Im from Brasil and i love your videos man, thanks and dont stop
Very inspiring insight about career and life...keep it up bro...
Very inspiring and a lot of great tips, thank you :)
Yet another great video, congrats and keep up the great work!
Thanks
thanks,that's so useful for me
as always, GOOD JOB MAN. I fully agree with you about the relationships being crucial. It's totally understandable that you've succeeded being the type of person that you seem to be here on RUclips. Keep it up! and good luck man.
Thanks!!
god how useful this video is!!! thanks man, i watched whole video and i found that I knew about camera. please make more useful contents like this about alphabetic expressions of photography and Video camera. thanks a lot, subscribed
Great Job, I'm from Portugal and I'm studiyng Cinema in college, i really like your videos, they give me some inspiration to make sone project for classes, thy for that. Keep up with the great job.
you hit the spot when you said, to build a healthy relationship with the people you work with. Also when you said "I'd rather work with someone who's decent at their job but is kind and hardworking, rather than someone who is the best at their job but you don't wanna be around" so true. Also the fear of rejection is a common reason why most people miss out on oppurtunities. Like you said, the worse thing that can happen is they say no and your life is still the same.
🎊🎉🎊🎉 Congrats on the move and continuing the pursuit for ur dreams of becoming a DP
Thanks!
I am working as a cameraman in Korea.
dramas, documentaries, etc.
I came across your youtube by accident.
I always support you
:)
Really inspiring stuff Carlo, thank you!
My giy
Inspiring. Very. Actually you are my favourite filmmaker on youtube right now. Thanks Dany for showing you. You are a man! keep going, much love bro from Slovakia :)
Thank you!
SENSACIONAL!! 👏👏👏
Great advice, man. Hope to come across each other at some point within the PA filmmaking scene. Keep crushing it dude
Thanks man! Likewise, I’m sure we’ll cross paths
This is such a raw and true video, thank you
Thank you
Thank you so much for this
A banger, as per usual
Thank you for your vids man ! They are inspiring me.
I am studying film in Germany right now, not sure where it takes me, but the mindset you are talking about definetely goes worldwide !
I am getting this idea in my head to maybe move to the US one day, but it would be a really huge step for me and again, lets see where my journey takes me after I finished studying :)
Thank you!
My bro you have given such a great advise . 100% accurate , a lot of ppl who have massive talent would be no where because their attitude isn’t right. Goodluck and I’m always waiting for your videos. I would love to know some really nice all rounder cinema lenses that you can suggest .
Thank you
thank you!
Thank you man
This video is so helpful, man. You explain your advice rather than just give it. I am your exact target audience lol. Love your videos!!!
Much love!
Very good advice, all true. How do you go about finding the people you want to take out for lunch or coffee? It's not always obvious I find who you're supposed to get in touch with.
I am a biginner in the filming world and once I bought my first Cinema Camera "the C200" which was second hand, I asked the owner to give me tips how to be in the film industry in Amsterdam. He gave me alot and he told me anout his career journy. It is so similar to yours. He fixed the rejectofobia that was inside me.
Most inspiring content ever fine on internet,
Thank you
I am also a DP, We all have to choose many things to have a good video and it is true that work only comes from relationships. 2023 will be a difficult year for the film industry globally, good luck and lots of beautiful job bro!
as a upcoming dp in chicago this video is very motivational to me and offers great advice so I thank you for being comfortable to share what you have learned
Best Talk!
Ты классный парень) спасибо за видео, которые ты делаешь
wow its true we love u bro
As an African American I can agree with Carlo. People like me are not given opportunities in this industry. Especially when you’re in a small city. Of course I can move, but I’m in a city where filming is huge, and movies are being made here constantly. They just not giving black folks opportunities in the film industry. It sucks, but I’m never going to give up.
So thoughtful video. Thx for that.
Quick question. Is there a significant difference between a DP and a DOP?🤔
You be giving game foreal earned my Sub
Much love
everything you said resonates with me so much i got my foot in the door as a behind the scenes photographer and would just network and build with every single person on set! hey brother im near philly if you ever need bts or help with a youtube video lmk we got some mutual friends would love to connect!
Thank you Mateo! Hmu on IG to chat some more
@@carlostigs absolutely just sent you a dm bro!
Congratsulation for making this video!
:)
Nothing but wisdom🔥
Thank you
True
20K! What a win!
Thanks!
Drink everytime you say DP. - But on the real, good stuff. You definitely inspire people like this. Keep it up!
That's what he is trying to say. How difficult it is to have faith in yourself and say that sentence: I am a DP. It's a big responsibilty and takes a lot to say it. Say the word DP.
geiler typ
real talk
Damn that hits so hard. Thats all so true and I see myself struggling a lot right now with that. I'm studying film in Germany and somehow I have the feeling that I'm just not so popular among my mates. I would love to be one of the people that get hit up for a shooting. But nobody asks me and i always think that just a few people really likes me.
If I'm not smiling I look pretty serious and not friendly, I know that and I work on it to smile more. But sometimes it just doesn't feel right, like not me and I think because of the "fake me" it just makes things worse.
A lot of my friend told me that they needed a bit time with me to see me as friendly and almost everyone told me they had the feeling at first i wouldn't like them. I hate it so much...☹️cause I would love to make friend fast. I love it to meet new people but somehow it just doenst work out for me that easy.
hey ! I have just stumbled across your comment. I am also studying film in Germany :) In which city do you study?
I know the feeling, I also need some time to get "warm" around people, but hey we can only learn and be better :)
@@FloOoTheOne Hi, in Darmstadt ^^ And you? :D
@@chrisjmedia oh nice ! I am in Munich :)
@@FloOoTheOne ahh munich. so beautiful. I love it there! :D
@@FloOoTheOne whwat kind of films do u make? I'm sure we can team up together some day for a bigger project :D
This is probably weird but I too am kinda short so I feel like poeple dont take me seriously as a dp or anything really. I bought a megaphone and honestly idc anymore lol I need to be firm and have confidence in what I think and do.
You're a pretty passionate guy, and that's alright. 👍 If someone doesn't have any passion for what they're doing, then one has to question why they bother doing it ? You are so right about "relationships," and the ability to be "humble," and a "kind" person. 👍 Brilliantly said. Biblical Advice ! 👍😃 Build your team. Make your family. Always work with the same people you like and are good if you can. I know a few brilliant, talented DOP's, but they're arrogant asses, and they're so egocentric they don't always play well with others, and are difficult to be around. I am always amazed how so many with attitude can continue to work ?
Thanks mark!
So aggresive bro....lol jk, always a pleasure to hear your genuine expressions.
HARD WORK beats TALENT everyday
You can get by, but you'll need a roommate or two in order to make ends meet.
Carlo, you're not a DP. You're a LP, Leader of Photography. Your "leaders eat last" disposition will take you far - and beyond.
Thank you!

you were not agressive in this video def more passionate
