My father didn’t live to see this.... I wasn’t at the SB but I was at the NFC Championship in the same seats we still have to this day; from the day the Dome opened. When they won NFC Championship, I was crying thinking of all the people who passed away and waited for this moment their entire life.
It was the same way with my Grandfather, except he was a life long Eagles fan and he got to witness his team's first SB win. Being a Patriots fan myself, i call him and congratulating him on seeing his team win for the 1st time and then a bought him a Superbowl Champions hat as a gift. Over 2 years after the Eagles won their first SB, my grandfather died from Cancer before Christmas. So me and my family got to visit my grandmother's house and celebrated his life and Christmas. Then when my grandma laid these hats out for us to keep, one of those happens to be the same hat i bought for my grandfather, i took it right away and to this day, i have it hanging on my wall, in honor of my grandfather.
Right! I grew up in NOLA in the 70s-80s. I was in Colorado with my family for this Super Bowl. We had a party at my brother's home, and even out Colorado friends cheered for the Saints!
I still get teary eyed watching this. I grew up all my life in Louisiana and remember watching the Saints in the 80's. We've come along way! I will always remember this day!
They're following the same path this season. The parallels between our current 2018 squad and the champions of the 09 season are almost eerie. The Saints will add another to the trophy case this February!!
This Super Bowl gets my vote for probably the best ever. Why? First of all, 5 years prior to this game, the city of New Orleans was mostly underwater, the Superdome was damaged and the Saints had to play their games elsewhere after the damage done by Katrina. People lost their homes, possessions, families and friends, and worse. The city, and the team too, had been through so much not just from Katrina but from seasons past where they had been consistently losing. For them to finally get to the Super Bowl AND win it was wonderful. They deserved it, it truly is a feel good story, maybe the best of the 2010's decade. I remember watching the game while in college and felt so happy that they won. It was a huge pick-me-up for NOLA. Definitely an unforgettable moment. I had the honor of going down to NOLA and visiting the city/going to a Saints preseason game a few weeks back. It was amazing. NOLA is now one of my favorite cities. I would love to go back ASAP.
Matthew Jay Evans I agree me and my dad watched all their games that season because we didn't have direct to yet to watch my Jaguars it was a great season and they definitely deserved it. The Jags may be #1 for me but the saints are a close second. Go jags and who dat.
Mardi Gras unofficially began on February 7th that year and it lasted long after Ash Wednesday. I believe that Drew still a few good years left in him. If the Saints can rebuild their defense over the next few years, it is not inconceivable that my beloved Saints can win another one!
I love the Saints, man. I was a Bears fan growing up as a kid, but then I went to NOLA and fell in love with the city. Everything about it is great and they have a damn good football team. Sure the record may not reflect that right now, but I am a believer in them coming back and snagging another title. God Bless the Saints.
Our team this season is even better! Also, they share a lot of similarities with the 09 championship team.. it's a little eerie. Brees will cement his legacy as a top 5 all time QB when he wins his second world championship in February. Winning it in Atlanta will just make it that much sweeter! WHO DAT BABY!!
Still got my new papers from the bowl still to this day I cried like a baby that night I been through the worst with my boys from jim mora to Haslett to going through katrina Sean payton and brees took us from being losers to contenders and I'll always love my saints who dat 4eva the saints are America's team point blank and period.
This brings back so many memories. 2 things have happened in my lifetime that I never thought I'd see 1) a black president & 2) the Saints winning a Superbowl #whodatnation

I used to strongly dislike the Saints when they were in the NFC West, but to be honest, I was rooting very hard for these guys. Now they are one of the teams I always hope to do well. I'm very happy for Drew and guys like Shockey and Bush who got this moment. This was a truly special team.
This 2018 squad may be even better! With a loss at home to the Bucs and getting a long winning streak snapped by Dallas late in the season, this feels like history repeating itself since the same things happened to the '09 champs. Brees and Payton will hoist that trophy again in February... And this time, it'll be in Atlanta!!! WHO DAT 4 LIFE!!!
What a year this was for me. First off, I watch as my beloved Crimson Tide win their first National Championship since 1992, then a mere 2 weeks later, I watch as the Saints win the Super Bowl. You couldn't have asked for a better start to a year than that.
What I remember most about this post game interview is how Sean Payton rubbed it in the NFL's face for snubbing Drew Brees of the MVP because Peyton Manning had a more decorated career up to that point another reason why voting for MVP should be after the super bowl
Super Bowl XLIV, where the team I rooted for the most beat the team I hate the most. Don't think that'll ever happen again, but I'm damn glad it happened once.
The Saints did not cheat to win the Super Bowl! They beat the Colts fair and square. I am very proud of my team, and I always will be a die-hard Saints fan! I stuck with them through the bad years, and now the good ones. I'm not a "bandwagon" Saints fan. Let's do it again this season! Geaux Saints! WHO DAT!
@@chandlersbryant4047 And Cam Newton, Matt Ryan, Adrian Peterson, LaDanian Tomlinson and Shaun Alexander - all of whom played during the same era - managed to win it even though they never won a Super Bowl? They didn't always play for playoff teams either. How many league records do those players hold? They each had one good season and they're MVPs. Sorry but that's no excuse.
@@georgfriedrichhandel4390 Newton went 15-1 as the Starter and the Panthers were the #1 Team in the NFC Along with the #1 offense that Year, Ryan and the Atlanta Falcons had the #2 Seed in the NFC at 11-5 behind Dallas and Ryan was 2nd in the League with 38 Touchdown passes with a Historic Falcons offense, LT and the 14-2 Chargers in 2006 had the Best offense in the League not to mention the Records that He set that Year Rushing Wise, Alexander had a Then Rushing record of 28 Touchdowns on 1,800 rushing yards and Seattle had the #1 Seed in the NFC that Year. Judging off your comments I see you must be one of those Brees Fanboys who looks only At the Stats and not the Rest of the factors that Help players win MVP like the Record of the Team that they are playing on, So I'll ask you this: When Looking at 2 Teams, would you Rather give it to the Guy who's team went 7-9 and missed the Playoffs or The guy who's Team went 15-1 and had 45 Touchdowns against only 6 Interceptions and had won Super Bowl MVP prior along with the #1 Seed in the NFC? Hint: It's not the Player that was on the Team that went 7-9.
@@chandlersbryant4047 Here's why your logic is faulty. For each of those other players, you're just looking at one season but with Brees, you're looking at his entire career. The MVP is only given each season; it is not given for an entire career. In 2009, Brees led the Saints to a 13-3 record (and at one point the team was 13-0) and won a Super Bowl. Why didn't he win the MVP award then? Brees was setting records even when his team was not playing well. After those stellar seasons, what have those other players done? What has Cam done since that 15-1 season (and losing in the Super Bowl)? What has Ryan done since choking in Super Bowl 51? The last three seasons the Saints have made the playoffs and if it weren't for that no-call two years ago in the NFC championship game, they would have made the Super Bowl that season. Instead of looking at seasons when the Saints didn't make the playoffs, look at all those seasons when they did with Brees as QB and then explain to me why he didn't win the award (and hint, even in some of those seasons that the Saints went 7-9, they still had one of the best offenses - and in some cases, the very best offense - in the league).
