Many forget that at this point in time Malena Ernman was an international opera star travelling the world doing guest performances on all the big opera stages. And as for the faces they are needed to get the right resonance area in throat and mouth to get the right space for the sound to come out the way it does. A friend of mine has worked as a sound engineer for some opera performances and he hates it because some of the performers just are so loud that the equipment can't quite cope without some serious compression being done.
she is so gorgeous she seems like a very nice person i love her and that voice and high note is out of this world 21st place for this masterpiece was a crime imo!!
This was my absolute favourite in the Eurovision 2009! To say that I was shocked it ended up in the 21st place is not even coming close to how I felt. I loved this song and have been listening to Malena's music since. I attended Malena's Christmas concert in Stockholm in 2015 and was blown away! Greta was there too - little did I know that a few years later this girl will be known all over the world!
I'm so glad you liked it. 😊 So, underrated song... And as you said, opera singers make faces because it's easier to express themselves and she's so cute to me when she do it. 😄
Back in 2009 I didn't like this at all, I think this was not easy to digest for me, now I appreciate this kind of entries and this is all what Eurovision is about. I couldn't agreed more with you about the swedish tendency to send male singers, that should be changed ASAP, because Sweden has a huge variety of remarkable female singers. Many of them have participated in the National Selection more than once and never had the chance to represent the country in Eurovision. With that being said, I must add that I will always love a schlager Diva with pyro, a wind machine and a proper key change.
@@JordanDavisEurovision What is interesting is that they are the only artists in newer era Swedish eurovision acts that where at the peak of their popularity when entering the Melfest. They could at that point fill stadiums. Swedish eurovision artists are usually B and C level pop artists or former popular artists. The song writers are also on B and C level quality since the A level guys are writing for top level pop artists in the world.
I think the face is a work injury if you say so, think Malena actually is/was a professional soprano pre and even post ESC. Remember she got a lot of support from her opera singing colleges before ESC since she more or less was one of the first (probably have been many before but what i have seen not many at all) opera singing act to compete.
That makes sense. She seems too well-trained to not be an opera singer outside of Eurovision too.

Could she look any more swedish? Her voice was strangely weak in the whispered verses or how you call that. Did you know its the mother of Greta Thunberg? Sorry if i skipped the part in case you mentioned it.
Yeah, I noticed that too but I assumed it was just the effect she was going for. Judging by the rest of her vocals my guess is that the verses could have sounded stronger if she’d felt so inclined.

Nowadays she is more known as the mother of Gretha Thunberg, and she put her career aside in support of the environmental quest of her daughter
I unironically love how any Sweden 2009 always has at least one comment about Greta Thunberg. I hope she's super proud of her amazing daughter! ❤️
I loved this song back then, I still love it xD I love most of her songs!
This and Sweden 2010 are the most underrated swedish entries by far
She is a professional international opera singer
Sweden was underrated, I can't believe it. I always liked it. It was a huge surprise that she is gretas mother
Totally, I was surprised by how good and original this was, and how relatively poorly it placed in the grand final.
Honey, Sweden is NEVER underrated, often overrated but never underrated. Song is very specific that's why isn't everyone's cup of tea.

Yeah this is one that has really stuck with me since reacting to the 2009 songs. I couldn’t even imagine how heating her voice in person must sound!
Malena Ernman have her own fan club for her biceps.
She does have a good bicep 😂
I'm so glad you liked it. 😊 So, underrated song... And as you said, opera singers make faces because it's easier to express themselves and she's so cute to me when she do it. 😄
It was so refreshing to see this from Sweden!
Great song, like the singer!!!!! Very very swedish !
Yay! that was my shout... glad you liked it :)
Of course it was, I don’t know how I forgot! Great recommendation as always, I already downloaded it.

If anything THAT’S the formula they should be following 😂. Schlager divas for the win!
I actually really like this and I still think this song deserved a better place.
It's a shame Sweden 2007 wasn't within the scope of your 2007 reactions. That one is quite the wild glam rock half nude feathery glittery ride!
Haha well I’ll try to go back and react to it some day, I’m always down to go back to reactions I may have missed!

@@JordanDavisEurovision She hit those parts better in the Melodifestivalen performances. She might actually have been a bit nervous.
