- Maria Callas singing “Suicidio” from La Gioconda in a vocally good night for her on 12 November 1973 in Mannheim! On 26 November 1973, she sang in London in much worse voice transposing her arias and duets due to cold! Here some days before she is in much better voice! Hope to enjoy!!
I was 19 years old, when I was in this concert 1973, may be the last one, who is alive from this concert in Mannheim. I payed 110 DM, a lot of money in that time. but... Callas gave me the most emotionally moments in opera singing since I was 15 and i knew every aria and every opera from her. But I saw her only in my fantasy and in this Mannheim concert I completed my listening-fantasy with the visual exiting. It was amazing, it was very sad listening the very end of her career. vocal not satisfying, because I heard her voice with my inner voice from her past and best time. Even then this concert kept in my mind as the most emotional and historical event. Thank Maria Callas: she made me always happy, sad, weeping, exiting. She gave me the most beautiful moment of opera singing. Thank for the post too!!
Lovely thoughts from you. I will always remember the emotional impact she had on you. Art and music: Life-affirming. La Divina, like no other!
Thank you for sharing this memory with us and bringing her a little closer to those of us who were not fortunate enough to see her live ❤️
Thank you for your tribute to the great Callas. I love her dearly. She did an inimitable Carmen, interpreting the words like no other. She was to Opera what Lawrence Olivier was to acting. After she sang a role, it was impossible to do it differently or better.
Some English words need to be corrected:
PAID, not PAYED.
EXCITING, not EXITING. EXITING means to leave (Exit).
@@mjremy2605 thanks o lot for Your correction, I was a little bit unfocused (stupid:)
This is proof that she hadn't ruined her voice. She had simply gone through a very bad period physically and emotionally. She was still an amazing singer!
Thanks for historical recording
Her voice touch my soul,it’s chilling ,
I would rather listen to Maria post-prime singing than any other soprano!
Most sopranos at their zenith can’t pull this aria off with such pathos emotion and vocal acumen.
BRAVO.
That chest voice ❤️
Maria Callas 👌🥺
Thank you for your kindness 🤗
People don’t realize how grueling this last tour was, city after city despite significant health concerns at this point .
Someone recently posted a video compilation of forms great singers in their decline most of them were far from listenable . Like Callas only a couple were able to still spin the magic and artistry. She was always a voice lesson even to the end.
The eternal Callas!
😌😌😌 this is how I feel when listening to La Divina
Maravillosa y única voz en su género!!
Callas Adorata!!!!
Wow 🤩
BRAVA, LA DIVINA!!!
Bella interpretación.
Magnifique 💗
Una GRABACIÓN REALMENTE MÁGICA... CHAPEAU BAS.
It’s kind of tortured sounds in the lower middle notes, but her mastery of melodramma per musica, is better than it was in her 20s. Those “sfogature di labbre” were ansolutely mind-blowing-époustouflant!!

CALLAS ETERNA POR SIEMPRE.
The voice is broken in the low register, she is not able to mix the middle voice with the low voice anymore, I am so sorry foor her, who told her to sing like that, probely Di Stephano!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think she used to push chest notes into middle G, then sing a cabaletta with an E flat. Then switch from dramatic coloratura to lyric coloratura and Medea, Ifigenia etc. Constant demands on the two little chords (and her demand for emotional intensity) were sufficient causes to injure the voice and her immune system.
@@maxcornise7204 Not even close, she was perfect in 1969, knew what she was doing, never better, so listen to that, you wil inderstand, she did listen to the wrong man for sure!
A genius destroyed by the paparazzi..
She was the only one and the best even when you say she was not in good voice her singing is à maister classe in it self. Edward Arckless ex Royal Oper Ballet Covent Garden London.
A 3591.
this isnt Maria Callas, this is her very sad shadow...
This definitely the 50years old Maria Callas!!! She sings with the same passion as she did in her debut!

La Callas who spoke of Bel Canto as a way of singing is not exhibiting it here. The wide vibratos are very different from the limpid, straight tones of her Lucia, for instance, in the 50's. In the name of passion, she was forcing the very top and bottom. This is the antithesis of what Ponselle said, to sing on one's interest and not on one's principal.
@@Leonella449 Singing is MUCH MORE than a state of mind. Vishnevskaya was not a Bel Canto singer herself.
