Front Mission 2: Remake is, unsurprisingly, a remake of Front Mission 2. If you enjoyed the original, you'll likely appreciate the remake. However, there isn't much else to justify this release. The story is intriguing, but even the most dedicated fans of clunky, slow-paced video games may struggle to endure the RNG-heavy combat. This is especially concerning, considering it's supposed to be the second of three Front Mission remakes. After the quality of the first two, there's skepticism about whether the remake of Front Mission 3 will retain its essence.

Can I just tell you guys how much I appreciate this channel? All the Yongyeas of the internet will talk about indie games, but only cover one after they've already broken through to the mainstream. Thanks for introducing me to some of my favorite titles I never would've known even exist.
Thanks! We know exactly what you mean.
agree this channel is both amamzing and underrated
Totally agree. Took a chance on Sakura Wars because of this channel. I absolutely loved that game. This channel is my favorite for gaming.
Yongyea just says what's popular. Real gamers like noisy pixel cover actual games and give their honest opinion.
Well after listening to the well documented review and what people have said about the channel here I'm definitely subscribing.
I strongly disagree that the battle is based on luck. Depending on how you customize your mech the higher " Hit" value your "Arm" part have , the higher your chance to hit your opponent. Also If you have certin skills example "Aim" you can choose different part of the opponents Wanzer with 80+% chance to hit. Other factor is your pilots skill base, and CPU of the Wanzer . You should play this game more before reviewing 😅
The reviewer probably only played a few hours, which is very lazy and misrepresents the game.
This is the top review of this game when searching for it on google and it's all complete misinformation from some dummy that didn't even play the game. fire this fool.
Don't bother complaining. This reviewer covers JRPGs solely to shit on them and try to bring down their review scores.
Front Mission I hold near and dear and this was the only entry I never got to play originally as I can’t read Japanese. I’ll be waiting for the Steam version as that’s where I played the first one. I’m very excited for FM3 (my very favorite in the series) and hoping they’ll eventually remaster/remake Gun Hazard that was on Super Famicom and also give us 4 and 5, too.
Man, Gun Hazard would be a blessing, since it is, possibly, the only one who deviated from the original gampley style and managed to be as good as the mainline. Love that game and would be thrilled if it ever gets a remaster!
Front Mission 3 is getting a remake? Nice. When I couldn't read I thought his name was pronounced Sir Ball.
@@ricardojunior9729Same, loved Metal Warriors/Assault Suits Valken and would love to see a Gun Hazard remake.
2:22 This review really loses it's credibility here and is just plain LYING about some items. There are multiple ways in both FM1 & 2 to target specific body parts and you gain these skills very early into the game. Tons of weapons are able to do huge damage or entirely one shot enemies. The terrain effects have a big impact on whether you can dodge an attack or how much damage you take, etc... Like anyone who's played these games for more than 5 mins would know this.
He probably played it for 30 minutes that's why he doesn't know that skill that's let you aim at of the body parts
Not to mention different arms accuracy, and the fact that later parts have better stats, so you'd be hitting way more than in the beginning.
should be top comment.
You can target body parts when you gain skills (just like FM1:R). Was this review done after playing for an nour? Lazy journalism
This game is the FF 2 of the series. It’s very divisive even among fans. It’s also the odd one out in a series that has a side scroller. The money is in a good remaster of 3 but without a good track record no one will trust them.
With armored core making a comeback the stage is set for mecha to come out of the mothballs. If only some one would give them the time and budget.
With the success of Armored Core 6, the revival of Titanfall 2, the announcement of Mechwarrior: Clans and the launch of Front Mission 2 remake this is a great time to be a mech fan!
You also gave the first Front Mission's remake the same score, but in my experience it was fairly playable. Hopefully it doesn't scare away those interested.
hopefully 3 is peak
"Fairly playable" is not okay. This game is fan patch level. Worse than FM1R. The typos alone are ridiculous. Lots of crashes. It's bad.
@@LAGSAS I wanna see 4 get released
the reviewer also said you can't aim at body parts even though you can and said hit percentages were bad without noticing that learned skills/better equipment increase them as you progress. Sounds like they didn't really play for longer than 30 minutes-an hour. Who cares what such a half-assed reviewer thinks? This review is a bunch of mis-information.
I played FM1 when I was a kid and racked 100+ hours in the remake. I never played the second game and was excited.
I still am because the visuals and the story are much of my liking. However, poor translation, constant crashes and the lack of a NewGame+ mode like in FM1 make this game inferior. It's insulting given the fact that the game release was delayed *precisely* to polish it.
There's still a chance to make it a good experience. If they rework the translation, fix the bugs and implement a way for you to keep your gains after finishing the story, FM2 can be as good if not better than FM1.
I appreciate your honesty with this review.
Not even the update could fix this mess. I really like the assets but like you said, for something made more than 10 years after the original, it feels like such an amateur project.
Can't wait for them to finally remake the greatest game of this franchise. FRONT MISSION 3!
I'm glad somebody finally mentioned the garbage translation. I think if FM1 Remake hadn't already had a functinal DS port to crib from it would be equally bad.
I'm afraid you're correct. The first remake was good because the DS remaster already existed. Half of their work was handed in a silver plate.
There's a fan translation of FM2. Played the FM5 fan translation and if that was any indication, their FM2 translation is probably far better than this official one.
I like the luck aspect of the combat. You still control enough variables so that the best team wins
I love this game but it hurts to hear its given 5. IMO il drop a 6.5
Still hoping for front mission 3 remake that game is the best among the series.
Have you played FM5? While 3 was great, 5 was just perfect, especially when it comes to battle mechanics/customization.
Just make us a game whether it sucks or not, haha,
I wish to see what platforms the game supports. For some reason there is no such info in the video.
I want to like this game only because it is so hard to play. Front Mission 1 and 3 were much better games. And I see why this never made it to the USA now. I hope they still remake Front Mission 3. That was my first best one out of them all. I just want better graphics and leave most of it as is other wise.
I still want to play 3
Are sure it never was realsed in north america, I swear I played it haha
I totally understand disliking the luck factor. However, for me it’s what I like most about the game. Certainty is comfortable and sometimes boring. Conversely, uncertainty is exciting.
Usually I can handle RNG but this game has insane RNG. I honestly had trouble on normal I will probably just play through on an easier difficulty for the story. I played FM1 remake and enjoyed it but the addition of the AP system feels very poorly balanced.
You didn't complete the game, did you?
If you did you'd know Torso First, Arm First and Leg First are obtainable skills used to target specific parts.
This review was brutally honest. At least the first remake kept my attention, this one has too many problems. It's a very souless remake with zero enhancements to gameplay and presentation. Tons for grammatical errors and the story is so dry and unenjoyable. You have a 8 character limit to name your mech so there goes cool names. Only good thing is that mechs feel nice and heavy like Front Mission 4 and graphically look nice. I have no faith that FM3 remake will be good, at least not in current Dev's hands. Really wished Square Enix personally takes over and does them in house.
as far as i know all 3 remakes are made by different teams
Dude literally claims battles are luck based and there is no way to target specific parts, this is not an honest review but a lazy one made after playing for 30 minutes to just get footage for the video.
couldnt agree more, im playing through it on easy just to sway the odds in my favor and enjoy the story/make my wanzers pretty :) here's hoping we will see Front Mission 5: Scars of War localized.
That said a mech SRPG i'm really looking forward to is called Kriegsfront Tactics it allows for targeting specific parts.
It's already been fully translated. You can play it on a PS2 emulator
@@fillerbunnyninjashark271 oh cool thanks I'll check it out but I'd still prefer an official release
@@Failedlegend Not worth the money, just get the rom and load some cheats to speed things up. Scars of War relies too much on avoiding friendly fire and the story is meh. Bromance of childhood friends...
@@chinito77 Bro, you dont really understand at all because FM5 is the final game that improved alot compared to other series. The main reason why people dont like it because they dont bother to abuse the system entirely, friendly fire is applied on BOTH sides, you need to exploit the weakness like how AI will exploit your squad too. If you dont understand the core gameplay, then you dont understand how to set your squad up to make Link attacks while minimizing the Friendly fire happened.
This game by far is the hardest one to play with FM2 taking the second place because you need to master the advanced technique and tuning/customize the wanzer for upcoming battles. I dont have any issue with Friendly fire because I already know about it and set them 1 space from each other to reduce Friendly fire happened (Assault and Striker always prone to this issue). I already beat this game so many times that I just have almost 2,000 hours play accumulated on my PS2 Memory Card.
@@chinito77 I've played all FM but 2, and 5 is my absolute favorite. The story is ok, but all the gameplay mechanics are brilliant.
As someone living in South America, thank you for clarifying that the southern hemisphere has an opposite season.
4:37, Well, I've been skeptical from the start, when SE appointed Forever Entertainment to work on the remake of Front Mission 1-3.
Graphic & gameplay wise, i prefer Front Mission 2089 Borderscape, it has much better graphic, and gameplay closer to Front Mission 5, which I liked the most.
Unfortunately SE decided to abandon the project.
FM 2 & FM 3 are my favourite games, including FM 5. And my hopes for a proper remake have been ruined.
Man im hoping they remake the Front mission 5 for pc early i really really love the combat in that game and upgrade function.
I tried first remake i forgot how frustrating it was....missile miss its target seriously...3,4 and 5 are my most waited one im having seizure in remake 1 the combat is really really bad with low HP wanzer parts unlike enemy scaling with difficulty mother of god.
its like you need to wasted time first play on easy difficulty the use the new game plus oh yeah i hope they add new game plus on front mission 4 i love 4 too i miss elsa daryl not much since i keep seeing him on my ps2 console for front mission 5 i should get new copy of 4 back.
I'm playing FM4 literally right now as I write this lmao. I just noticed there's a new game+ in this game where I keep my EP and money, not only skills like FM3. FM3 and 4 are really fun game tbh
@@irfanburningowl I suggest you get the peak one (front mission 5 scar of war)worth your time that one was my fav and it has new game plus for you challenge higher difficulty.
Sad I no longer had PS2 but that one was one of my relic I keep since 2011 safe.
@@irfanburningowl and I forgot to mention that start from FM3 missile no longer had that ridiculous miss and act as missile unless there's something in the way and hit it.
Im Having seizure in FM1 and FM2 remake fire single missile just to miss what an absolute world t call missile for reason it seek target 100% accuracy.
FM3,FM4 and FM5 my fav because the weapon finally had sense in range I thought in remake 1 and 2 they fix it nope they just copy paste the game with new game plus on it....
I played the first on switch, and cleared two stories. And i play again in steam deck and yooo what the hell the grafics much much better, so i will wait this game to release on steam instead. 😂
You didn't mention about combat skills, that really change gameplay.
Thanks for saving me the money I would have wasted on this game.
Has the translation for this game been fixed yet? I heard it was really bad at launch...
2023 game ? I love turn based , but this is too bad !
Thanks for video .
The reviewer neglects to state that you can actually target body parts negating much of the RNG aspect.
I skipped FM2 back then. Guess Imma skip it too now to wait for FM3.
been waiting 4 this rev tanx
Did you run into any bugs? Mine would freeze at a wanzer shop, then when i try to reload my save, all my money is gone. I hate having to repeatedly replay a previous battle and hoping i don't encounter the bug again when i enter the next area. I stopped playing it on my Switch. I'll come back to it at a later date.
i played the original back on ps1. did they ever fixed long rangeweapons?
long weapons were so heavy that was impossible to mix match it with other weapons in the same mech. and had so little ammo by the first 1/3 of the game everyone in your team that used long was massively under leveled
Front mission 3 and 4 remakes when
I wish they would just use HD-2D
The heck the pixels would ruin the dark atmosphere of this game....
are they planning on doing a remake on Front Mission 3?
Ash & Joyce look like Kazuki & Ryogo in Front Mission 3
Man, remaking the franchise must have been a bad idea from the start. But I appreciate Square Enix's efforts at it, coming from a gamer's perspective.
They should have been remade with creative changes to fix initial problems.
Front Mission 3 is substantially better than 2, so I'm hopeful the remake of that one will far surpass these.
If they'd actually looked at what was problematic about the original games and fixed that they could have been better. One of the reasons I like Front Mission 4 the most of the series is it gives you a lot of combat skills to focus on specific parts and other ways to dish out damage faster, but this one seems to lack those features.
@@WhiteFangofWar I never tried playing the remake. But if that's true, then yeah, it's a missed opportunity in what could make the remake good.
i just wanna know what other square enix game hes talking about
Sooo, what's the first game who had all the bells and bows?
Star Ocean the second story remake
Hope they don't fuck up FM4/5 remake. I will lose since they are my favorite.
Remake but the gameplay is the same.. Honestly FM1's remake looks worse than the original on Snes. And the gameplay is the game. So there was no real point in playing it. FM2 only needed a translation at the time and they failed to deliver even this by using a garbage machine translation. Forever is such a terrible studio, they should stop.
did they seriously use machine translation?
You ok there? You got friends and family nearby to speak to?
@@SerfsUp1848go play the original FM 2 with super long loadings and battle animations then
@@eyn85 i think you meant to send that to op not me lol
@@SerfsUp1848oh sorry friend and yeah it was meant for the disturbed weeb op
if FM3 remaster disapoints, il make my own lmao
this reviewer's a total dope. One of the first skills your pilots learn is "aim" which lets you aim at specific parts. Hit percentages go up as well quite early in the game. You can tell the reviewer didn't actually play the game beyond the first hour and just spouting misinformation. fire the reviewer and delete this crap review.
Game journalist moment
I don't see the point in remakes that are actually remasters with improved graphics and 0% changes. Make Front Mission 1 and 2 with gameplay that takes into account the entire history of the series, or take it to the next level, but don't copy the original 100% It's annoying.
Front mission has bengali intro???!!!!!!!!!!!!
This port is trash. I love Front Mission. But oh my goodness. Totally ignoring FM2 as a game. This port has: Lots of crashes. I got 2 crashes in FM1 in my whole playthrough, and 2 crashes in an hour of FM2. Generic fonts, like I think they used default fonts from Unity instead of something tactical it looks miserable. Engrish, in the network you can review your pilot's "carrer", some of this is kinda original but this is supposed to be a remake c'mon. Horrible translation, written by non-English speakers, "is to be sometimes the words clearly Soviet Bloc you is knowing"? This is bad. I'm sad people have such low standards for Japanese stuff. You're better off with the PlayStation Hits remake and a translation app. Not even kidding.
Ouch
This game is not even called REMAKE, its just half-assed REMASTERED with WORST rework combat system ever. Original FM2 is far superior than this one despite the stiff and funky movement, but it depicts how combat system should be whether attacking, defending or evading against enemies.
I'm sorry to tell you that FM1 and FM2 Remake is totally GARBAGE game, they do not understand the definition of what a remake should be. If you dont understand what Remake is, please check FM1 on Nintendo DS version, thats what we call a Remake. This justifies on how the Forever SA employees doesnt understand a single thing on how to make proper game.
I already have very low hope on Front Mission 3 Remake, they just work like Grove Street studio where they just work on bare minimum and called it a day with lots of issues and bugs everywhere.
