  • Today I talk about the Pedal Commander and see if it really is a good modification for your car, or just a gimmick? Over the last two years we have installed the Pedal Commander on our Toyota Tacoma, Toyota Supra, Audi R8, Nissan GTR and now my wife's Audi S3. The Pedal Commander is basically an electronic programmer that intercepts the throttle pedal signal to the throttle body and adjusts how quickly your pedal input responds to the actual engine. In the S3 has very poor pedal response stock and even in Dynamic mode, there is such a delay from when I hit the pedal to the throttle body actually opening up. With the Pedal Commander you can fine tune that response and make it perfect! I like Sport +2 setting which gives it enough response to feel snappy, but also a soft enough lag to not just go crazy! Loving it and so does my wife! It's awesome how when you add a Pedal Commander to your car it makes throttle response now adjustable and so much sharper. The car responds better and its just that one extra way to fine tune your car and make it respond better. The best comparison I have is if you think about your steering wheel. If you turn the wheel 90 degrees, you expect a certain amount of turning from your car. But if you can sharpen your steering to have less input equal that same 90 degree angle, now your car will feel more agile and fun to take corners. The Pedal Commander is the same principle but for the lag in the pedal response. Great upgrade for any car!

    This thing only adjusts pedal linearity. This is something that's often adjustable in sim racing, with pedals. Players will do things like, set the brake curve so that it's limited to 80% so they can just push the brake all the way and never lock up, or they will set the throttle curve so that most of the pedal travel isn't enough to spin the wheels so they don't need to be as precise when driving high horsepower cars.
    This pedal commander thing is doing the same thing. Being able to finely adjust throttle linearity for certain racing related scenarios would be useful. But for road use don't bother. Any effect you think it's having is purely psychological because your pedal's linearity curve is mapped differently than what you have grown accustomed to.

    Hi, was wondering if you could help me understand something about these throttle controllers? I know many people want these for improved response and for their car to feel quicker, but I drive a manual car with a gas pedal that's way too sensitive and was wondering if this would be useful for the opposite effect.
    Basically, I add a bit of gas to move off and there is a significant delay before it responds, and then it revs too high (above 2000rpm). I feel like I have to press the gas pedal a very very small amount, and was curious whether a simple throttle controller might offer a more linear response that would be easier to control. Perhaps this is what the "eco" mode would do? I just don't want to have to put so much effort in to be smooth and avoid stalling my weak car. Other manual transmission cars I've driven have been so much less sensitive than my own.
    I should also add that I would prefer the car didn't have such a delay before responding to throttle input, but the thing I'm most curious about is making the throttle mapping more linear/less 'touchy.' Am I way off here or is a product like this something that might help?

    • @BrosFOURRSpeed
      @BrosFOURRSpeed  4 месяца назад

      This eliminates the lag from when you first hit the gas pedal to when the throttle body opens. So it makes the relation from your foot to the cars acceleration much more inner and responsive. This seems like it will help you out. Just play with the settings to dial in what works for you. I found the similar to stock setting, and then just went a few up from there to eliminate the lag.

    • @ElderlyAnteater
      @ElderlyAnteater 4 месяца назад

      @@BrosFOURRSpeed Thank you, that clears it up a lot. I think the delay means that, on hill starts, I roll back too far waiting for the throttle to respond if that makes sense (my car absolutely cannot hold with just the clutch alone). Must be so much easier to do hills without the handbrake with one of these. Cheers!

    I would say that on a NA car it can and does increase acceleration times. I have a Audi s6 v10 that gets 0-60 in 5.1 stock and tuned they get 4.8 and I was able to get 3.8 with the pedal commander and tune. I would assume a supercharged car would be similar but a turbo probably wouldn’t change it much since the turbo has to spool no matter what.

    I'm highly skeptical this changes the actual throttle response and simply just masks it. I feel like it more or less changes pedal sensitivity by over or under shooting what pedal input you are doing for a breif moment. If it really did change the throttle response there should be a difference between the 0-60 and 1/4 mile times when immediately mashing the gas to the floor and not lifting. One thing I would love to see is an overlaid graph of the difference in throttle pedal input and throttle body output during stock operation and while using this product. I'm sure you could probably simulate what the pedal commander does but it would be a very unatural driving experience trying to mash the gas to the floor then instantly pulling it back to 25%

    • @BrosFOURRSpeed
      @BrosFOURRSpeed  8 месяцев назад

      There won’t be a significant difference in 0-60 times because it doesn’t add power. The car will still have the same power, but the quicker response is definitely significant. We have found it helpful in multiple vehicles. The “dead space” in every car pedal is what it helps eliminate.

  • @amill1563
    @amill1563 Год назад +2

    So, a possible reason why a car could be slower is not necessarily it's own power or shifting but it's factory delayed throttle body. Perhaps if cars were reviewed with this device it could make a difference in acceleration times. Perhaps you will do this on your next reviewed vehicle.
