A trip to Skiathos to catch the Jet Blast and low landing's due to the length of the runway! I had to come here, but the wind was in the wrong direction then we had one good day then an almighty storm which lasted two days!!
But I enjoyed my holiday here and will defo be back.
I would like to add, the weather changed and we had the biggest storm for over 60 years Storm Daniel, and our thoughts are with the people of Skiathos and they will be back stronger!

Why are people hanging around the arrival and departure end of the runway. This is just crazy ,only needs a little wind shear to change every thing. They are playing with jet blast, breathing in high levels of burnt jet A1 which is carcinogenic, hearing damage, risk of being hit by object thrown up by jet blast and standing on a road which they are forced to move with out control to clear themselves.

Ladies and gentlemen this is your captain speaking as you may have noticed we have people standing behind the aircraft and we gonna give them some hard core jet blast buck up and sit tight we are going for it full blast 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Great video and Skiathos is on my bucket list. I went to St Maarten earlier this year in May and that was really good but no big jets (biggest was a 757). For me nothing beats being at RAF Lakenheath for departures though

Have been to Skiathos 3 times now and on the second landing I noticed the pilot opened the air-brakes a good 4-5 seconds before we touched down and were quite a long way down the runway before landing
Its a great place!
Storm probably kept you and the tourists safe for two days .

This is why I never went to a place so "chic" that one has to endure noise pollution such as this, just to say they were there. Pretty sad. However, if I had a choice between here or an ocean cruise, like as a runner-up prize on Jeopardy!, I would certainly opt for the beach.

Are you talking about the British 61 year old woman tourist that was blown away by the turbines of a plane taking off? From what i know she was severely injured and taken immediately to hospital but i don't think she died...

And I bet Ryanair don't do max power t/o to get out of a short runway often at high temps because it wears the engines out quicker. Used to be all a/c had to do max power takeoffs till they extended the runway and some even now can't take off with enough fuel onboard to get back to UK so have to stop off at Volos and top up.

Everything they do is for profit and low cost. It is a business after all. It is interesting they have a restriction regarding the length of the runway to not to push their aircraft to the limits.
Some nice camera work there Elwyn.yes it's dangerous regarding the jet blast,but people are people,not fully aware of the dangers of jet blast.i've personally been there 3 times and once to the runway during a takeoff...you don't forget the smell of jet-A1 and how strong the blast can be...some folks are drawn to things like that and don't really know what they're in for.

I think the pilots love it more than the fun seekers. Also people would pay to stand there.
This activity is just an added distraction for flight crew during the most critical phase of flight, landing and take off. Pay to stand there? They are with there own personal safety, no bigger price then that.

Hi Elwyn, we spent some time at a place in Spain where the Patrulla Aguila Spanish Air Force display team train.
It's near the San Javier military training airport.
We rented an apartment, and the jets went low over our roof terrace. They completed their practice show performance on a Wednesday around 11am each week. We stayed at the Nueva Ribera Beach Club at Los Narejos and it was about a 15 minute walk to the runway.
The training planes usually started around 8am monday to thursday and also completed night flights.
Maybe worth a visit for you sometime? 😊

I’ve done this twice on Skiathos. The first time it was just my husband and I and the second time we took my parents. Yes, it’s stupid. Yes, there are signs all over the place telling people not to do it. Yes, people have been hurt, and vehicles have gone into the sea etc…but that split second as the plane goes over your head, almost close enough to touch, is exhilarating. I don’t suppose I’ll ever do it again but I don’t regret my choice one bit. I guess it makes me an idiot in other peoples minds, but luckily I lived to tell the tale.
There’s actually a proper beach at the other end of that runway too, just for added jeopardy 😁 Imagine seeing that view from a sun bed instead of focusing on the possibility of an incoming plane not being able to stop. There are so many beaches on the island to choose from, and that one wouldn’t be my choice but each to their own, hey? 😊
