    You make me smile. You make me laugh. Between you and my anti-depressant medication, I think everything is gonna be alright. I used to not go outside when it was windy, waiting for it to glass off so I could surf. But everybody surfs now and it was always windy, so by the time I went surfing I was out of shape and little girls would snake me. So, making friends with the wind is my new thing. Thank you, Damien, Glen, and Harry.

    I wanted to pause and sincerely thank you for sharing all your knowledge about and the enthusiasm for wing foiling with us.
    I have just come across the sport as well as your videos and enjoyed every single one so far.
    Jupiter Beach always feels special to me. However, last weekend, I couldn’t take my eyes off - what I have just discovered to be known as - wing foiling. They were everywhere! Well, there were enough of them to catch my attention (which is typically and naturally focused on keeping an eye on a four-year-old running around and playing in sand).
    Other than paddleboarding, I have never done anything surfing-like nor even thought of doing so. Yet, after two days at the beach, I found myself still thinking of the way the folks moved; how they shifted the wing, repositioned, just “smooth-sailed” without getting beaten up and without a whole bunch of tricky-looking equipment. I admit, spills weren’t disappointing to watch; recoveries were even better though.
    I finally grabbed the phone, started searching, and baam!, came across your videos.
    This fascination is a bit shocking to me as I’d have never, ever, in million years... well, anyway. Went to the surf shop today to inquire and already can’t wait to try it. Until then, there is a lot left to watch.
    Thanks again!

    These tips and tricks for beginners are the best (Punch the Water,...).
    For me, the most valuable content is seeing other noobs getting started, getting up out of the water where we can see their feet, how they hold the wing, when they get lift, wiping out, struggling, what to do when you've fallen and you have to get back on the board in choppy water, etc. All that is so helpful.
    And of course, playing with that wing on land (or skateboard in my case)

    Wingfoil is wonderfull, it is important to say that if you have background in kitefoil or windsurf, to wingfoil is easy. For the kitefoil is more simple because you know how to control the board when fly. And for the wing you need only 2 session to understand. For the transitions (gybe/tack) is other level, but you can.

      +1 for board size for winging! I was thinking about buying a board from Lift to use for foil surfing and maybe winging too if there is one which will do both well

    • @DamienLeroyYouTube
      @DamienLeroyYouTube  3 года назад

      @@danielhammack6511 Yes and no... Surfing you want a smaller board like a 4'0 or 5'0 board and it can work for winging but you have to be a lot better. Or go with a bigger board and not ideal for surfing as its a little bigger better for wingsurfing and SUP/foiling. It's hard to have the perfect combo. If I were to pick one it would be... The 5'0 LIFT is 40 liters so will work for both but harder on a wing as you will have to water start it. You will have to be more experienced on the wing.

      Heavy rider set-up. If your about 90kg to 110+kg and a complete beginner, then I would recommend a ''wing'' specific board with a volume of 120L to 145L and a Wing size 6.2 to 7m and gong do 9m i heard. Foil size 2000 to 2500 sqcm front wing with a mast of 85cm. Should get you riding in -10 to 17 knots. This is just my opinion only based on my own experiences being 100kg.

    Thanks Damien. Your videos are the best 👍👍. I'm an intermediate Kiter who can manage to ride in most conditions. I don't know how to hydrofoil though. Would you suggest giving up Kiting altogether and learning Wing-Foiling? I get that Kiting is probably more fun in terms of the number of things you do, and it's more extreme in some sense. But I don't want extreme. As much as I like Kiting, it took a while for me to learn it and I still feel somewhat overwhelmed when I run into line tangles and stuff. I am really drawn to the simplicity of "no lines". Please share your thoughts?

    • @DamienLeroyYouTube
      @DamienLeroyYouTube  3 года назад +2

      Funny we have a video coming winging vs kiting... SOON! It will cover exactly what you are talking about... honestly they both have their place! Both incredibly fun! Both challenging but I would say winging is more accessible to areas that kiters may struggle to kite with gusty winds and or putting out their lines. I think if you are not looking for the extreme. You should try foiling on a kite in lighter winds and that will help you also foiling on a wing! :) Or you just put the time in on the wing and you will fall in love with it.. I honestly love them both so never give up kiting maybe just choose the conditions for what may sound more fun for you that day! Kite or Wing..... Hope that helps....

    Great info, thanks! Have been windsurfing for ages, but is there a wing foil setup I could use for wing foiling (on a dedicated board) and windsurf foiling on a compatible windsurf board, let's say, equipped with a Tuttle box? I'm not so hot for one of the specialised windsurf foiling boards, since I love windsurfing with a fin, but rather a foil compatible windsurf board slalom/freeride for the occasion. So basically, is there a foil set that can be used for both or are the sizes (front/back wing for example) totally different? I would go for a very light wind setup, so big (beginner) wings, and I guess there are adapters for the Twin US vs Tuttle box issue.

    • @DamienLeroyYouTube
      @DamienLeroyYouTube  3 года назад

      Very great questions... I am not to up to date on the windsurfing, but I do not know of one that is very comparable honestly. I am sure there is might just have to do some research! Sorry if I find out I will let you know.... The foils below, 100% can be the same for both as you would get the biggest foil wings for light winds! That I know.. Just not sure on a board that has a mast attachment for windsurfing.

    Good video. Thank you. Looking for words of wisdom on possibly a wing foil. I'm a long time "decades" long boarder to give real I idea what use/enjoy i have/had since 1993 a equipe xr2 an a phantom 377 since 2015 that like 377 better with it's advantages. Use 8.5 ezzy lions on both for decades with my local given conditions of 10-20 knots when I can sail June to September. I'm getting old 58 having a harder time transporting dealing with all on water with age becoming a issue. I'm 5.7 tall 170 lb like being able to hook into my harness enjoy the ride 10-20 knots. I'm looking for a long board alternative to keep me smiling on the water for many more years that I can transport an physically be able to enjoy. Wings to me seem like they would be physically demanding in comparison to be able to hook in the harness in comparison to longboarding in similar weather. Please give words of wisdom wing.. or...👍👎

      @@MrJoefoefrombuffalo We have a ton of videos with a ton of info on foils and boards but I would say your age, skill, weight. You could run a board around 105 - 140 Liter, 5 to 6 foot. Larger volume, more stable. Foil I would start with big 1900- 2100 or around there mast length 70cm. Keep it shorter for learning and shallow lake. 6m wing for your lighter winds. Done deal! :). Have a look at our link in the description for some gear options. Hope that helps...

      Definitely try a wingfoilboard with a kite first, easier to control the power if you are a good Kiter. Only one new thing at a time like that. Once your comfortable on foil it's super easy to take a wing and just do it. But definitely easier with enough wind, when it's barely enough you have to pump the board and wing to get on the foil, that needs good foil feeling.
      So best would be to go in medium strong wind, take a bit smaller kite and try to ride the wingfoilboard. Keep the kite up high so you don't have to lean against it, stay rather upright on the board and position your feet and your weight pretty far towards the front at first, so you DONT fly up immediately on the foil. Keep the board on the water, and try to get some speed. Feel how the long mast under the board behaves when you do little steering impulses. Really practice riding with the board on the water. When you got a feeling for the left right steering, you can start moving your weight towards the back, in very small steps, when riding at good speed. At some point the foil will lift. Try to bring it down immediately again, so basically you go from riding on board to a small fly on the foil and back to on the board. Repeat. Increase the length of flying after a while. But always make sure to keep the board rather close to the water, highest 20cm. I'd recommend starting with 60cm mast length, later 80-90. But if you have to start with a long mast, practice left right steering longer with board on the water. Also, if your kite has enough power to pull you with foil and board in/on the water, the moment the board leaves the surface you gonna be overpowered and accelerate, so steer your kite up and depower.
