I did the below hack and the cake was sooo soft. I used 4 eggs, half cup yoghurt, 1 cup milk, 1/4 cup oil, half cup softened butter, vanilla and the chocolate cake box mix. Yoghurt made a lot of difference. I tried the same with mayonnaise but yoghurt is the key addition.

Hey Shannon! I'm so glad you like my videos! Here is my recipe for the white version, its called WASC (white almond sour cream cake) sugargeekshow.com/recipe/wasc-cake-recipe/
I made this cake today. It's so good. Flavor overwhelming good. Deep rich chocolate flavor. I made the mistake and purchased dark chocolate frosting. Still good but I prefer to make my own frosting. I will make this cake again. I use 8 inch cakecpans which I made three layers. They were wide. Great cake!!!!🎉❤
I would recommend checking out cake strips. these are fabric strips that u soak in water for 5 or more minutes. once applied it causes the cake to bake evenly so you have a flat but not domed, it also stops the edges from drying out and becoming crispy
This is a good hack! It must taste so much better with all those Ingredients, But if you’re just looking to hack a boxed cake with less ingredients, just add: Hot coffee instead of water....or melted butter instead of oil or a pack of pudding. That’s it. Always make your own frosting!!! Otherwise you ruined it! Lol Vanilla cake (is the best) or yellow cake, you add milk instead of water, melted butter instead of oil or half/half and add extra yolks. Vanilla cake comes out super fluffy And good 😋

Hi, I have a question. You said to put mix into (3 ) 8’ pans but you only put together 2 layers. Based on the ingredients you mixed it for 3, 8’ cakes or 2 (8” )?
This is the best thing I have ever tried. Wow it was amazing. I didn't have sour cream on hand and used mayonnaise boy was this so moist cake and last long to. Thanks
I definitely want to try this recipe out! Question, I’ve heard of adding Jello vanilla pudding mix in yellow box cake, could you add chocolate pudding mix to a chocolate box cake? Or is that not a good idea? A
OK: To all the people who say: "With all of these steps/ingredients, you might just as well make it from scratch...." There is a reason people buy boxed cake. It's for convenience, economy and consistency of results. There are food chemists that put the formulas together to make these boxed cakes. A home baker will usually make a more natural but heavier, denser product. If you're an amateur and you want to make something that tastes professional, this is the way to go. Making cake from scratch and making it from the box yield different results, even with the use of the hacks. Using a box mix is much simpler. This is for people who want professional results with less effort/ingredients/skill.
I made it and its very good. I doubt I will make a cake from a mix in the future without adding the extra ingredients. The texture was soft and nice but I never had an issue with the boxed cake texture. I always and forever use Duncan Hines brand mixes only. The flavor is already good, but this hack made it tastier. I did brew very strong coffee and it was a tad overpowering. Next time I will brew regular strength.
This is my first time watching your channel. I have an idea for chocolate cake with a cannoli style filling. My plan is to use the thinner ganache as a glaze. I thought that spreading apricot jam on the cut sides of my cake would be a good idea. I can modify the filling too. I am planning to add chocolate shavings, toasted pistachios and finely chopped dried apricots. It is a sophisticated flavor combination for Valentines Day dessert at home. If anyone has suggestions, I am glad to know them.
Amazing I make my kicked up cakes very similar but next up I’ll add sour cream or mayonnaise who knew 😉 omg that cake and ganache looks sooo delicious a glass of almond milk and omg 😋
By the time you're finished fixing the box mix, you could have just made scratch lol. It looks far more delicious than a box mix has any right to, however! 😋
It's ok, it's not for everyone. I used to be like you too. I went to pastry school and made everything from scratch. But since I have started teaching, I realize that some people just need a little stepping stone between box mix and completely from scratch for a variety of reasons. To some, box mix is all they know and all their palette is used to. So making a doctored box mix taste a little more like scratch helps them see beyond just the box. It's also full proof. As you know, making a cake from scratch requires very careful measuring and mixing. Beginners who only know how to put a box mix in a bowl get discouraged by difficult measuring. Box mix also has emulsifiers that help the cake rise pretty much no matter what. So the successful cake gives the beginner a boost of confidence. Once they see they can make something like a doctored box mix, they move onto baking from scratch more easily. I know this is a long answer but I wanted to let you know I get it and there is a method behind my madness :)
