Korea's proposal to the Philippines regarding submarine acquisition is particularly inappropriate. There's a sound reason why many export submarine models are based on relatively old, single-deck designs: all submarines, including warships, invariably experience malfunctions or degraded functionality. The Type 212 submarine, for instance, showed an extremely low operational rate for a considerable period due to various issues, despite being manufactured and used by Germany, which produces almost all components domestically. The real difference lies in how these issues are reported and exploited as political leverage. I've witnessed Japan's submarines, which the Japanese tout as world-class, arrive in Hawaii with functional failures, forcing them to remain docked throughout the entire training period. Interestingly, this wasn't publicized in Japan. I've also seen Singapore's Formidable-class ships, considered Southeast Asia's finest, participate in exercises with malfunctioning main radars. These incidents illustrate a crucial point: while similar problems occur across navies, their perception is largely shaped by media coverage and political narratives. Japan's submarine issues went unnoticed due to lack of reporting, not absence of problems. Even Singapore, with its robust defense budget, isn't immune to such challenges. Therefore, if the Philippines is to consider submarines, the best option is not to introduce them at all. It's too complex and expensive. I guarantee 100% that problems will arise, and this will be endlessly exploited and blown out of proportion by those just waiting for such negative issues.

The Offer is good, just in case, it suits the Philippine Navy because it prioritizes the economy flexibility of the offer all goods no matter what. Let's be practical, next time maybe we should aim for a high end submarine
Should be building destroyers, submarines, and small aircraft carriers with F 35s. Philippines has a large population. They should be doing more manufacturing, ship building, and utilizing this to be a dominant force against china.
The country has the largest commercial shipbuilding in the world. It makes you wonder why hasn't the past administrations didn't even think of taking advantage of this to start the local shipbuilding to cater the needs of the PN and PCG.
Philippines needs at least 24 guided missiles frigates! 30 offshore vessels! 8 submarines and 100 multi role aircraft! That’s reality of f guarding the 7600 islands we have!
make the world laugh, they make and build submarines but they can't fix them if there is a system error and damage. funny thing that korea gives to consumers. but what's funnier is that there are still those who want to buy their products. is it because of bribes from officials or lures that will harm buyers in the future. from price, quality and time losses. my statement now, if the philippines buy this submarine, one day they will regret it after using it.take it and you can take my word for it now, how many times and years to come. you will feel the same loss. both loss of time, quality, poor defense and money. and we did submarine repair in Korea at that time. and some time later our submarine sank after their claim was able to do overhull service.
Pinoys can do research what kind ORE package they tryna offer to Indonesian Navy then you'll be much more aware what's the issues is. By now all cooperation between ID and SK submarine is pretty much gone, severed by poor response to addressing the issue. The 3rd submarine from the first contract was ready and scheduled to launch in 2018 (see my short) after they found problems, later it happens in 2021. 3 Years wait worth of nothing. I remember some officials still trying to save Korean face, by buying time for them and hope them to resolve it. Gaslighting the issue with too shallow depth and mud issue surrounding the launching facility, yet three years after they did it without even single dredger ship doing their job. Indonesian leadership were furious, got additional funding after Nanggala accident and severed the deal. Guess who is the one who lost of trust here? Philippine Navy better be prepared and manage their expectations. People here thinking that we are Chinese just because we are opposing PH plan to acquire SK sub is just hilarious.

how can we buy submarine if the programmed( funded) funds are only 50 billion pesos? we already have pending 35 billion unprogrammed(unfunded but promised) funds. The government basically throwing empty promises while they can fund 1 trillion social aid which is not economically beneficial
Present and future administrations should develop and maintain our own ship building industry. Time to get off the hammock and roll up our sleeves. Tama na ang bulok na Philippine politics. Ph shouldn't waste its defense budget on conventional military equipment and hardware. Instead, focus on cost effective weapons that leapfrog battle technology and provide more bang for the buck like sattelie remote guided drones, mediun range ballistics, and asymetrical warfare
If we really take Ukraine into this discussion. The Ukrainians are pushing for more conventional weapons to strike back at Russia, i really don't think there's any problem acquiring them if AFU commissioned their 1st MILGEM Class Corvette from Istanbul, Turkey, Stress for more Air Defense, Push for more F-16s, and push for more conventional weapons to strike deeper into Russia. Don't get me wrong, I'm not against the idea of getting cheaper and economical weapons. But your average Kamikaze drones cannot intercept enemy missiles like MRFs or Air defense do, your average Kamikaze USVs cannot even function as both a offensive and defensive asset like the MMCFs, as it's possesses VLS and C-Star AShMs, and these drones are subjected into electronic jamming by enemies. Id say we should push for both.
South Korea submarines are excellent - they’re all copies of the German 209 and 212/214 submarines - you better explain yourself Sir cause you got egg on your face…!
South Korea should reflect on why Indonesia is reluctant to continue the Nagapasa class Batch II sea ship program. The Nagapasa class 403 and 404 submarines need comprehensive repairs because their performance is completely unsatisfactory. If you want Nagapasa class Batch II, South Korea must be responsible for repairing 403 and 404, aka quality guarantee.
See my YT short, the third submarine (405) of Nagapasa class was scheduled to launch in 2018 until they found defects and the launch scheduled back to 2021. 403 and 404 still undergoes ORE, guess what's happens? Good luck for Philippine Navy..
Don't waste money. Not a single country in Southeast Asia can properly operate submarines. When the US offers support, focus on building as many coast guard vessels as possible. The Philippine military is powerless against China, but the Philippine Coast Guard is useful. And don't have illusions about submarines. They're not the ultimate decisive weapon you imagine them to be. Don't envy Indonesia, Malaysia, or Thailand just because they have submarines. Their navies are just as amateurish as yours. They're not real navies, but more like naval cosplay at best.
Let us take a gamble on S80 at least it can fire tomahawk missiles..the korean export versions of models always degrade the capability compared to what the korean navy have although they deliver fast but not capable example we have budget but they remove AIP and VLS of KSS 3 why don't they offer then reduce it when philippines says out of budget this won't work with Marcos and Gibo Teodoro this are different culture with duterte mayabang in nature ang mga to they won't buy na kahiyahiyang weapons for sure. @@Juanleonardo-w5q mate, the arms world doesn't work that simple. Indonesia simply doesn't have much cash in hand, everything they deal with involves government's soft loans. Indonesia already operates 2 Type 209 from S.Korea, they'll need that operating for next 30 years and Indonesia still need Hanwha to perform full overhauling maintenance in 7 years time, they can do that with German contractor who knows Type 209 architecture but all the onboard systems are integrated by Hanwha and using some Hanhwa's own sensors and system as well. Indonesia shutoff Hanwha from 3 more Type 209 nagapasa model (which is specifically built for Indonesia's requested specs). That two Napagasa subs have no issues. So I don't know where you pulling that fake story from? There's no report of faults from that Napagasa sub as it's proven 209 design. It serves only as training sub for now. Originally, Indonesia wanted replace all two ageging subs and buy 5 or 6 new subs, and this was when DSME contract was signed. Indonesia never proceed after the accident. Stop comparing the Napagasa subs that were produced in DSME dockyard - they're good. Just that other aged sub needs to retire. Overhauling should have done when sub reached 7 years of operation. Usually sub's within 30 years of lifespan, it must go through 3 overhauling maintenance - cut into pieces and clean and repaire, and replace the battery every 7th year and even replace equipment & sensors & systems. Stop complaining with over 50 years old sub. Indonesia still need Hanwha. Type 209 is still good sub for coaster defense. Good luck with Sporpene sub, they also has many issues too. You think French and Turkish are perfect? they also went through hardships operating their subs.

philippines will still need the AIP and VLS system for its future submarine needs
The Offer is good, just in case, it suits the Philippine Navy because it prioritizes the economy flexibility of the offer all goods no matter what. Let's be practical, next time maybe we should aim for a high end submarine
Any one can sell any thing if the one offer good package of 30 years loan and 30 years after- service.
Total package. Me sub na ,free training ,,home base command ,
Buti pa yung Singapore, they just received their 2 brand new highly advanced attack submarines from Germany.

Philippines should have a Submarine fleet
♥️♡🇵🇭

I dont think removing AIP is a good move. The Ocean models do show promise though.
So we can afford it but is still have Lithium Battery
Speaker stop corruptions . Buy submarine
Mabibili lang ng mga congressita at senador yan pag hindi na uso sub😅😅
A lesson from Indonesia to our Philippines brothers :
Don't buy Submarines from South Korea !
why?
Not like our crocodiles will allow us to buy submarines in the first place

It Free To Dream,

Don't waste money. Not a single country in Southeast Asia can properly operate submarines. When the US offers support, focus on building as many coast guard vessels as possible. The Philippine military is powerless against China, but the Philippine Coast Guard is useful. And don't have illusions about submarines. They're not the ultimate decisive weapon you imagine them to be. Don't envy Indonesia, Malaysia, or Thailand just because they have submarines. Their navies are just as amateurish as yours. They're not real navies, but more like naval cosplay at best.
Omg, sub without VLS is of little use
Those Torpedo Tube can fire Heavyweight Torpedo which can split any ship and Anti Ship missile
Sa France Scorpene mukhang maganda at subok kaso bakit ndi ginagamit ng france navy kahit pandagdag atleast yung S80 e2 lang gamit nila kung baga yung bansa nila e2 na pinaka malakas na submarine

Now due to this, Indonesian cannot even overhaul submarines they've got from Hanwha. This happens when you tried to short corner. That's not true, you only getting from Indonesian side, they didn't even cancel it but rather ignored it and went on with French sub. Submarines aren't cheap. They're very expensive to maintain and that's where Indonesia fallen into, their maintenance record is bad.
Why you love lying ? Why indonesia cancel 3 chang bogo class only $1,1B and build 2 scorpene $2,4 B and Soon Indonesia will buy another interim submarine and also indonesia will Repair 3 chang bogo to Naval cause Hanwa/DSME denied to fix their problematic chang bogo
@@ytn00b3Then where do you have to get it from, Indonesia operates it, of course Indonesia knows better the quality, the Minister of Defense has given conditions if you want to continue with the next batch, Korea must resolve this problem. A battery capacity that is too small will certainly reduce the performance of the submarine, but Korea ignored this condition so that Indonesia switched to French products and France was willing to increase the performance of the Cangbogo class after cutting the first steel from the 2 evolved scorpene. at PTPAL Indonesia
I really think PN has very well considered the Indonesian Navy Jang Bogo Class fiasco when studying the acquisition and technical specifications on their own submarine acquisition project. Regardless, PN stands benefitted in this issue
It's small sub without AIP, enchanced 209 napagasa sub is good, otherwise it won't be in operation. There's very aged 209 class sub that Indonesia is operating which had full overhauling with DSME done, 1 unfortunately sank during the drill mission and other 1 is still operating but due to its age its not safe enough to go full mission. Every submarines has issues - no submarines are perfect that is why making & operating submarine is very hard and expensive. Look at China and Japan, they have massive issues with their subs too. You think French and Turkish are perfect? they also went through hardships operating their subs.
