Great vlog. For 2024 I set out to elevate my skills especially with invisible zips and to tackle welt pockets. Pleased to say I succeeded but am aware you need to “use it or lose it” so I will continue in 2025. You have got me thinking about my word for 2025 🤔.
I also learned a few sewing lessons this year: first one would be to look at what I actually wear on a day to day basis and what are the outfits I tend to pick from the closet and what styles make me feel good and comfortable, and not make a garment that maybe looks elegant and sofisticated but I wouldn’t want to wear that much…:) another lesson would be to sew less items and take more time to learn how to do a very good job at every step; just like you I also want to find better quality fabrics and sew quality garments :)
I went through a very trying time at the end of October. I was misdiagnosed with cancer of the gallbladder and bile duct. Exactly 1 month later I had a procedure that proved I was cancer free. Yes I was relieved and super happy but that month had drained me emotionally and mentally. I put everything on a back burner and just enjoyed my sewing room and catching up on few things in sewing room. So I guess my word was enjoy. I did take week to catch up on some housework. Now for Christmas week I’m taking a sewing holiday and trying to learn to make a gore skirt. So my word is learn. The pattern looks simple but fit can give me a fit. I do need to have my gallbladder removed on January 14. So I’m sure I’ll be down a bit. However as soon as possible I’ll be in there.
My word this year will be ‘Zipper’. I am such a chicken on trying to put in a zipper in a garment. I’ve done bags but not clothing. Thanks for the inspiration.
Good Lessons. Yes, good fabric is key, yes, sew for the lifestyle you have, but it is nice to sew for special occasions like weddings, cruise vacations etc. to flex the old tailoring and couture skills. Old Burda patterns yes, I have had a subscription to the pattern magazines since the early 90's. Such a valuable resource. Even current issues of the magazine republish styles from many years ago, labeling them "Best of".
I noticed that Burda started doing ‘Best of’ this year which is such a great idea! I only wish the ‘Best of’ patterns would cover older ones, too - a lot of ‘Best of’ patterns that I’ve recognised were from 2010s or later🤔
1970 issue is a rare gem!🤩 I don’t think I’ve seen any older Burda than late 1980s for sale where I live… Would be very interesting to try a 1970 pattern🤗
The most comfortable and long lasting T-shirts I have are made from 100% cotton and weight about 300gsm. But it’s equally important to find fabric stores that carry good quality knit fabrics, extra points if they test their fabrics by washing/drying before selling!👍

I started sewing last week. My firt lesson was - don't be afraid to mess up the stich, you can undo it and try again.
Absolutely agree!💯🙌

I have a bunch of Burda magazines from the 1980s but my favorite dress is from a 1970 issue - good patterns don't get old 😊

Can you tell us a good fabric for t-shirt and dress

Thank you. What tee shirt pattern did you use? Or did you make your own.
The T-shirts are made using my self-drafted patterns🤗
