I saw this channel by accident and got hooked on all the great food. I have been pestering my Mom to make this chocolate cake since I watched this video. We had it last night for dessert and it was awesome. Mom didn't use the Nutella because my Father doesn't like hazelnuts, but this cake is really great just plain. Next time we have beef stew Mom promised she would try the crispy dumplings recipe. This channel rocks.
Interesting comment about jam and peanut butter. I worked in California in the 60s as a mother's help. Most favorite sandwich filling for lunch boxes was peanut butter and grape jelly jam. I still absolutely love it.Thankyou John for the memory

Hello John, I love cooking and making cakes, but every time I watch your videos and you mention cakes and custard, I have this vision of school dinners back in the late 60's and early 70's, infact to this day when I cook greens I remember the roast school dinners every other friday that I would have at my school.

This chocolate cake is so simple and easy to do. I made it today and it tasted lovely, moist on the inside and crispy on the outside and full of flavour. It’s a no fail recipe that is so versatile that it will now be my go-to cake recipe, loved it. One tweak I did was to warm the syrup and add a little hot water to the cocoa powder, as this gives the cocoa a better flavour, then mix them together, then put it in the egg mix. Delicious cake thanks John.

This brings back the days when I was a young boy growing up when my grandmother would make a cake like this for Sunday after Church meal. Well Done John.
I've made this absolutely delicious cake John! It was wonderful and it's now a cake I make when family is calling to see me!! I always get a lot of compliments!
I made this yesterday for dessert since I hadn’t baked in a while, I used Lyle’s Golden syrup since I could not find the bottle of corn syrup and topped the cake with biscoff cookie butter and the results were fantastic. Thank you Chef John. One important tip , look out for the baking time depending on your oven, mine got done at least 12 minutes earlier in a true convection oven although I had set it for 50 minutes but still kept an eye on it.

Everything of yours that I've made so far has been very well received by friends and family which has given me the confidence to be a bit creative with your recipes. I have just made this cake but added the orange and lemon elements from the easy orange and lemon cake to create a chocolate orange and lemon drizzle cake. On a separate subject...... I live in the Kent and was wondering if you had ever made/heard of a local dessert called Gypsy tart? This is something we used to have at school as kids and I would love to be able to make it. On paper, it's a very simple dish however very few people ever get it right. One for the future perhaps.

@@JohnKirkwoodProFoodHomemade I did this ages ago. I just made the roasted potato chips for dinner but had a little twist to it where i made green bananas the same way, so it was a potato & banana combo and salad on the side and later a hot cup of coffee to kick the cold away. Too cold over here

I saw this channel by accident and got hooked on all the great food. I have been pestering my Mom to make this chocolate cake since I watched this video. We had it last night for dessert and it was awesome. Mom didn't use the Nutella because my Father doesn't like hazelnuts, but this cake is really great just plain. Next time we have beef stew Mom promised she would try the crispy dumplings recipe. This channel rocks.

Interesting comment about jam and peanut butter. I worked in California in the 60s as a mother's help. Most favorite sandwich filling for lunch boxes was peanut butter and grape jelly jam. I still absolutely love it.Thankyou John for the memory

Hello John, I love cooking and making cakes, but every time I watch your videos and you mention cakes and custard, I have this vision of school dinners back in the late 60's and early 70's, infact to this day when I cook greens I remember the roast school dinners every other friday that I would have at my school.

This chocolate cake is so simple and easy to do. I made it today and it tasted lovely, moist on the inside and crispy on the outside and full of flavour. It’s a no fail recipe that is so versatile that it will now be my go-to cake recipe, loved it. One tweak I did was to warm the syrup and add a little hot water to the cocoa powder, as this gives the cocoa a better flavour, then mix them together, then put it in the egg mix. Delicious cake thanks John.

I made this yesterday for dessert since I hadn’t baked in a while, I used Lyle’s Golden syrup since I could not find the bottle of corn syrup and topped the cake with biscoff cookie butter and the results were fantastic. Thank you Chef John. One important tip , look out for the baking time depending on your oven, mine got done at least 12 minutes earlier in a true convection oven although I had set it for 50 minutes but still kept an eye on it.

Hi John, many thanks for inspiring an old boy like me to have a go at baking. Everything of yours that I've made so far has been very well received by friends and family which has given me the confidence to be a bit creative with your recipes. I have just made this cake but added the orange and lemon elements from the easy orange and lemon cake to create a chocolate orange and lemon drizzle cake. On a separate subject...... I live in the Kent and was wondering if you had ever made/heard of a local dessert called Gypsy tart? This is something we used to have at school as kids and I would love to be able to make it. On paper, it's a very simple dish however very few people ever get it right. One for the future perhaps.

FYI....mix a little cocoa powder in with the flour before you dust your pan...won't have any white flour on your chocolate cake.....
