I am currently building this helmet and would like to ask if you just used the wood burner on the horse hair comb to get it to look so good ...and thanks so much for the templates and video your work is amazing
It should be fine. 1 mm on the main body probably won't compromise the strength, specially not with the plume ridge supporting the middle. The cheek parts may be a little floppies but you could add wire and some 2mm foam to hide it on the inside if you needed to for rigidity.

@@MuchProps I will do that. BTW….. Before I have my 1st of probably many ‘senior moments’ that that are bound to occur while I attempt this, I have a few ?’s. 1. Is there a way for making the curves/rounded bits without buying a heat gun that I would only be using on this 1 project? 2. Have you made a spear and a shield from the same era and do you have a templates for the spear blade/shield? I’ve been searching for, and found a few spear and shield vids that seem adequate, but there doesn’t seem to be enough ‘detail’ shown in those vids like yours. They mention things that could be helpful, but they don’t show it. Also, even if I were so inclined to ‘burn in’ some of their ‘overtly detailed designs’, no1else bothered to mention the dangers about the toxic odors like you did.
@@ChelleD22 I will try to help: 1. The heat gun does help a lot but you should be able to do it without. You may notice the seamlines pull apart a little. The good thing about these types of helmets, you can cover any rough spots on the base helmet with details. 2. I have never made a spear or shield from that Era but there are lot of guys out there that have. Check Odin Makes, SKS, Punished Props, Lost Wax, Evil Ted and Cosplay Apprentice. All are super knowledgeable and might have something that would work. And an alternative to burning in, you could glue on stuff instead. You can buy precut letters at the hobby store or fill fondant molds with hot glue for details. I hate that others don't point out the safety issues

That's why I said it was custom. Taking some liberties with the design of the helmet rather than making it historically accurate is more fun for me. Lets me be a little more creative.
The kids in Sparta where taken from the age 6. And it is believed that they were under feed to promote them to steal them they were beat if they were cought. Others think they were feed the fight amount no more no less to promote growing taller and leaner rather than shorter and wider.

well glad I could help with the school project. I am a school teacher in my day job. I teach computers and also teach art to junior high kids. I've had several parents and students use this build for a class project. Glad to see these things put to good use. If you post to any social media I would love to be tagged in it to see what yall come up with.

I will do that.
@@ChelleD22 I will try to help:

I traced the templates for the helmet and I already see a way to ‘tweak’ the ‘mohawk’.
I caught on that the pattern, once traced onto the foam, has to be cut inside the boarder line.
However, I just wanted to be certain about 1of the dome quarters.
~~~~Am I right in presuming that the BACK Top is supposed to have a * and a capital R to let us know we have to flip it to make a 4th pc for the dome?
is the prop a one size fits all kinda thing or did you actually size it for your head?? i am a welder and im using your stencil to make this helmet out of steel but i just wanted to get the sizing right off of your pages in the pdf file! please can you let me know about this part so i can get started thankyou in advance. this is the first video i have seen from you and now im going to check them all out cause if they are as good as this im intrigued!
All of my templates are built to accommodate my head. I have a relatively large noggin, at about 24 inches around. You might have to make adjustments due to the different material. Don't know how well my template will work when making it out of steel. Would love to see it when you are don't though.
Awesome.
Thanks.
Fantastic helmet....what are the paints you use???
Metallic Luster by I believe DecoArt
hello, I have a head of 60 cm or 24 inches, but printing the templates was too small, what's wrong??
Check your print settings. Also what size paper are you printing on. I use standard American letter , which is 8.5 inches by 11 inches
GREAT VIDEO!! I’m now a new sub! I have never made anything like this - and now I am! Do you have this plan available to be cut on a laser cutter? I’ve seen a few others but I like this one the best. I may have to see if I can possibly get it into LightBurn.
I do not have it on a laser cutter but you are more than welcome to attempt to convert it. The plans are in the description below the video. Let me know how it goes.
Beautiful work! This inspires me!
Thank you! Let me know how it turns our if you make this one. I've seen a lot of these popping up recently and they have all been pretty awesome.
Bravissimo complimenti!!!
Grazie mille amico mio. Contento che ti piaccia.
Do you think its possible to makes this out of cardboard? Edit:Minus some of the details of course
It would be possible, don't know how round it would end up on the dome, since the pattern is meant for bendable foam. You could give it a try though
@@MuchProps thanks, yeah i will
This looks amazing and I am hopin to give this build a try... can i just ask how big a head this is made for? I have a stupidly large noggin and will be very sad if i don't make a mess of this and then find it doesn'y fit :(
My head is about 24 inches around
awesome job!!!! ilove it...
Thank you! I really like this build too.
The thracian helmet wich the spartans used had rounded eyes butt still a very nice prop
That's why I said it was custom. Taking some liberties with the design of the helmet rather than making it historically accurate is more fun for me. Lets me be a little more creative.
The kids in Sparta where taken from the age 6. And it is believed that they were under feed to promote them to steal them they were beat if they were cought. Others think they were feed the fight amount no more no less to promote growing taller and leaner rather than shorter and wider.
It's crazy the stuff they would do back in the day to get soldiers ready to fight. Those had to have been some of the fiercest warriors ever.
