    6,000 baht for 2 weeks is well away from “a good deal”, prices should be around 3k per month. Did you get insurance included? Don’t forget that driving is completely different here in Thailand, especially when your the one in a bike. The “rules” of the road aren’t what your used to in the UK. Watch out when approaching roundabouts, the rule of give way to the right and to those already in the roundabout don’t apply here, it’s whoever is bigger or braver goes first. If you’re ever unfortunate to have an accident whilst driving, it’s also a different procedure than the UK. Here, we have to call the insurance company, explain the situation and location, wait for the insurance representative to come out and get details, photos, etc. and then you’ll have to visit the police station and pay a 500 baht “fixed” fine. That’s if you have been given the 1st class insurance (same as fully comp in UK) with the rental of course!
    Anyway, good luck and be safe riding your bike around town.

    Enjoy the Honda ADV 150. I hope to buy the new Honda ADV 160 when I move over to Chiang Mai in November following my retirement. I know it can be dangerous on the roads over there but I have loved riding about in the city and countryside in different parts of Thailand on a scooter. So flexible and easy to park, weave through the traffic on a small bike and cost much less than bigger bike. I have watched your channel for years now and so glad and happy for you that you decided to make the correct choice of moving to Thailand 🇹🇭 Its a wonderful place. All the best Darren and I will be watching all your Thailand videos 😎

    Rentals price for two weeks should be about 4k tops , maybe a bit less

    • @tkilla1202
      @tkilla1202 12 дней назад +1

      What I've seen for decades has been 300/350 a day, and around 3500bt a month for scooters like that.

    • @willsmith39
      @willsmith39 12 дней назад

      @@tkilla1202So 10 days price and month price is the same ? Seems odd, I get discounts for longer hire but that seems counterintuitive.
      More fundamentally I'm not sure you're comparing like with like in terms of what he rented and the price you my mention. You seem to be saying that guy charged him more than double the going rate which would be a scam if true yes, I'm just not convinced you're right.

    • @tkilla1202
      @tkilla1202 12 дней назад

      @willsmith39 not at all, sorry not clear. If you rent BY the day, one price. If you rent by the month another price. So, I'd guess he's paying a "by the week" price, which if you look at the 300 day/3500 month price I quoted, might be around 1800bt a week?? ( Just averaging the prices differences) So 3600 for 2 weeks.

    • @willsmith39
      @willsmith39 11 дней назад

      @@tkilla1202 Sorry but that still makes no sense. Obviously no one is going to rent for two weeks for 3600 of they do a monthly for 3500. You just give it back after 2 weeks and save yourself 100 baht.
      I've rented motorcycles and mopeds a gazillion times in Thailand, I know the rates vary per time frame, per seasin and per location.
      I don't think he got ripped off renting the size of bike he did for the period he did during the high season in Pattaya. That's similar to what I paid last time for the same size bike.
      You could get a little Honda Scooby for as little as 100-120b a day if you were doing monthly rental in Patts in the quiet season.
      But that's not what he's doing here

    Hiring bikes ir cars. DJ's advice is off the charts. Always take photos or videos, with the boss, to show what scratches existed before you hire. Or, more basic, sign a form which has an image of the vehicle showing where bumps and bruises
    Exist👍

  • @cwinasia

    It's been lovely following your journey , tagged along with you after seeing you on Thairish times. If it's not overstepping you might consider jumping into the image adjustments and dealing your sharpness down to -2, it will make the image a bit more natural on the walk and talk, not as crispy ; ). Warmest Regards, C

    Totally agree, never, never, ever hand over your passport. Don't know if you've covered it and I've missed it but definitely get a Thai driving license for motorbikes. When touring you will come across numerous checkpoints and all will have different rules as to what is acceptable as a license e.g your UK one, International DL, Thai DL. If you've got a Thai DL it will just make things easier.

    Personally I’m a Honda man, having owned an old CBR600 which I wasn’t that struck on, two brand new CBF1000’s which I loved and a CB1100RS which I recently sold as both my hips are knackered!

    Been watching your videos on your recent move with interest. I've travelled to Thailand since the late 90's and lived in Bangkok 6-7yrs more recently. Like you I rode big bikes previously and figured I'd get one, but in BKK soon came to the realisation a smaller bike is much more usable. I ended up buying a Zoomer-X which I used as a runaround on a daily basis. I was about to upgrade to an Aerox when I left. I can see the attraction of a big bike on longer trips but always used an air conditioned car which is definitely more comfortable and much safer on Thai roads. Good Luck whatever you decide.
