There was a physician that I was acquainted with who owned these in the late Ninety's. I was able to sit and listen to them in a relatively poor listening room twenty-five years ago and they left an indelible impression...aurally and aesthetically.
Thank you for making this video. I heard them play years ago too. I like other types of speakers, but they are works of art and sound beautiful. Greetings from the Netherlands Limburg Maastricht. Peace and love and of course High-end. And above all, continue with High-end. 👌🏾👍🏾😉✌🏾😘
Midnight blue (Nachtblau Perlcolor - in German) is indeed a Porsche color. It was introduced in 1991 and is best known for the 928 GTS, which was built between 1992-1995.
Still my dream speaker!! but But I still love my 801f and 802f 80series 2 all the same. Essentially after some updates and upgraded tweeters 👍😎 Thanks for showing these beauties 😍
I wouldn't spend $60k on these. There's no way that they are worth that much money. They are ugly as well... Who wants a weird looking snail thing sitting in their room?
What a spectacular speaker. I had heard they were modelled on the human inner ear. Electrocompaniet Nemo Monobloc Amplifiers And Bowers & Wilkins Nautilus, I think they were made to match, hence their name. The B&W shop in worthing also still service some Nakamichi tape decks.
🤗 THANKS A MILLION …FERNANDO FOR YOUR VERY COMPLETE, INFORMATIVE AND INTERESTING 🧐 VIDEO ON THE NAUTILUS SPEAKERS …I HAVE WONDERED ABOUT THEM SINCE THEY FIRST CAME OUT 🧐 AND NOW I LOOK 👀 FORWARD TO HEARING THEM 🤩🤩 ….BINAURALLY …THE NEXT BEST THING TO BEING THERE 😍😍😍
I read an article maybe 6 months ago that someone purchased a pair of the speakers and placed them on each side of his front entrance. When the dealer arrived to set them up the owner told him he didn’t want them set up. His intent was to use them only as artwork in his main entrance. Pretty amazing if true.
I heard it on a utube vid, a bunch of guys from Texas who deal in high end equipment. They were setting up a pair and one told the story. I've heard it elswhere also
Thanks for this very informative video. Were you going to make a video of sound samples from these speakers? That would be great if you could post such a video. Thanks again.
@@SkyFiAudio I hear ya! Thanks for trying though. Did you like what you heard? Was the sound in any way fatiguing? Did you find instruments or male vocals lacking “body” or “heft,” if you know what I mean?
Give me these speakers and a set of mcintosh amps and the living room looks like a room from the Bioshock video game. Im so in love. Especially the paint is gorgeous!
A very impressive speaker and who cares about anyone else -sit in the sweet spot and enjoy. I thought these were much better than the 802 Nautilus etc because the tonality was just correct and it never had the Terrible port farting that is a B&W trademark after John Bowers died. The idea behind all drivers using the same material ensures uniform decay /resonance etc So without the port farting of the other Nautilus speakers they just sound better -perhaps the latest series has the port farting under control? Anyway a speaker for the refined listener. A test for port farting is Al Di Meola SACD Flesh on Flesh play that turned up and the bass notes blur and rhythm's become lost - anyway the latest AE 509 series use drivers all made of carbon including the tweeter so you can experience that uniformity of sound much cheaper than $60 k now
hello, is there a difference in bandwidth between the first versions of these speakers and the latest? because I see on some data sheets that it is sometimes marked that they go down to 25 hertz and on others I see marked 10 hertz. Thanks.
That waveguide design of the SST1 has been copied many times, not least by Bose. But I find the iteration by Technics to be quite ugly, aesthetically, and not nearly as impressive as the Nautilus. Also, it looks like both the tweeter and Woofer of the Technics shared the same enclosure, so a possibility for crosstalk and colouration of the tweeter, unless the tweeter was in its own sealed unit. Good concept though, and forward thinking on the part of the designers. But not a very ORGANIC aesthetic, unlike the Nautilus, which could be an Amonite with speaker drivers installed.
The most stunning looking pair of speakers ever made imo. But there is a contender on the horizon, from Monitor Audio no less, another Great British manufacturer 🇬🇧 they call them "HYPHN". Arguably equally stunning aesthetically. And sonically, they promise much. I would love to hear both speakers at some point, not having heard either, as yet. But personally, the Nautilus have the edge aesthetically, imo. There is just nothing else like them, or ever has been. I would mount them on isolated castors perhaps, to make them easier to move around. But then my concern would be that the tweeters and upper mid drivers would be too high in relation to your seating position, as they are already quite high to start with. I think I would need to build an elevated seat, on its own stage, not unlike a Regal Throne, but without all the gilting perhaps, as gilt would perhaps be a touch TOO pretentious. A black leather Lazyboy sat atop of two or three shipping pallets is more the way that I roll. But the only colour for the Nautilus imo, is the Midnight Blue, that colour is just perfect, and allows all the contours to catch the light and pop. Just beautiful!
With a price tag of £70k, and a lead time of two years, they are not really meant to sell quick. But they are nothing short of a statement piece, and would be VERY much appreciated in my listening room.
I have a pair of Genelec 1022B professional recording speakers made of a very high grade plastic just like these. Don’t ever dismiss the use of molded plastic for a speaker enclosure. Done correctly, there is no better material.
Your camera movements are still to fast paced. You need to learn to pan the camera at at extremely exaggerated slow movement. And stop waving the light or your hands in front of the camera. Nice job reviewing these speakers. Lots of great information. I can't wait to hear about listening impressions. I will stay tuned!!!
And worth every penny, as THEY ARE an almost flawless representation of form AND function being married together. A Masterpiece of useable artistic design.
I listened to this speaker a few years ago and it was magical and now i listened to other speakers its all meh and nothing is good enough. Wish i could afford it.

This was to speakers as the McLaren F1 was to cars...a true timeless classic

Love RUclips. Instant information! Indeed I remember seeing it on an occasional 928.
Amazing as usual! Thank you for the presentation.
A terrific video that plays to the unique strengths of your channel. A nice, early Christmas pleasure. Thank you and merry Christmas.
Many thanks!

Excellent. I really like your establishment, cars & hi-fi you can't go wrong
Breathtaking form. Legendary.
😳😮😭 These brings me tears of Joy!
I’ve never really dug the style of these things, but watching your video, I can finally appreciate what they’re going for and why folks dig them.
Lmao are you serious. I would get the just for those amazing looks regardless of sound

The "Nautilus" is a sea creature. If you look it up you will see the resemblance (though the creature is inverted compared to the speaker).
the shape does closely resemble the cochlea in the inner ear
dream,masterpiece..thank you.

Thanks for the feedback. Still finding my way but its so much fun to share.
Can't wait 🎧👍😁
My uncle had these or a version of these in the 1980's.... I used to just stare and marvel at them !
Damn! These speakers cost 90k a pair!
They should go low to 10hz so you don't need a subwoofer.
I read an article maybe 6 months ago that someone purchased a pair of the speakers and placed them on each side of his front entrance. When the dealer arrived to set them up the owner told him he didn’t want them set up. His intent was to use them only as artwork in his main entrance.

Amazing? Seems like that person has more money than brains.
My dream speakers. I have the B&W 702 S2's which are brilliant but the Nautilus .............!!!
Looks like something a Xenomorph would have in their living room.
Amazing
Thanks for this very informative video.

Its so hard to convey any of the sound over RUclips. Ive tried, even purchased a dummy head with built in mics, sounded mediocre at best.

Best color ever on a speaker. Wish I had the matching Porsche.
More elegant than I thought from photos at dealer sites. They look less imposing than B&W 80x Diamond series or common floorstanding towers.
yes, in person they are modest in size and not imposing like the 800s. Yes they stand out but not in a bad way.
very pretty reminds me of a TVR tuscan
From the sides they also remind of a runner dashing
Thanks to know they are always paired with an active crossover. I assume Linkwitz-Riley topology?
Uauuu Amazing Place
I love the clear vision and execution in their design. BTW, is that a Wadia CD Player on the left side? Another legend from the 90s.
The grey box is a Proceed player. Sister company of Levinson, both under Madrigal at the time.

Do these speakers have external crossovers???
hello, is there a difference in bandwidth between the first versions of these speakers and the latest? because I see on some data sheets that it is sometimes marked that they go down to 25 hertz and on others I see marked 10 hertz. Thanks.
I dont think the design ever changed. They probably just measured differently.
Do a video on the Magnepan Tympani speakers behind the B&Ws.
For sure, we have two pairs, perhaps Ill join them to make a huge wall panel.
@@SkyFiAudio Yes, please do a video on them. They were an important hi-end speaker in the 70's-80's.
😍😍😍
Are they for sale ?
Diggin the color of those B&W’s Fernando! KILLER
You can get them in any color you want.
Hi, Do you still have the speakers? Can I ask what the dimension of the tapered nautilus tubes are? Thanks. strange question I know!
Hi there, are you asking for their overall length?
@@SkyFiAudio not of the speaker, of the upper three tubes? But yes from the driver to the end of the tube. Total length.
Technics had made a similar concept speaker in the late 70s, although not exactly the same shape.
No way!
on display at MOMA, model SST1

Is he wearing audio gauntlets? 🤔
wasn't this thing in a movie with sigourney weaver?
haha, I know which one.
I thumbed up this video at 1:00

Agreed, stunning is the perfect description.

Wonder where these rank with the WAF ratings?
My wife would like the color, eight amplifiers not so much.
I would keep the amps out of sight, these deserve to shine alone.
What amplifier do people run with these speakers?
My guess is 8 monoblocks.
None after you pay for the speaker you cant afford any amp.
I guess the top model Accuphase preamplifier and power amplifier, and the Wadax Reference DAC
Ive seen a lot of Classe Monos, gonna try a few things including 4 naim NAP250s and 8 Jadis 845 monos.
Sweeeeeeeeeet
Those will sell quick. All Bowers tweeters have a Nautilus tube these day's

They sound amazing, but don't care for the look. Maybe a beach house.
Much more interested in the rest of your shop than those speakers.
