*I like the old style Echo Dot because it's small also **Newest.Technology**, gives out decent sound and doesn't take up a lot of shelf space if you want to put it on beam in the workshop or shed.*
Bought the Ecobee 3 this weekend and I love it! The motion sensor to me wins this over for me! Easy to install, but my house already had the 4-5 wires needed to just plug and play!
I love this thermostat, it's a big money saver and very convenient. I have an issue where the main unit thermostat reads 5 degrees hotter than the actual temperature, but tech support walked me through an offset. This stat is a must have.
I've had mine 5 months, and love it! Problem. The thermostat turned off, and won't turn back on. Blank screen pressed the power button, disconnected/re-connected the thermostat to the wall, reset circuit breakers. No luck. Any suggestions? This is the first problem so far.
Hey Ralph, great install and review of the Thermostat. I'm thinking on getting one soon to try it out. Thanks for demonstrating both website portals. The Ecobee3 looks like it has a higher iQ Lol... Thanks Ralph Best Regards; Willie🙋
There are 2 thermostat in my condo unit: 1 on the main floor and 1 in the basement. If I were to get the ecobee, will I need to replace both my thermostat or one will be just fine? If I replace one, what will happen to the 2nd thermostat? If I were to change the temperature in the 2nd thermostat, will it overwrite the ecobee?
Thanks for this review Ralph, I wanted to see if you are still happy with the Ecobee, after about 5 months of using it? Have you had any problems with it? I have read quite a few negative reviews on other websites about this product. I just wanted to see if you still recommend it or if your viewers have anything to say about it. Thanks for your time.
How do you install this thermostat if the screw holes in my wall are horizontal instead of vertical? There is a silver box type thing in the wall behind my thermostat, so the screw holes are unmovable. Would love any help you could provide!
I enjoy your videos. I'm thinking of changing to this thermostat because I have a Trane XL19i and would like to see how long my small compressor runs compared to my large compressor. I looked at sample reports and it looks like they show both stages running at the same time. I thought it was one or the other. Is there any enlightment you could offer?
VERY NICELY EXPLAINED VIDEO, THANK'S FOR SHARING TECHNOLOGY SURE IS CHANGING ALL THE TIME, ALWAY'S GOTTA KEEP UPDATED WITH THE FIELD THAT'S THE EXCITING PART NEVER GET BORED!!! THANK'S BROTHER FOR ANOTHER FINE VIDEO...
Do you have much experience using the Ecobee3 with heat pump systems? From what I've heard from other reviews, the Nest actually results in higher electric bills due to its inefficient use of aux heat. How would you rate the Ecobee3 for this kind of system? We have a 1,628 square foot ranch in Central PA where temps can range from below zero temps in the winter to triple digits in the summer.
I unfortunately have electric heating/ cooling units. 3 in fact. Located in the living room, master bedroom, and the third room which also vents into the 2nd bedroom. Do you know if I can connect this to these? Any input would be great! Thanks!
you said it splits the difference between the room with the thermostat and the sensor is there a setting that will allow it to run just on the sensor? we have a zone, the thermostat is on a wall in mud room, with no baseboard to heat that room, it controls that room a bedroom and a bathroom, I'd like to put the sensor in the bedroom and have it just go on that all the time. is that possible?
I would agree that the Ecobee has a much better application along with a trending display. It will be interesting to see if Honeywell responds on their site. I do like Honeywell's Prestige IAQ when coupled with delta T sensors to provide realtime and historical performance logs and warnings.
The prestige iaq is a great state, I use it when I don't have enough wires and need to add accessories like a humidifier. The only drawback is needing the red link modem which adds extra cost to the homeowner. Other than that the IAQ is a great stat
I am trying to compare the Ecobee3 to the Nest 3rd gen. I have done tons of research and have read a lot of people saying how much better the Ecobee3 is from experience. I'm just curious as to if anyone thinks maybe one would be smarter in one situation versus another. For example I live in a fairly small apartment and I like things that are simple. I think in that case I wouldn't need the Ecobee3 for its extra sensors since I won't need them spread throughout a full size house like where my parents live. I also like the simplicity of telling the Nest what I want and as the days progress it needs me less and less, as the Ecobee seems to use a lot of programming and going back into it to make sure things are 'just right.' What are everyone's thoughts on my specific situation and 'wants' from having used either thermostat? Any advise is appreciated! Thanks!
ComfortPlus Heating and Cooling I wish I would have discovered this stat sooner. It's not often I'm impressed with a product but when I am, I'm all over it.
Good review. I like it. Would work great in my in laws house where the t-stat is in the hall but everybody is normally in the living room on the other side of the house. I'm going to show them your review hoping to get them to bit, they are not into high tech things. They have a hunter tstat now and only god knows how old it is.
The nice part is it could solve a problem for them that they didn't know they could fix without spending a lot of money. I have some customers with that situation that I have offered zoning to but it was to expensive to do.
My in-laws do HVAC work. Our house is situated in such a way that we need a whole other unit for our upstairs area, so we may have two units servicing our home. I was told by them that I would need two thermostats, one for each unit, unless I had a sensor of some sort. My question is, if I have two units installed, do I only need one thermostat, and then place that sensor upstairs so that both units can somehow "communicate" with one another? I do not know the brand/type/anything else about the new units he's buying. Thank you!
+Lucas Hughes I feel like if I ran ductwork through my walls (it's an old home, 1896) upstairs, that would eliminate the need for a whole other unit, and I could just place that sensor upstairs, is that accurate?
I waited 13 minutes before you get to the Install part of the video, only to find you don't even show the actual wiring/mounting/install. Thanks for the review and info but booo for no install...
Awesome video! Thanks so much. And closed caption which I need. Thanks for taking the time to make it. Was going Nest but I like the separate room sensors...going to get me an Ecobee3.
I have Honeywell thermostat install right now but will be purchasing this system this weekend. I have the following wires/connections - red, white, green blue, yellow, orange and black along with these connections: w, y, g, o rc, r b and c. My question is will have any problems connecting this unit? Thanks in advance for any help.
Ok installed the Honeywell prestige iaq at my house and have loved it. I don't know how well you know the iaq stat but how would you compare it to this stat you have?
Hey buddy, I have 2 questions 1- How do I wired the Ecobee to a Honeywell steam humidifier, do I need a relay between? 2- The Ecobee power extender kit (pek) how that works, because I tough you need a Physical C wire to the thermostat; but looking at the Ecobee power extender kit (pek) instalation Video the only place it get the C wire connected is from the furnace side to the ecobee power extender kit (pek) but the thermostat still dosent have the C wire there. Thanks in advanced.
I can only help you answer question 2. If you use the PEK, you do not need to use a C wire on the thermostat itself. The four wires are sufficient for the thermostat.
Is anybody been successful connecting the Ecobee3 to the bridge/access point? I have a wire router, and some some wireless access points/bridge, and I have not been able to get Ecobee to connect to it. It will only work work on your wireless router only.
Will this control ac based on the outside temperature automatically? we have water pipe heating here in different zones and a main thermostat to control the ac in Wisconsin sometimes it can be 80 then 50 the next day it would be nice if i could set it to turn on the ac when it gets to 70F outside.
I just purchased and installed this, I don't like it.. my opinion is the nest is much much better, display is 100 times better, you can see the weather animation on the nest this one is basic you can't change it.. to me the nest is better..
T&N Services LLC. i like the old ways.....too keep it simple stupid...KISS...less keys to punch....and less calls from the homeowner asking what do i do now when they don't understand it.....hi tech is good i agree but there are problems that do come with it....enjoy your vids you rank at the top ....so ;;;;;keep'em coming''''''
I totally agree with you on keeping it simple. I would never install this at someone's house who I thought didn't understand technology, those types of people are getting harder to find nowadays. There is a market out there for these types of thermostats the nest has proved that. The nest became one of the best selling Stats out there and weren't even marketed through the contractor they went straight to the homeowner. Which showed everyone people want technology one their wall. By becoming one of the best selling stats out there I have decided to install the Ecobee on all my installs if I think the homeowner would want one. Of course I'll ask which type of tstat they want first I think 50% of those ask will want the Ecobee. I respect your choice on not wanting to use them but they really are something people want.

Have to agree. I replaced my Braeburn with an Ecobee3 in my house, works amazing. Love IFTTT integration and remote adjustment.
I've had mine 5 months, and love it! Problem. The thermostat turned off, and won't turn back on. Blank screen pressed the power button, disconnected/re-connected the thermostat to the wall, reset circuit breakers. No luck. Any suggestions? This is the first problem so far.
Excellent overview, I'm sold. In a home with 7 baseboard heating zones, how would the Ecobee3 setup work? One main unit and multiple sensors?
Nice video I have baseboard heat will this thermostat work with a red and white wire.
Hey Ralph, great install and review of the Thermostat. I'm thinking on getting one soon to try it out. Thanks for demonstrating both website portals. The Ecobee3 looks like it has a higher iQ Lol...
Thanks Ralph

Hey Ralph thanks for doing a review and walk threw looks like a good product
Great video T&N Services LLC. To bad they don't control modulating furnaces.

I'm considering getting a Ecobee. I wanted to know if this thermostat will lower the monthly cost of my electric bill?

Hello! Is there a menu in Russian language? Power supply 220V? Temperature measurement in C or F only? Thank you.
Will the ecobee do a recirculation mode on the fan so I can push the air from my stove around the house? (single wide home)
Great video Ralph! I my self am not a fan of nest, I've replaced so many failed generation 2. These were newly installed stats.
I've never been a fan of the nest either Emin, but they are out there. Maybe now if you find one bad you can replace it with the ecobee3
T&N Services LLC. I'm gonna definitely inform the owner of the company.

Very nice stat review. I have liked the si in the past. The 3 looks like it surpasses it.
talyn875 I'm pretty impressed with it Zack. It's a great stat
Great review Ralph. The alerts are great too. I use the low temperature alerts and the aux heat runtime alerts.
ComfortPlus Heating and Cooling I wish I would have discovered this stat sooner. It's not often I'm impressed with a product but when I am, I'm all over it.
Very good review on the eco bee Tstat Ralph. I like it.
You should get you one for your house Daniel
Very nice review Ralph!!! I'm liking the ecobee!!!
Thanks John, you should look into them
Thanks for the review i'm convinced, Nice Job Ralph
I have this stat and am installing a Goodman DSZC160481 AND GMVC960804CN. Will the get along? Not sure how much will be handles but the units?

It a great stat Stephen it's one you should really look into.
I will
Do you still have the Ecobee3? If so, are you still happy with it?

Have you had any installs with the Ecobee3 and a zoned system? I am interested in how that might have worked out.
+JDubAttacks my house is Zoned and I only have the one. My other Tstat is a Honeywell. I'm don't use the Ecobee3 for checking energy usage though
Idk what I did but my scheduler is all messed up and Idk how to set i back to a sunday through Monday schedule...Some help!
Nice tstat. I wonder if a commercial version is available.
They do have a commercial one available but it does look as nice as this one.
I waited 13 minutes before you get to the Install part of the video, only to find you don't even show the actual wiring/mounting/install. Thanks for the review and info but booo for no install...

Nice video... would someone know if this will work with a Windows 7 PC ? Thanks !
Hello. Does anyone know how this works with a heat pump?
I have Honeywell thermostat install right now but will be purchasing this system this weekend. I have the following wires/connections - red, white, green blue, yellow, orange and black along with these connections: w, y, g, o rc, r b and c. My question is will have any problems connecting this unit? Thanks in advance for any help.
+kanejr45 you should not have any problems at all wiring up the Ecobee3.
Thanks.
How come you run the fan "on" all the time and not auto? Does this have large impact on electric bill?
That really depends if you have an ECM furnace or not.
If you have an ECM blower, it can be as low as like 75w
Running the fan constantly keeps air moving in space tends to even out temperature in space.
Donald Vepley you don't keep the fan running all the time
Hey, can you make a video of the install if have Carrier Furnace that needs to wires switch to 24V? Thermostat have is ABCD Wire names. i
Very cool review Ralph I think I want one !!
If I had your money Harry I'd buy two of them.
That looks like a nice thermostat.
It's a very nice tstat. I had read anything bad about them any where
Ok installed the Honeywell prestige iaq at my house and have loved it. I don't know how well you know the iaq stat but how would you compare it to this stat you have?
The IAQ is a great stat, and I do use it. It's only draw back to me is needing the modem to make it WiFi.
Very nice review Ralph
Thanks Rob
Does it work with a humidifier?
great video Ralph.
Thanks Mike

Great review! Is there a Nest trade in program? :-).
Hey Rob the only trade in I know of is a hammer for the nest. I've got one you can borrow if you need it.
Is anybody been successful connecting the Ecobee3 to the bridge/access point? I have a wire router, and some some wireless access points/bridge, and I have not been able to get Ecobee to connect to it. It will only work work on your wireless router only.

***** Oh and nice review i subscribed by the way.
It will only see the indoor temperature, you may want to call them and suggest it to them.
Thanks for subscribing it means a lot
Which models of Honeywell are good?
What do you think of the Emerson Sensi Wi-Fi thermostat? Thanks.
Khyber Safi Emerson really ? Junk
Looking at installing one for a customer who travels a lot. How long did it take to install?
It doesn't take long at all, it walks you through setup. You will be impressed.
Thank you, sir. I'll slot myself an hour.
Thanks for video.. Focus issues though
nice stat, thanks for the review
It's a very nice Stat
Great review. I like it.
Easy to use and effective
The EcoBee is a learning thermostat.
Pronounced "eek-o-bee" not "echo bee" - source: Ecobee's marketing/installation videos
You skipped the whole installation part :(
Won't average. With just stay and sensor it will split the difference.
Just like the 6000. You need at least 3 points to average
I just purchased and installed this, I don't like it.. my opinion is the nest is much much better, display is 100 times better, you can see the weather animation on the nest this one is basic you can't change it.. to me the nest is better..
Focus man FOCUS!!!
Way to go skipping the whole installation process. Wasted 13 minutes, then it was magically installed on the wall without showing any of that.
good
All the technology in the world except auto focus.
One sided review. such a "fan boy". do the review..
5 years of college too learn the thing.......don't think so............
I'm confused why would you need 5 years of college

Hello. Does anyone know how this works with a heat pump?
+James P. Jones V yes it will do a heatpump
