Roding Valley lake 11-3-2024

  • My daily walk around Roding Valley nature reserve always brings something different to see. This morning's highlight was watching the resident Mute Swans nest building on one of the lake's islands. Last year the Pen sat on (presumably) infertile eggs for about two months, while the Cob spent more time than he should have chasing everything off of the lake! Let's hope that the Cob is a bit more attentive to the Pen this year. Rear just left of centre I spy an Egyptian goose. Video taken with a Samsung S22 @ 10 x optical zoom.

    A few years ago I visited the Swan sanctuary in Dorset. It was hatching time, and wonderful to be able to be so close, and as long as you were respectful, so were the swans.

      @gordonrix3853 Abbotsbury. That was the place, I've just remembered, and yes, it was lovely, surrounded by Reed marshes, so lots to see. I'd like to go back some day.
