Hammers are the most gorgeous type of shotgun, still having an echo of the old caps and flints era.
Very knowledgeable man! Wish I could have understood more than every third sentence; but just that bit was still a wealth of info and he certainly has a fine collection of old school ‘don’t make them like that anymore’ gorgeous hammer guns, love em’.
Having a collection like that is something too be proud of

I currently have a double barrel hammer gun from my grandfather (born in 1920), it’s a beautiful piece, probably the gun I am the proudest to own

Have have become a fool for vintage hammer guns since restoring an old Steven's 235 two years ago. That shotgun has brought me here. Came to me in unshootable condition. As of the last weekend (2021) of Special Whitewing season here in Texas I have shot 40+ ww doves with it.

I have two Stevens A&T 235's;. A 16 gauge with a set of 18.5 inch barrels (matching numbers to the gun, professionally cut and rebeaded), and a set of 30" barrels. Other one is a twelve gauge 30" barrels with nice case color on the receiver and checkered stock and forearm. Both take rabbits and varmints every year. My absolute favorite guns!
My second time watching this video on these older English shotguns. They're just a work of art. I just love them to death I only have one so far now left I love to have a few more
Since then i have purchased 2 more. I am getting a 1879 lifter hammer remington soon. It is very very rare, only about a 100 were made of the 1879 lifter with the deeley edge forearm from what i read online.I cant wait...I will then have a total of 3. There are addicting

just semi restored /deep cleaned my recent perchase a circa 1910 midland gun company hammer gun a thing of beauty. taking it up the clay ground tomorrow and going to enjoy some nice light 24g clay loads can't wait

Most all of those guns were in better condition than mine. I’ve got a Neumann Bros 12 ga. ‘The Interchangeable’. Finish a bit rough, but condition reasonable. Good lockup and bore condition. Surface rust and dents/scores in stock. Quite elaborate engraving in metal and stock. I hope I’m able to enjoy firearms when I’m his age.

Good prices. If I were there and could bring back to the U.S., I would take that whole table at once. I do love back-actions, but every time I find a good gun for sale, it ends up being another bar-lock, and I'm not sure why this always happens to me, other than it being a curse placed long ago. I will have to visit this shop the next time I'm there. Wish I had known when this video was made, as I was there at the time.
Just acquired a A Nester of Limerick , going to load up some light load black powder substitute and see what it can do . Smiles galore 😁 I bet .

I've been a restorer, avid reloader and an "aficionado" of surplus military rifles since 2000. But really just getting into these old hammer guns with real enthusiasm.
Your post is in the minority of the view of most shotgunners for sure. It's awesome to read a post from someone who actually shoots these old guns. Folks like you trailblaze through the mounds of BS so folks like me get a real assessment of these old guns. I'm getting a clearer image of just how much myth and misconception there is about these old hammer guns. It's the people that actually have experience with them that should be posting about them. Not someone who heard something from someone somewhere sometime in the past.

@@rodsvintagesxschannel.3095 Absolutely to the last sentence! I am going to research the Sherman Bell findings now that you pointed me in that direction. There is a very good article that was published by Midway USA on the integrity of Damascus and twist steel barrels that I read a few years back and came across it again a few days ago which states exactly what you said. The overhead shows a picture of a ruptured barrel. Reading down the article however shows that this was a purposeful overcharge, which in the several twist and Damascus steel barrels they tested was the only way they could destroy any of the barrels.

I have a rebuilt Stevens 235 that encouraged me into this endeavor and a American Arms double I am rebuilding right now. But I am really wanting one of these Damascus or twist shotguns to shoot white wings and mourning doves with!!!!

@@rodsvintagesxschannel.3095 I've been shooting RSTs 2 1/2 falcon shells out of the Stevens. Then reloaded these hulls with Hodgons 2 1/2 specs. What have you been using through your shotguns?

@@Dorkyorcy I believe all used guns sold commercially in Britain must be reproofed.
In the USA laminated barrel shotguns are legally not guns, and no FFL is needed. Can be shipped directly to your place. This is how I bought my 1892 16 ga Richards.
My grandpa left me at 1890 to 1915 era acme double barrel double trigger Damascus what does it take to shoot Damascus barrel shotguns safely or can it be done or are they just wall hangers
You inspect the barrells for deep rust. If rusted badly you cannot safely shoot. Look at the lockup
and if its tight with no looseness you can safely shoot black powder shells

I have a jj weston 12 gauge double barrel with exposed hammers, I need a stock for, any one know where I can get a stock?

@@altonlynch5464 Otherwise known as a "side lever". Just Google for stock makers in your area.
@@wholeNwon yeah, that came up with a bunch of pawn shops, but gun smith produced results. But that's no exactly what I wanted. If i could get just the stock, I have an old navy man that can put it together for next to nothing.
Check out a shooting club in your area. I imagine that’s a good place to go to find someone who can get you what you need.
@@johnhicks6367 I need a butt for a 20 gauge fox double barrel and I tried the shooting club they said, they couldn't even order one. I could use the spring that kicks the shells out too. As for the JJ weston, I gave it to and old man that has Parkinson's now and is in nursing home. I'll have to go see his wife. to see if she still has it.

I dunno about that, I was just watching a RUclips video about old shotguns, 50+ years, blowing up and causing injuries to the shooter and those around. Something about metal fatigue accelerated by the corrosive action of shotgun powder.

Okay, I'm willing to concede that because of his age and his access to those items, he just might be a very knowledgeable man on the subject, but I can't understand a word that's coming out of his mouth, and putting on the closed captioning makes it worse!!!!
Unfortunately, I only have one double barrel shotgun and it's an older black powder unit from Belgium in poor condition.
I intend on fixing all the little things that are too way too rough, broken or simply missing and will be duplicating a pair of barrels to shoot modern ammo.
