    About Euro Truck Simulator 2
    Euro Truck Simulator 2 is a vehicle simulation game developed and published by SCS Software for Microsoft Windows, Linux, and macOS and was initially released as open development on 19 October 2012. The game is a direct sequel to the 2008 game Euro Truck Simulator and it is the second video game in the Truck Simulator series. The player can drive one of a choice of articulated trucks across a depiction of Europe, picking up cargo from various locations and delivering it. As the game progresses, it is possible for the player to buy more vehicles and depots, as well as hire other drivers to work for them.
    The game has sold over 5 million units on Steam as of July 2019, according to the metrics website Steam Spy.

    I'm actually quite surprised that the Allison is faster on acceleration on even ground.
    But then again, As you were on Automatic you cant skip gears (Thuogh I'm not sure can you skip gears on modern trucks)
    I drive a little bit older 36 ton dump truck, with only 460hp (Dont remember torque)
    And my usual shift patterns are
    Empty:
    3high-5low-7low-8low-8high. In ETS terms it would be
    6-9-13-15-16
    Loaded:
    2high-4low-5high-6high-7low-7high-8low-8high In ETS terms

      Gearbox behaviour in ETS isn't that good, but yes, autos can skip gears... They do it badly and this is why most drivers hate them. Allison is faster on level ground because although it's weaker in a general sense, there's no loss of momentum in the gear changes. This is why the dual clutch ishift system is so good.

    Doesn't the Allison gearbox come with a torque converter? That should permit for higher rpm at low speed by allowing the engine to run faster than the drivetrain. I have a feeling that this behaviour is not 100% realistically implemented in ETS2.
    I have driven a truck with 6 speed + torque converter in real life and from that experience I would say the torque converter can make up for missing crawler gears/low range in tricky uphill situations

    • @jakeslay9180
      @jakeslay9180 4 года назад +32

      Even with a torque converter on a 6 speed and you were to lock or unlock it in any given gear it would still be very hard to get up a hill with 40 tons compared to a transmission that has Hi Lo and a Splitter, because it’s either slipping or the gear is too tall.
      The Auto transmission will be good for different applications, but when you are hauling some weight, you’ll always have more control with your Manual/Standard Transmission.

    Fuel consumption is also interesting for the decision making. More gears allow you to drive the engine at a very efficient RPM at any speed(even some cars with automatic transmission have up to 9 gears). However, I expect that even the 6speed allows efficient driving for the speeds in typical scenarios (highway and country roads).

      Nope.
      The less number of gears you have - the less flexibility for everything you do have.

    I didn't like the 6 speed. It's not bad if you have no load, but if you have at least some load, the 12-18 speeds are ideal. You also get that nice downshift at wide open throttle once going at speed, and it gives a nice push. When climbing up ramps, it always keeps the truck in the powerband. The 6 speed is very bad for those purposes, and the driving dynamics on the highway.

    14 speed gearboxes are designed for heavier cargo, that’s also another reason why it takes a while for it to get up to speed then the 6 speed gearbox, the 6 speed only has 6 gears while the 14 speed has 14 gears, with lighter cargo the 6 speed can easily get up to speed very quickly because it has less gears, to go through but with heavier cargo the 6 speed is very slow and can’t really handle it as much as the 14 speed can. Because the 14 speed kicks a bit more power to the engine then the 6 speed.
    I may be wrong to some extent and correct to some extent.

      I think the main Problem is that the games automatic transmission doesn't skip gears like a real person would. (With light load you would maybe start in 3rd gear, then go 5-7-9-11-13-14) The engine has a useable RPM-Range, and an optimal power RPM. With 14 gears you are more likely to find a gear that is close to that optimal RPM at a given speed.

    On paper, the 6 gearbox looks weak in every aspect (except from topspeed, with no-, or light-load), so it's a total surprise, that it's even usable for 30T+ ?!?

    Allison can be just as good as the 14 speeder, but the default final gear ratio is waaaay too small. I've done heavy hauls with it, but changed final drive to a shorter 4.8 instead of defalut 3.91. I like the allision because i have to shift less from the paddles, and engine braking is smoother, but bigger gear gaps make it hard to accelerate uphills. However i've modified it to have 8 gears and the ratios of ZF8HP gearboxes used in cars and now it has the best of both 14 and 6 speed

    • @PropperNaughtyGeezer
      @PropperNaughtyGeezer 10 месяцев назад

      Bigger Gear gaps. The Allison has a hydraulik torque converter. The translation between the 6 gears is again 2.3-1.2 infinitely variable (instead of a split gear) until the converter lockup clutch closes. Of course I don't know if this is simulated in the game.

    test is completely done wrong: in a gearbox with splitted gears as the 14 speed is, you don't shift through every gear (what would be half a gear in fact). at older trucks, you had a lever or button on the shifter, if you wanted to use the splitted gears.
    you used them only if your truck struggled.
    in your test, you shift the 14speed through every (half) gear, what is absolutely unnecessary... if you shifted with the wheel, it is no problem to shift 2 or 3 times "in one go" before the truck takes on gas (did that in the simulator, too, to get a somehow realistic driving experience)... try it with this next time. the least thing you should do, is using the ingame autoshift... it is horrible.
