I have a 445 with turf tires. I added a ballast box to the 3pt and fill it with gravel. I have plowed up to 8" of snow and never needed chains. They are great little tractors when set up properly.
@craigdiehm3017 I would imagine a box on a 3 point hitch sits far enough past the rear axle to really leverage the weight you put in. Keep that old machine running man! Thanks for watching! Please like, subscribe and ring the bell😊
@wilfredjones3008 Yes, have them now. The problem with those is that my tires are 14" wide. No one makes chains to fit that wide, closest is 12". My hope is when I go fit them, there's enough width to still hang over the sidewall. We'll see. I'll do a video on that. We are supposed to have a more severe winter, including snow this year. Thanks for watching! Please like, subscribe, ring the bell if you already haven't 😊
You guys got more snow than us up North. I have an older gravely ride on I fixed up for my 11 yr old son. It has 48" blower and 20 hp kohler. I adapted my hitch set up to hold some gym weights. I have 200 lbs on it now. Chains are a must. Skinny tires are better for snow as well. Your feet are going to get cold and wet. Proper winter atire is important when sitting on a tractor with no cab. That machine should push good when all set up. Good luck on your endeavor.
@tjs_welding_and_fabrication Hey, I love old gravely's! I appreciate you sharing your thoughts. When we made the video, we were quickly running out of daylight & it was sleeting heavily. Nature was not on our side! Look for a future video where I fit my new chains, and modify the plow skids so as to not scratch the asphalt. Thanks for watching! Please like, subscribe if you already haven't 😊
I was going to say to let air out of your tires to get more traction but you have filled them you can get the strap on type if you don’t want to put steel chains on I’ve used ratchet straps with square stock run the straps through them cut them down to just smaller width than you tire several run looping through the wheel and adding each one and securing . Works great
@daleotto5748 Great ideas ! I typically run @5psi in the rear & 8 in the front. Stay tuned for my future video in this series where I install my new chains & reveal where I bought them, best price / selection🙂 Please like, subscribe and help us grow!
I would recommend getting a second set of wheels and installing a set of ag tires on the spare wheels (avoid r4 tires the tread compound is too hard reducing traction) and liquid ballast these ones for snow removal /dirt work... Keep the turf tires for mowing or when running tire chains
Yes, I considered that until I priced a set of used wheels and new ag / V cut tires😳😢 So, I'm going to try chains, which just came in, also modify my plow skids for less drag when lowered. Thanks for watching, please like, subscribe and help us grow our channel😊
Well that went like I expected. Thanks for filming the fail. Loaded tires are a good start, do not get AG tires! With chains and weights you’ll be pulling out cars. The AG tires won’t give you enough tread contact to be worth the investment, they are better in mud. I’m glad it started and it was under a tarp.
@loutoolguy2644 Thanks man, so I knew ahead of time that I needed chains & a rear weight bar. But it rarely snows enough in my area to use the plow. 4 times in the last 7 years to be exact. We got a late start that day & it was sleeting big time adding a top layer of wet ice. In the interim, I've ordered chains and they arrived yesterday. Also, overnight we had more snowfall. Stay tuned😉
Yep it just doesn’t snow much these days. My 318 has AG tires and about 400lbs of ballast I can go down the driveway but coming back up is difficult. I didn’t get ready for snow this year. If I add chains (I own) and put on my loaded turf tires I’ll be good to go then it will stop snowing 🤣. My 430 has a loader on it but no cab so it is parked for winter. If we get a heavy snow I’ll bust out the X748 with a snow blower 👍.
@@loutoolguy2644I never have traction issues with my ag tires even in 2ft snow drifts but my tires are liquid ballasted to 75-80% but are only 23x10.50-12s and weight 80+lbs apiece not including wheel weights I leave about 1inch of snow to be packed into my gravel driveway the first 2-3 snow storms then I lower the cutting edge to 1/2 inch for the rest of the winter I actually texture the drive after clearing by towing an ag tire packer over the snow in my driveway giving traction strips throughout my driveway
Yea chains, and as much weight as you can. If you add a 3-point like I did to my 420, you can add a loaded ballast box for this kind of work. I like ribbed front tires as they steer better in slick conditions especially if they are liquid filled. The guys up North use a special type of chain that is more aggressive than most chains and they seem to work great on ice. I'm sure if you go extreme with the weight, you will be happy though. Too bad you don't have a shed for that nice looking 430.
@SF-fm7ov Hi, good recommendations! - because we rarely get any appreciable snowfall in our area, it's one of those things that I would not have any use for the other 98% of the time. I did buy chains, have them now. Look for the video where I fit them on. I do have a nice shop & shed but they are full of other stuff for now. Believe me, that tractor lives a charmed life - I promise😉 Thanks for watching! please like, subscribe, ring the bell - if you already haven't 😀
@Harold-c6e - I considered that and looked into spare set of used wheels/ new ag tires and was really expensive. I now have chains and will fit them on in a future video. Thanks for commenting! Please like, subscribe and help us grow!

@ToddsHouseofSpeed-uq5sp that's the key. Having the weight set back on the 3pt is what makes it so effective.
I added snow tires and chains lite snow or wet worked like a charm

Narrower back tires with chains will make a big difference

When you push snow angle your blade and roll it ,that will work much better 👍
@siriustraveler7083 Hi - do you mean sideways angle?

You need bar lug tires with tire chains
