It doesn't matter how many times you listen to this live performance, it blows you away every time. It's probably the greatest live performance of all time.

That was one of the greatest performances ever from anyone. Mark Knopfler was untouchable during this time. Try Tunnel of Love from the Alchemy concert next.
About the only thing close to this might be Peter Gabriel's In Your Eyes Secret World Tour performance.
And drums by Mark (I think it's mark) tell me if am wrong I think might be wrong on that Williams . Top drummer

The whole band were on fire, Terry Williams on the drums was world class!
It is one of the great live shows, I was 18, just, and I was there!
I think I appreciate it more now than at the time, 39 years later and its still superb

This video gets me moving and grooving even if I'm sitting on my couch. Mark Knopfler and Dire Straits at the absolute top of their game. I liked Dire Straits when I was younger but they weren't any where near my favourite group. But now I'm older I have this down as the best live performance I have ever seen (on video). There is even one bit where Mark appears to not be completely satisfied with his own playing but it sounded just as amazing at that moment as it did the rest of the way through. Nice reaction video too. Glad you liked the live performance too.

Dire Straits are on of the only live shows where I felt that I got more than my monies worth. They had everyone up out of their seat and dancing and singing with them.
Those guys love being on the stage, they're having a great time! I wish I could of been there!

I absolutely love watching the faces of new listeners to this performance!! Anyone who doesn't get chills watching and listening to this video is dead inside. I only wish they'd had a split screen throughout the performance with one camera full time on Terry Williams. To this day I still can't decide who was more amazing, Mark or Terry. Great "reaction"!!!

If you like this, you need to hear some Chet Adkins. I suggest something from his RCA years...maybe "Snowbird". The lead guitarist/singer of this band (Mark Knopfler) is almost exclusively influenced by Chet. That really bouncy, happy, dancy guitar sound is all Chet.

By the way, it's "Dire" to rhyme with "Fire". 'Dire' means bad or serious, Dire Straits means kinda desperate. Maybe it's a reference to being broke (which is what they were when the band was formed).
