I have all of his albums and 45s and other things like that. One thing you said Nolan that Michael Jackson is the king of Adlibs. If you saw James Brown, it is prime, he would know James Brown is really the king of Adlibs. Michael has said numerous times that James Brown has influenced him more than any other artist. He said that on TV on the BET awards in 2003 when they gave Mr. Brown a lifetime achievement award, and Michael gave the speech, and he also said that at Mr. Brown’s funeral in 2006 in Augusta, Georgia. I was there with my wife.
James Brown was considers a better vocalist than people gave him credit for, good vocalist of that generation acknowledged the fact the James was a good vocalist.
I’ve watched many performances of not only him but this song specifically and this is by far the best arrangement he does solo, second is the duet with Pavarotti! And Beyonce used to leave the stage sweating before she started rapping😆

James Brown has been performing since the 50s. He had many performances prior to this one and they all top-notch. So you can’t just assume the first one you see is the best. Watch 10 of his performances throughout the decades before you do anything the best in your personal opinion.
You clearly don’t know who James Brown was. You watch one performance and you say he’s not renown for his vocals. He can sing R&B, blues, funk and opera. The man has a wide vocal style range, unlike today’s singers.
