Good for you Denys. Pilot Blog was my favourite chanel, because we could see what the pilot profession actually was about and your easy going demenour was very appreciated. I hope to see you in the air again!
So happy to see this. I had the chance to fly as a passenger in a glider, and I fell in love with it. I think I love it more so than powered flight even.
When aviation starts in Ukraine again you should have glider club tours of Ukraine. I'd love to come and participate. I'd love to hear about the old Soviet DOSAFF.
When I was 18 I started learning as a glider pilot. Got my license before my driver license. Unfortunately, I had to stop as it consumed too much time. Now, some 35 years later, I still see as most beautiful experience.
Hi captain! Very happy to see you flying anytime! Really miss your old flying videos! Thank you for making this awesome video captain, it was a very different and a unique experience! Stay awesome Captain! Have a nice day! 👍😊
I love the control feel and harmony of the LS4. The feeling was amazing when I lifted off for the first time (from winch). It felt more like a video game than a real aircraft. I rarely fly it as the cockpit is uncomfortable for me. Some love it and some hate it in about 50/50 ratio. Mostly I fly the Ka 6E and it's like a wooden version of the LS4 when it comes to controls. I once had a flight in a K 8b without ASI. I flew about 3 hours without it since I was already up. It that glider it's about 5 times less of an issue than in the LS4.
Thanks for a relaxing video! Got my PPL 1977 and dropped it 1985, made a "fun flight" 5 years ago, but think Your flying and landings were perfect. Did try a sail plane flight, in the back seat, once and the silence was great, just a soft wind sound. A story I heard: A sailing plane was about to be pushed into its hangar. One guy at each wingtip. One of the guys looked a the wrong wing and they banged into the doorway. "Stopp, a long time ago" he shouted.....
Great up there in the sky, Denys, nice video, thank you. Hopefully, you can go gliding again soon. The weather here (UK) is absolutely atrocious again, really chucking it down 🌧️and high winds!
Very nice. Thanks for the flights. Pretty area. As a new Private Pilot single engine. I went to gliders. Flew them for a while. Enjoyed it. Haven’t done it for a long time now. Enjoy. And you did get some practice in.
in our club (LJCL) we learned to fly (Blanik) without air speed indication, to learn to set a proper glide angle fo air speed 80km/h....from my side that was a rely good thing to start with. And of course instructor in back had airspeed indicator uncovered....
Hi Denis, nice to see you flying under the beautifull skies of Mansoque and provence, i grew up not so far away...The next time you go there maybe you can make a stop at Saint rambert D'Albon we got a nice oldplane collection over there called Aérorétro, don't hesitate to make a stop!! Have a nice day!
This was so cool to watch, I've watched gliders from afar all my life but never seen this view from the cockpit. It's still something of a mystery to me how you bring them in to land on a perfect descent without power, it's like magic!
Obviously it needs some practicing, but it isn't too hard. Half of the secret is to fly that half rectangle before landing (downwind, base, final). There one can see the airfield early and adjust the path to it for a good fit. For example, if you're too high, fly a longer downwind. On high headwind, keep downwind short. The other half of the secret is this blue lever, the airbrakes. They allow to vary sinking in a very wide range, while keeping forward speed. This way one can land pretty exactly where expected.
Hmm. I see (hear) a thermal between 20:50 and 21:20 as well as between 21:50 and 22:10, more than 1 m/s strong. Perhaps we have a distinct idea of what "weather really not good" is 🙂
Still a better golf kart than China! Shame, almost too good a day, but you must've clocked a good hour with some interesting conditions, every day's a school day!
Great to hear you're a serious fan of gliding Denys. I watch your Ukraine blogs every day without fail and recall a long time ago that you had mentioned an interest in gliding (was it from Hostomel?). I gave up flying real gliders a couple of years ago but have had tremendous fun flying tasks in Condor VR. I've also enjoyed making RUclips videos where I ramble on about tasks that have stayed in my memory (my Silver was done when most us didn't have GPS Navaids and without ever having used a map before without a mentor so it really felt like we were taking a flight into the unknown). ruclips.net/video/nwnO8xYiVuQ/видео.html recalls my K8 distance flight some 30+ yeas ago. Happy days! P.S. I used to regularly do flights with both ASI and altimeter blanked off (and a safety pilot in the back seat). I found I very quickly got to like having no instruments and flew surprisingly well without them. The height thing is all a matter of angles to the landing strip, and the speed thing falls into three ranges (slow, normal, fast) and in a not too temperamental plane like the K21 you can feel when you're getting too slow, and for too fast on approach there's always more airbrake to get the angle looking right and the plane more settled. I flew model glider before fullsize and I think that helped (I'm now flying them again, along with powered models, in my old age!)
I haven't watched other Aero tow videos but I'm wondering why the landing gear isn't raised earlier. I appreciate you need to be prepared to return to the runway if you're unexpectedly disconnected from the aircraft but I would have thought raising the gear at something 1000ft might be appropriate? Perhaps, when on Aero tow, you're supposed to give all your attention to your alignment with the tow aircraft and it's considered "bad form" to be doing other non essential actions?
The front one is the plane (powered) which tows the glider (unpowered) into the air and then the glider is released to glide freely - not sure if I understood your question?
This is a quite expensive hobby in the US average price is around $100 an hour after getting the license which is not sure but around 10 grand... youtube pays this well ?? I do have a decent job but couldn't afford 3-4 hours flying on a regular basis.... not that I want to
@@NixUgriBugri I pay 700 € for unlimited flights in Europe that includes winch launches. I typically fly around 30 hours per year so that makes it about 25 $ per hour. 100 $ per hour must be at an elitist club or with a commercial operation. But at this place where Denys is flying it certainly costs something much closer to those prices. Golf carts and all...
@@anttiruo I just looked up listed prices around where I live and it was $60-100 per hour no idea if those are elit or average prices .... no idea what planes or what else included etc....
@@NixUgriBugri some clubs have a pricing structure which favours those that fly a lot like in the case of my club. We also have a 10 hour package which costs 600 € so in that case you'd be paying 60 € per hour. On top of those prices you need to pay a 50 € yearly membership fee.
It largely depends on the type of club. There are clubs where you have a towing plane, an employee for flying that, a paid gardener for mowing the airfield, maintenance done by professionals, and so on. The other end of the spectrum are clubs where primary starting means is a winch and everything is done by club members, including maintenance and repairs. Yes, this means a full day of presence for every flight, but it's cheaper than owning a car. Like $5 for a winch start and $10/hour for a single-seater. Obviously I prefer the latter. Gliding is a sport which should be done with love, not money.

Gliding is awesome, teaches you so much about weather, physics, landscape. I've done some 6 hour hang glider flights, felt like 1 hour, very zen!
do gliders have no engines and are just using the force of the air?

Thanks Denys, enjoyed that, a nice break from the bloody war.
Thats Awesome. Glad to see you back in the sky Captain
Waiting for the new season. Thanks for the video and wishing you a very good gliding season!
it really nice seeing you fly again.Ive been watching your video for more than 3 years
Gotta feel like the purest form of aviating.
Denys totally rocks the glider pilot hat
Really Cool mate.
When i was 12 and in the air cadet, had the chance to fly passenger on a glider. Was a great expérience.
That’s so great to see you in a glider. It’s my favorite activity
I’ve flown the Towing plane (KP) This Summer in Puimoisson ! Nice to see you flown in Vinon, love the region !! Thank for sharing your experience 😍
Let’s go🎉 new video
Absolutely fascinating! I'm looking forward to more! Thank you for sharing this with us!

@traumflug Thanks for the explanation, very succinct and informative! If I didn't have a nagging fear of flying I might want to try it myself!
Thanks for sharing the "inside" view Denys.
I know how essential the Vario is, but that continuous beeping is so annoying!
Lets go captain!!
If it's windy seems like you should be looking for a drop off near the lift on the windward slopes.
You need to come sit in West Texas and AX this Spring.

any plans to return to the commercial aviation?
Say useless one last time...
For me it looked nice and probably for most of your viewership as well.

In some gliders the coupler for the tow is fixed on the landing gear. You can bring it up earliest after decoupling.
Will you ever go back to the airlines?
You flying most of the time to fast in a thermal. I think 80-90 kmh with a smaller radius is good for a one seater
Did you do the training in France or else where ? If in France you did exams in English or in French ?
My hands are sweating lol
I have one question , why two gliders are tied with a rope at takeoff ?
The front one is the plane (powered) which tows the glider (unpowered) into the air and then the glider is released to glide freely - not sure if I understood your question?
@thehillsidegardener3961 That's what I was asking . Thanks 👍
