I do not agree with this classification and if you put Jethro Full and Pink Floyd that belong to progressive rock so you are missing several great English bands like YES, Genesis and Gentle Giant . Cheers from Lisbon 🇵🇹

I was so happy when the Moody Blues came up! They where so popular in there time that its hard to imagine why they didnt have the staying power as the Who did for excample.

Wow, lucky enough to have seen 13 of those bands, 14 if I included the Page/ Plant your a few years back. Tull I only saw an acoustic tour, but still amazing at a small venue in Edmonton. Fleetwood Mac, I saw the Rumors your. I'm grateful to have seen what I have. Of that, I've seen The Who the most. On another note, I own albums by every band on that chart. Thanks

YES is one of my favorite bands. What information do you have about YES's performance on the Billboard Hot 100™? It's only natural that a band with YES's level of experimentation wouldn't perform well on the charts.
I was expecting to see Uriah Heep. I would think a band with a 50plus year history and 40plus million album sales, should be classified as successful. Also, Supertramp and Yes we’re kind of good too…. I think.
Most if not all of these bands were more known more for their albums which would change the rankings I think. The Beatles would still be #1 and the Stones would probably be #2 but bands like Zep and Floyd would probably rank higher than they did.
Hard to consider Fleetwood Mac a British band. The band started in the UK but their most popular era and all the video coverage is from the band's golden age in the US. At best say they were a British/American band.

Where is Yes, Asia, Foreigner, ELO, Wings, Oasis, Duran Duran & Depeche Mode?? #20 Clash had only 11 points and I'm pretty sure most if not all of these bands all had at least 11 points. And, don't tell me Foreigner isn't British if Fleetwood Mac is British. And, don't tell me Duran Duran & Depeche Mode are not rock if The Cure & Tears For Fears are rock. To commenters who are complaining about U2, they are Irish.
Fleetwood Mac was formed in London by Peter Green, Jeremy Spencer, Mick Fleetwood and John McVie, all British. The Americans came later, right? Lindsey Buckingham, Stevie Nicks, Bob Welch and others. I think the group deserves to be on the list. Thanks for commenting!

I'm not at all surprised that the Beatles are at number one and the Rolling Stones are at number two. Nor am I surprised that Led Zeppelin is on the list, although I thought they'd be higher. (Well I suppose they were much higher in the 70s when all the drugs were flowing freely. 🤣 ). I'm also pleased to see the Police, Genesis, and the Clash made this lineup as well. They're all great bands. I am.surorised, though, that Black Sabbath didn't make the cut. I realize they weren't exactly a top 40 singles band, but I thought they had at least two or three songs that reached the top 10. Oh well, I guess the criteria for inclusion just wasn't designed to recognize their accomplishments.

@ Slade were one of the bands that appeared on top of the pops the most, status quo always had a top ten album in the seventies, they had one number one single which was “down down” which was nicked by bay city rollers with “bye bye baby”. Status quo opened live aid and appeared on the original band aid single “do they know it’s Christmas time”. even if they aren’t on the “hot 100” list they need recognition, plus they used more than 3 chords to dismiss the popular comment which was joked about by the band themselves, take a look at Rick Parfitt’s rhythm playing and Francis Rossi’s lead lines as well as their lyrics, not just the popular tracks, it’s a mystery why the haven’t been inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame.

@lynby6231 Zeppelin were a boy band. A group of boys/men selected for a certain amount of musical/vocal ability and stage presence. That is what Page did and slotted them into the rock category, although not everything they did was rock, was it?
Ridiculous list. Led Zepplin and Pink Floyd have no business being that low, and no Black Sabbath...at all...is absolute lunacy! No Judas Priest and Iron Maiden is also nuts.

The Moody Blues were not calculated correctly: 21 x 2 + 3 x 5 is 57 and not 67! Therefore the order is wrong!
On what planet were the Beatles, the Cure and Tears for bloody Fears ever rock bands. Quite a few of the other ones are borderline pop as well.

This list does not talk about "best", but rather about the performance of singles on the North American charts.
Ridiculous list. Led Zepplin and Pink Floyd have no business being that low, and no Black Sabbath...at all...is absolute lunacy! No Judas Priest and Iron Maiden is also nuts.
This list was based solely on the US singles charts. We know who the best bands are, we don't need the charts to know, right? Thanks for commenting!
@BackingTrackCenter using the singles chart is clearly a poor measure. Perhaps global album and ticket sales would be better measures of success. It was still an interesting list though, proving that charting ≠ influence.

Ну так там же сразу написали, что группы расставлены не по качеству музыки, а по занятым местам в хит - парадах. А в этих "парадах" попсовые группы всегда будут больше мест занимать, чем хардроковые. К этому списку серьёзно относиться нельзя. Так, если только посмотреть от нечего делать.

Je suis d’accord qu’il s’agit d’une approche plus commerciale, mais cela n’enlève rien au mérite de la façon dont ces groupes ont contribué à façonner la scène musicale internationale et cela n’a pas non plus l’intention de diminuer l’impact de ceux qui n’ont pas atteint ces sommets. Nous avons couvert les listes de plusieurs points de vue différents et celui-ci en faisait partie. Merci d'avoir regardé et commenté !
