Both Bill Evans One-Steps are bettered by the Analogue Productions versions. Once I heard the APs, I sold my One-Steps. "Monk's Dream" is great on both the One-Step and the Mofi SACD
Yes, over time, I found I was only listening to a few of my Mofi One Steps. Monks Dream was my favorite of the jazz titles and I almost did a feature on it.
Three great musical selections. I'd like to know how the One-Step Fragile compares with the Joe Gastwirt remastered Atlantic CD? I had the UK LP but the Gastwirt CD is just a lot more fun without boosted highs & lows.
It's a fun listen but I haven't compared this Fragile to anything else. I have heard it said it's boosted in bass compared to the UK. I still love it. Very transparent in the vocal parts. Heart of the Sunrise is stunning.
Supervinyl is MOFI's name for a vinyl compound developed by a company called Neotech in conjunction with RTI. Neotech VR 9000 is a translucent vinyl known for its low noise properties among other benefits. It is inspired by JVC Supervinyl.
Yes it's still at the top of my favorites. I recently did a private shootout and was amazed by the RL. It just gets better and better with each system upgrade. I hadn't heard it since going to tube amplification, and it seemed to take it to a new level. I love the One Step too, but it like it's on steroids! Maxine is great I agree, and I love The Goodbye Look for all that interesting percussion and power. Another one that I still enjoy is Monks Dream, in isolation mind you, as I don't have another copy. I've heard the Impex may be better. It doesn't seem overly fussed with like some of the rock titles. I know Fragile is not one of the best, but I've never heard a UK pressing. Even without a reference, I could tell it was 'souped up' in the bass, but I was very attracted to a few of the delicate vocals on Heart of the Sunrise. A fun listen for me, but I can't wait for the new Atlantic 45! That will be a good comparison. I've got to start looking for a UK and a few of the other key pressings What a fun, crazy hobby, huh?
Definitely listen to the SRV records…amazing!!! And I am praying they do Close to the Edge by Yes sometime, because, like you, I love this copy of Fragile!!!! I’d love to have a copy of Abraxas, but I have two copies (US and Canada) of the Master Sound pressings, and they sound simply perfect!!!
Great video! I used to live in Miami and left 2 years ago since the lockdowns!!! Are there any record shops there now except for Lucky Records in Winwood??? Also if you haven't seen that ultimate hi-fi shop across the street stop in and grab a drink! They know sound and love to talk about it! I just went there initially to see their $190K turntable!
I was just at that store to get my new cartridge and lust after some upgrades I want to make. Yes there are 2 more stores at lease, Sweat, and Technique.
Once you see Art Garfunkel’s handlebar moustache on the BOTW cover you can’t unsee it! 😂 I’ve only got the Blood, Sweat and Tears one step so far, but it’s one of my top 3 sounding records - phenomenal dynamics on it. Thinking of getting the two Eagles one steps next as they’re still quite affordable and I do really like the albums. Great video thanks - liked and subscribed!
Thanks for your comment! I just pulled out BOTW and now that image is burned into my brain, lol. One day I hope I'll come across someone who has an extra BST that they may want to trade. I've got an extra Fragile just in case! One of the few I bought a backup of. I'm glad they pressed more of the Eagles so that they are still reasonable. You'll be impressed with that one too. Great to have you here, your perspective is valued and I'll be looking forward to your comments.
@@ThePressingMatters haha yeah sorry about that, hope I haven’t ruined it for you! 😆 I only have one copy of BST, sadly but I see they are still reasonably priced on eBay. Any MOFI or AP records work out much more expensive here in the UK, what with the postage and import duty etc. or I would have certainly bought more. There’s one really good shop I use in Wales and I’ve emailed him and he’s got both Eagles one steps 😎
@@Stuck_in_the_70s I know being in the UK you take a big hit with these records and have to be selective. I hope you find my reviews helpful in that regard as one listener's opinion on if release is worth it. Thanks so much for watching and hope to see you here again!
Thank you and welcome to the channel. I hope you'll find some interesting topics here and I always welcome other viewpoints and opinions. I appreciate your support!
Great video review sir. I’ve been fortunate to get all the One-steps to date. The only one I would consider in addition to your excellent selections is the Stevie Ray Vaughan/Couldn’t Stand the Weather pressing. It may not be a genre all like, but worthy of including in my top 3.
Hi, and thanks for watching! It's not the first time I've heard that the Stevie Ray Vaughn is amazing. I will check it out in depth based on everyone's enthusiasm for it. Glad to have you here. I appreciate your comments.
I don't have Paul Simon, Eagles and all the non supervinyl titles. I would say Mingus is easily the best, followed by Yes and Portrait in Jazz. SRV titles are also killers.
Absolutely, the Mingus is just incredible! It bettered my Classic Records 45, so thsts saying something! It's hard to believe that recording is 50 years old. they really knew what they were doing back then with the Columbia Jazz program. Kind of Blue and Time Out are two others from that series that are absolutely mind blowing. Fragile One Step really blew me away. I still can't get over how good it sounds. I'll have to give Portrait in Jazz another listen based on your comment. Do you have plans to get any of the new batch?
“FRAGILE” ONE-STEP IS FLIPPIN AMAZING! I just sold a COMPLETE sealed, One Step collection of 18 albums. It took me 6 months to put together but a fun project. Wish I could of afforded to hold on to it. Yes, keep Village @ the Vanguard sealed. That’s a 1k album (SEALED) down the road. And, YES, the pressing does matter!
Hi, thank you so much for your comment. It must have been hard to let go of that but I'm sure you did pretty good! And Yes, Fragile is my favorite, absolutely.
I have 11 mofi one steps Only 4 measure up Monk, Mingus, Eagles S/T and Dylan Blood on the Tracks The Bill Evans SATVV is totally unbalanced. Scott Lafaro’s bass sounds 10 ft tall - very out of balance The Analog Productions in the Riverside 45 rpm boxset is much more natural and you get the realism of the Vanguard
You hit the nail on the head. Those four are the best! I have a soft spot for Fragile even with its flaws. It's a fun listen. But the big four above are the best ones for sure. I haven't opened my Bill Evans so I can't comment on that.

Hi Scott, what exactly is the "Super Vinyl" please??
Supervinyl is MOFI's name for a vinyl compound developed by a company called Neotech in conjunction with RTI. Neotech VR 9000 is a translucent vinyl known for its low noise properties among other benefits. It is inspired by JVC Supervinyl.
I kept the One Step Donald Fagen Nightfly
I like the RL better - but the One Step Maxine is my favorite - just lovely

Great assessment
Thank you! I enjoyed doing that video. Glad you found it interesting!
you look awesome surrounded by all those SACDs :P
Lol haha
You nailed my top three. Fragile doesn’t get enough love. It sounds absolutely amazing. Stay well Scott. 🎶☮️🎶
Thank you! I agree, I'm not sure why it's not talked about more! Great to hear from you again!
Yes Fragile is so breathtaking, desert island record
There are just so many
Such a stunning record, the quiet parts are especially beautiful on this release.

Close to the Edge would be mind blowing!

I'll be doing a video on my visit to Soundlux Audio in the very near future.

These are sublime, I have every release, unfortunately only one of each. Still sealed I just can’t open them.
Wait you have them all and haven't opened them?
I just reread the comment. You have some sealed that you can't bring yourself to open?

This makes me kind of sad :( There's not really any reason to limit these.
It's true. Unless there was contractual reasons there could be repressed on Supervinyl in a regular jacket. Wouldn't that be nice!
I don't have Paul Simon, Eagles and all the non supervinyl titles. I would say Mingus is easily the best, followed by Yes and Portrait in Jazz. SRV titles are also killers.

SANTANA - ABRAXAS :-)
Im sure it would have been in my top 3 if i hadn't balked at a $100 dollar record! My how times have changed!

I think I beat you in the precautions department.
I bought 9 onestep releases,all still sealed.
Ah Um, Portrait in Jazz, Bridge Over Troubled Water?
Yes and many more
Are you high again?
I have 11 mofi one steps
Only 4 measure up
Monk, Mingus, Eagles S/T and Dylan Blood on the Tracks
The Bill Evans SATVV is totally unbalanced.

A Yes Fragile PLUM is luscious
