- Опубликовано: 22 ноя 2019
- A septoplasty is the procedure to fix a deviated nasal septum. In today's video, we discuss what the nasal septum is, how it becomes deviated, and what they do to fix it.

It’s cool to see the cadaver but I’m just curious and creeped out as to what the other side looks like. Its too freaky
I know this has been done before but if you don't mind, could you do a video on the lungs? Specifically what consuming cigarettes or vaping does over time. I'd like to see your pov on it.
Yeahh
Watch Dr. Gunther Von Hagens. He has a series where he dissects lungs of a smoker.

I started having bad sinus problems awhile back and recently found out I had a deviated septum. They don't think they can fix it, and it's not from trauma, so I find it ironic that this was recommended to me. Loved it!
Bro..do more of these!! I'm so fascinated of the inside of the human body

How do you cut the head so perfectly without loosing the tissues🤔
Sree hari nair I’m pretty sure they use lasers, look up the video on “body worlds” it explains the whole process
Cadavers are frozen and then cut.
LyricalHacker I think lasers would be too hot and end up destroying the specimens around the area you’re trying to cut
Easy, bring the cadaver to your nearest Subway shop. They can slice flesh to within a micron.
The body is frozen then cut in half with most likely a type of band saw. I've seen it done before. It all stays in tact.
I’m 73 and have always had a deviated septum, (both sides), there have been surgical attempts at fixing this. The process seems relatively simple but the problem is a bit deeper than one might think. The reason is that the septum tissue has a memory and seems to want to grow back to it’s previous deviated state after surgery , thus negating the effects of the operation. I had a last attempt at fixing this problem about 10 years ago with one of this countrie’s best surgeons,(Melbourne, Aus.). He has fixed one side up , the other side appears to have grown back, so I guess I can live with it. I maintain that the cause was probably a very difficult forceps birth, however the surgeon prefers to keep an open mind on that , it seems that the surgery , to be successful has to virtually crush the septum into submission . It has not been a very pleasant condition to live with breathing wise and I would advise anyone with the condition to try and get the best surgeon on it but be aware of the hazards of the tissue growing back. Davox.
David martin who performs this procedure...plastic surgeons? Ty!
Cro Boy Ear eye nose and throat specialists they are called in Oz mate. Davox.
Of course.....👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
It's not rare that the septum will grow back. A surgery may not always be a success, and it may also happen that a hole in the septum forms that will make you whistle whenever you breathe through your nose. Sometimes multiple surgeries are needed.
It doesnt actually have a “memory” - it just tends to get squished into the same position again because of the force of rest of the muscles and bones in the head and face. Its such flexible tissue
Im a 13 year old and i watch these videos because it fascinates me that one time these were people! And not just because of that, I like learning about the human body! I think i want to study this and do this when i grow up! I know at first is going to be hard since I have NEVER worked with a human body of course, and its a little freaky but I think this.......is going to be my profession! Thanks for showing these things and thanks for educating us! 😁✌🏼
Bro please make longer videos I really like them and I REALLY want to know more about the body
Sounds good! We have some longer videos in the pipeline, so be sure to stay tuned
Institute of Human Anatomy ok thank you
Yes! This is a very interesting and educational material. I like your videos a lot too. 👍🏻
To think that the “specimen” was a human being. He love, he was loved. He had dreams, some unfulfilled. He gazed into the stars and pondered the meaning of life. He has moments of ecstasy and moments of dread. And now his head is sliced in half and on a RUclips video. Life is strange.
Probably some homeless guy with no next of kin to protest. That's who was usually used by the medical community in the past for toying with.
This comment is exactly what I've been thinking.
If he was a donor then no problem, I remember a science teacher who donated her skeleton, and it's in her school?, Idk if it's true but some people actually donate their body, besides this is not the person anymore it's just the body of the person.
Rotaman I appreciate your respect for the real people who give their bodies to further education and science. Some people find it easier to disassociate the cadavers from....people who lived, loved, and felt. 🌹
DumbDuck44 not true.
I had this operation done, and it was very different from what is said in this video. First of all, my septum deviation occurred naturally, probably inherited from my mother who had the same issue. It was severe as well, and I actually couldn't breathe well because the "thorn" it created blocked the air flow. This was not due to trauma.
Then, the procedure was that the doctor removed a part of my septum, straightened it, and put it back in, which, to my knowledge, is the usual modus operandi when it comes to such surgeries.
And let me guess, you have children... ugh. So many people with genetic defects keep reproducing, and the most successful tend to have none or below replacement quantity. We really need to bring back eugenics.
How things now with your nose and breathing?
@@Amiraldz Hey, thanks for asking. Not much better, to be honest. But there is a significant chance of the surgery not having any effect, or even having an adverse effect. At least I don't have that, but there hasn't been much amelioration either, sadly. I won't repeat the procedure.
@@RandolphCrane sorry to hear that you are not happy with the outcome of the surgery. Maybe it's just that you didn't need it to start with? I mean your issue is underlying somewhere else not related to the septum deviation... Just thinking and thanks a lot for sharing your feedback and experience with us.

Makes you really want to see into the mind of someone who is desensitized enough to do that task. Not even most serial killers reach that level of body mutilation.

The whole concept that the person is dead and it is just their vessel in which they at one point used but no longer use, makes it acceptable and I'd have no issue cutting into any part of his old shell.
I was born with a deviated septum.
It's pretty mild though, I just can't breath out of my left side very well lol

Could you do a video on the human eye? I’m still confused on how it works
Well scientist are still not shure how the human eye works, its one of the most complex organ in your body being able to see colours and put memmories together trying to explane the eye is very hard but possable
Say monika very slow
How did you cut his head in half ??

I love your video's! Would you please do a video on the male prepuce? I'm very educated on this part but a lot of Americans are ignorant about the structure and functions. I think it would be a great video. ❤️
I had a deviated septum! Sometimes for no apparent reason, I would be unable to breathe through my left nostril. Completely blocked. Did a scan, and yup - deviated septum. The doctor said it was probably a result of falling on my head or face when I was a toddler. I had it surgically corrected in my twenties. It hurt like hell and I temporarily lost my sense of taste, but it's all healed up now and I can breathe properly again. So yeah - surgery's definitely worth it even if you look like you stole Sir Ian MacKellan's nose for the first few days. :p
my weekly random thing im hooked on learning in anatomy :)
Pretty sure I had something happen with my nose when I broke it a few years ago. It’s harder to breathe through my right nostril at any given moment, like it’s partly blocked.
Please do more I learn more from this than I do school
Found your videos.. keep up the good work.
I had sinus surgery about 10 Years ago for a server sinus infection and afterwards I started to notice my septum is slightly pushed over to the left side and when I plug each side of my nose its very noticeable that its harder to bring air in that side. Would this cause any other issues other than discomfort and the difference in how much air I bring in on each side? Or is it not an issue. Thanks
I have had terrible sinus problems for many years. I have seasonal allergies and sinusitis. I even had surgery. Could you do a video on sinuses? I think a lot of swelling goes on in my head. I'd love to know more about what is going on in there.
Thanks so much. My brother broke my nose when we were kids. Yes it hurt & there was blood everywhere. The sound of sticking instrumants up my nose is not appealing.
I'd also dread the sensation when the numbing wears off. I now snore to this day.
PLEASE do more long format videos!!
how long have you been in college for this?
Thanks for the info!!
I have this! It’s natural and it’s the reason why I breath so loud through my nose lol
i have to undergo surgery for my deviated septum (congenital) and decongest my turbinates so this is very interesting!!!

Can ths cause severe under eye bags? I have them, and it isn't just your typical ones. Its severe on both sides. Wonder if it's caused from a sinus drainage issue. I normally can breathe pretty normal except for allergies, colds, etc.
I had mine corrected and it’s like night and day. He had to graft it due to it being so weak. It went to the left and my nose tilts to the right.
Thank you so much sir 🤗👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻💐
Question after the deviated septum is fixed is it possible to smell and taste afterwards? What happens if that isnt possible after it being fixed?
Can you show a video that shows the cervix.
Could a deviated septum cause snoring and sleep apneoa? I have a deviated septum which I suspect occurred when my two year old reached up his little arms for a cuddle but instead head butted me and broke my nose. I never had it treated. That was fourteen years ago. Now I have suspected sleep apnoea and I snore badly.
So that's all? They just remove part of the cartilage? I thought there was also some bone in the way, connective tissues, ecc.
Are there different degrees of "seriousness" or it's tipically just the cartilage involved?
Thank you for showing me on wjat i will have done i have one in my left nostril
This is creepy but I’m intrigued too much
This is a great video... but next time leave out the background (noise) music... it is distracting and not necessary.

Ive been having some breathing issues for a few years now, im not sure if its caused by a deviated septum ive done multiple tests for my nose bones and the inside they all said that nothing is wrong and everything is fine but i still cant breath normaly i feel like i only breath from one of the nose nostrils any suggestions on what should i do a test or smth maybe ?
i just had this sergury last year ! now i feel i can breath 80 percent better
I don’t have a septum cartilage, after a few rugby incidents when I was younger, I now have a hole roughly 12mm in diameter just above the nasal opening
yay i finally see your first video
Make some more video like this ☺ please dont forget
I have had a deviated septum since I was like 2 and it’s nice to see how gross my inner nose is
I feel for that poor guy who had to cut a human head in half
I feel smarter after watching this
mine happened because of trauma and it was never fixed the way it should.after the surgery i still have the left nostril clogging/swelling shut.
Interested keep sharing

I have a deviated septum that the doctor found out about at a pulmonology appointment. It is natural.
Do you think it tickles when he puts dat rod in there

I have a deviated septum but I'm way too scared of surgery to try and fix it. It's not that severe and I live alone, so my snoring only bothers my pets

I was born with a deviated septum I had surgery in 3rd grade I still don’t like how crooked it looks is it possible to get it done a second time or get a nose job to fix the crookedness?
Yes, often the deviation comes back again anyway.
i had a friend with this, never knew it could be fixed
I was wondering what's the minimum dedidated wham
There is a direct way from the nose to the pharynx. So why we can't breath while sinusitis?
Haii can u make all videos one by one like a chapter. thats will make much better to study anatomy for medical professional.. thank u

How do they get the cadavers like that ? Like dry? I don’t know how to explain it...
They get bodies donated
Sir explain the stomach
Great idea! I'll get something up real soon!
Is it the preservative that made it expand?
I remember when I was in high school medical biology and we went to a college lab to view the dissection of a cadaver. The only person to pass out was a guy who was the big, strong outdoorsman type. You'd figure hed had his arms in enough dead animals to get him past that.
Thoroughly Wet we had anatomy sessions with a cadaver while studying in art school- very surreal, because they also had a live nude model posing and flexing the different muscles in the same area...(the model had a funny personality too- I remember funny faces as he was trying to get certain muscles to flex). The thing that made me nauseous though was the odor of the embalming agent- very strong! Learned too that a bit of menthol (Vick’s vaporub) under the nose could counteract the embalming odors.
Not something I’d want to do every day, but very interesting experience for sure
do y’all just saw the person in half?
Donated cadaver, yeah.
mary georgia they’re dead so no biggie.
NHMO OYTIS i- no😭😂
That's a lotta damage!
Yep. Just like with regular cold cuts, the cadaver parts are frozen before being sliced with a band saw. This allows clean cuts without damaging tissues.
Oh dear God !!!! That was a real person!!!!!
it was dead before it was cut,the body was donated
@@no_name_idea7386 I know that the body was donated but to know this was a person that had a family......birthday........laugh with people.....had a cat or a dog for a pet ....it just hits you in gut you know ....
Can you someday make a video about how these human slices are made?
Wooooow fascinating
Does the cartilage grow back?
How doesn’t it decompose? Or is it fresh?
I have one! Thanks.
You haven't reed my question what was the names of those kadapa's
Why am I able to pop my nose? If I push up on my septum, my nose will pop. Why is that?
What does the front of the head look like
While I understand your curiosity, we won't be showing the face of any of our cadavers in order to be respectful to both them and their families.
Institute of Human Anatomy ok
look in the mirror
I have had a deviated septum, had it "fixed", only to have it come back 6 months later. Needless to say, won't do it again.
This reminds me of the pop star Michael Jackson. I mean this in a totally respectful sense. Hear me out, Michael Jackson had his first nose operation after a fall on stage during rehearsals, and he complained for several years that he couldn't breath as normal. Which is why he had a second nose operation, now i was particularly interested in the fact that you were mentioning the cartilage being removed so that the patient could breath better. I'm wondering if this is what happened with Michael Jackson and as a result his nose appeared a lot smaller. I could be wrong. But this whole situation reminded me of Michael Jackson's circumstances with his breathing issues during his Thriller Years.
Interesting thought!
What does a cleft lip AND pallet look like... and what structures get repaired.... can u show that?? L9ve the channel BTW!!! I AM A NURSE!! LOL

Can you please talk about the human eye
I'd likw to see a video of how they cut this cadavers head straight down vertically.

in health the notes said something abt a septum but in your chest? i thought it was a sternum i’m very confused
Not sure exactly which structure you are talking about but a septum in biology terms just means that there is something dividing that area. For example there are septums in your heart that help block off the 4 chambers. I know it can be confusing in more general language we say septum to refer to the nose area but biology and especially anatomy is a separate language!
Maybe you are refering to the septum transversum? 🤔
srice94 Ohhhh that makes much more sense thank you so much!
Anielka Valeska mm no but thank you i learned something a new. i had to look that one up haha
Is that......a human head......? I like how everyone just breezes past the fact that theres a literal human skull on the table
That used to be a person
Creepy....
ASMR is not working out for you?
Armando I haven’t posted in a while sadly, Ive been really busy and I wasn’t sure if people liked it
Why are these cadavers used for dissection always yellowish in color?
Probably due to the embalming process
This is kinda random but is it weird or unhealthy to put your tongue behind your uvula and into that nasal thing?
