Today we do a 7 way blind to determine what is the best whiskey to make the iconic and legendary Old Fashioned cocktail! Jaime joins part way through to share her opinion for those that like a sweeter and more mild version. What whiskey do you use for the perfect Old Fashioned?

I came up with my own version of this cocktail. 2 oz Evan Williams BIB, 1/2oz simple syrup, 4 dashes Angostura bitters, 1/2 oz of Gran Marnier.
For me the best whiskeys for Old fashioned are OF100 RYE and Old Grand Dad BiB and 114. The Bookers expensive option great as well
I like OF 100 for my Olf Fashion as well. But lately I"ve really been liking Old Grand Dad Bonded.
High West Double Rye! is my fave for Old Fashioned.
Lately I've been making mine with 1oz Balvenie 12yo OR Redbreast 15yo AND Wild Turkey 101. I put it over two big rocks, 2 tsp of simple syrup, 1/2 tsp Luxardo juice, 2 dashes of Agostura and 2 dashes of Orange bitters and garnish with 2 Luxardo cherries and orange peel after torching and zesting in the drink. Try it!
Old Grand Dad BiB is my go-to old fashioned. Love the nuttiness and the 100 proof gives it that oomph. Elijah Craig would probably be my second.
I've been drinking Buffalo Trace old fashioneds since I was able to get my hands on a bottle recently and I'm with Jaime on that one for sure. To me, it might be better as an OF than neat. I gotta get a bottle of OF100 and try that, though. I'm still pretty inexperienced with the variety of bourbons I've had.
I’m with Jaime… love BT! But also love WT101 too! If you like cinnamon I’ve torched a cinnamon stick and then put the glass over it to smoke it… fantastic! 🥃
I love the Old Granddad Bonded in my Old Fashioned. But I have also used all of the bourbons you selected and they are fantastic.

The best old fashioned I've ever had was made with Four Roses single barrel barrel strength.

Early Times or Old Forester Rye are my go-to's for an Old Fashioned. Plus Angostura and Orange bitters, and either a sugar cube or simple syrup. Orange twist and luxardo cherry.
For me it’s knob 9 or makers mark. Wt 101 and OF 100 are solid options as well.

Sazerac for me but I have only tried a few with others. i didn't like Evan Williams BIB old fashioned but i enjoy it neat. recently made one with Kirkland BIB and it was fantastic. Will venture out to other brands. I love my old fashioneds. I add a bourbon soaked cherry to mine. Cheers.
I love an old fashioned with Saz Rye!
OF100 is my go-to for old fashioneds, but I use blue agave for the sugar to “richen it up.” Give it a try!

Old Granddad 114 or Rittenhouse Rye both make great old fashioneds. Today agree on both of your the Old Forester choices and the WT101

Maker's 46 makes a good Old Fashioned
2/3rds whatever bourbon you like, 1/3rd Old Forester Rye is the move.

As a viewer from WI I am very disappointed you didn’t have a brandy option 😄. That’s the only way my Dad makes them!
Might be a sin but I’ve always liked woodford double oaked in mine and if I’m not going for that I prefer a rye.

i bought a bottle of
Old Pulteney Scotch and I hate it. Tastes like Listerine. On a whim I tried it in an Old Fashioned and it works fine. At least I don't have to throw away the Old Pulteney now

You forgot the brandy. That's how they drink them in Wisconsin. Heaven Hill puts out a bottled in bond brandy aged in ex bourbon barrels.
What is the name of this brandy?
@@andreslucero4976Sacred Bond bottled-in-bond brandy. It might not be the best brandy out there, especially if you're a brandy geek, but I like it as a change of pace. Plus, it's only $23 bucks by me.
