Professional bartender here. Fun video, especially how you made it a blind test. not going to critique how you built the drink. Pro tip skip the bourbon and use Rye whiskey 👍🏿
Great video! I'd love to see another video with a different lineup of bourbons. I love sipping on WT101 but I wasn't a fan of it in an Old Fashioned...weird!
Being in Wisconsin where it's Brandy Old-Fashioned Sweets (although out-of-state foreigners request Whiskey Old-Fashions 😜), I'm not used bourbon whiskey in my drinks. Now I'm going to have to get myself a bottle of Old Forester. 😁
Great video! With the exception of the Fighting Cock, which I've never tried, I've used all of these in Old Fashioned' s before and they are all solid mixing bourbons, with the Old Forester also being my favorite. What I've gravitated to in the past year or so is using Rye's in my Old Fashioned cocktails, and the Old Forester 101 Rye is one of my go-to whiskey's for that (I like using higher proof whiskeys for these cocktails). I recently made some Old Fashioned cocktails for a groups of bourbon lovers at my house for a holiday party. For a change, I grabbed my bottle of Sagamore Spirits Cask Strength Rye to see how that would work in the drinks, and WOW, was that good! It really blew everyone away when they tried the drinks, and I didn't tell them what I had used and they were all trying to guess. When they learned it was the Sagamore, they all said they wanted to go out and buy it. So, if you have the opportunity to try the Sagamore in an Old Fashioned, give it a go and I think you will really like it. Love your videos, as I learn a great deal from you! Happy Holidays to you and your family!
all great choices. might want to add Old Grandad 114, woodford reserve double oak, and I did one with New Riff recently and loved it. I think it is mostly about each individual taste and even the day. thanks for the review. thanks and cheers
With the show's inspiration, I just tried an EW Single Barrel Old Fashioned and it was phenomenal! It's especially good with Luxardo or Filthy cherries!
OF 100 is definitely my go-to for an Old Fashioned. I've tried Makers Mark, Bulleit, Woodford Reserve, and Four Roses, and none of those were bad, but I always come back to Old Forester.
I'd have bet $100 on Old Forester 100 to take this one in that lineup. I use OF100 quite frequently for mixed drinks. I think It is also spot on with Wild Turkey 101 coming in 4th. Absolutely not a shock at all to me. It seems crazy for how good WT101 is sipping neat, but especially in an Old Fashioned (and even other mixed drinks) the flavor profile just doesn't work for me. I think there are some other interesting choices out there though for people to consider for Old Fashioned. Woodford Reserve works pretty well and Old Grandad BiB makes an excellent Old Fashioned. I think 1792 Small Batch works nice as well. So, for me, that would be an interesting four to compare... OF100, Woodford Reserve, OG BiB, and 1792. I just might have to setup my own little experiment.
Funny you say that… Saturday night I had the best maple old fashioned made with Woodford Reserve. It was really good! I’m sure it was part bc of the maple Syrup but I’ve always been a WR fan! Thank you for the suggestions! Cheers🥃
For some reason I prefer to skip the cherries in my Old Fashioned’s. I am still pretty new to Bourbon, but I am not a fan of the cherry flavor in OF’s.
Everything you have on the table in front of you is good bourbon for an old fashioned (if you're on a budget) I prefer the W/T 101of the 4, but you just can't beat the Fighting cock at 103 proof for mixers, first it tastes good and its only $17.99 for a 750ml bottle and you just can't shake a stick at that! I do prefer much higher proof bourbons for my old fashioneds but to each his own. 🥃Cheers!
My favorite bourbon for an Old Fashioned isn’t necessarily a brand more of a style, low proof barrel proof bourbons seems to be the sweet spot, a good 110-115ish proof really keeps a nice mouthfeel and Carries a lot of bourbon flavor through to complement the sweetness and bitters that comes with an old fashioned.

I mostly use a rye in my old fashioneds and the OF rye is my go to.
delicious
OF100 is my favorite in an Old fashioned. That banana note with orange peel is amazing.
I love a rye in my old fashions.
I have done a similar comparison and found I like Bulleit bourbon the best. Nice video.
Excellent topic. Though I generally drink bourbon either straight or with a large cube, I do occasionally like a nice Old Fashioned.
Just picked up the EW BIB $2 off. Great value.

Happiest Holidays to you! Thank you so much for going back to watch and your input ☺️🥃
Great video!!!
I like Michter's bourbon in my old fashion. Cheers guys!!!
I used Michters Straight bourbon last week and it was perhaps the best old fashioned I’ve ever had.. I typically use OF or Knob Creek rye
Nice!

You need to this again but add old grand dad bonded. For me this is the best for an old fashion
THIS is the video i needed
With the show's inspiration, I just tried an EW Single Barrel Old Fashioned and it was phenomenal! It's especially good with Luxardo or Filthy cherries!
This is a great idea...nicely done. Other bourbons I'd like to see would be Elijah Graig , Knob Creek, EW 1783, and maybe a Jim Beam.
How does the Old Forester do vs Makers Mark and Larceny for an Old Fashioned?
OF 100 is definitely my go-to for an Old Fashioned. I've tried Makers Mark, Bulleit, Woodford Reserve, and Four Roses, and none of those were bad, but I always come back to Old Forester.
Seriously love you guys in vids......great one !
Evan Williams 101….love it 😂🤣
I caught that too JB!!
I think you should have tried to new 101..
Though Old Forester 100 is my favorite sipper, I would say the best mixer bourbon is Maker's Mark and the second best is Old Forester Rye.

Try making a "Very Old Fashioned" using Very Old Barton 100. Quite good. The affordability makes it an honorable mention.
Need to try that yes!
Funny, can’t stand 101 in old fashioneds but absolutely love it neat. OF 100 is my favorite of those
This was filmed a while ago! Wonder if I’ve changed. Thanks for watching☺️🥃
Fantastic video enjoy
I fairness to the cocktail, where is the rye?
High alcohol
Old Forester a 100%! . I like Evan Williams for sour whiskey drinks.
I will give that a try! Thank you!

I'd love to hang out with you two lol mix some drinks, have some laughs... cheers xD
OF 100proof rye makes amazing old fashioned as well as manhattans.

"I smell ice." LOL
😂😂😂🤷🏼♀️🥃
Try it with Rare Breed - I think it's better than the original 101.
Thanks for the suggestion☺️🥃
Before you revealed, I thought 4 was OF, 3 was Fighting Cock, 2 was EW and 1 was WT 101...
I gave too much credit to WT and not enough to OF! Nice video! I'd love to do this with some old fashions...or IN FASHIONS.
OF is supposed to be a RYE! Period
Why is black shirt back?? 😒😏
First
I love Rittenhouse in mine
Why wasn't this filmed in speakeasy ?? 🤔🥺Is David locking you away from it ??
😂😂😂😂🤷🏼♀️
No surprise. Wild Turkey is really not that great and in a cocktail it’s lack of refinement shows through. Old forester products are fantastic values.
