Mothers in Nigeria: "We're never at peace"

Why do women in Nigeria struggle to provide care for their young children? Several factors, including limited medical facilities, costs tied to travel distance and affording care, and general insecurity contribute to this. In fact, Nigeria currently has the third-highest maternal mortality rate in the world. But beyond childbirth, mothers struggle to find proper care for their young children who fall ill and need treatment.
In Kano, Benue, Cross River, and Zamfara states, Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) teams are providing maternal and neonatal health care, and we’ll be opening a large maternity hospital in Maiduguri in June 2024. In collaboration with the state Ministry of Health, our teams are also providing emergency obstetrics and newborn care at Jahun General Hospital, located in Jigawa state in northern Nigeria.
Yet this is still a drop in the ocean when it comes to the immense needs of #women and young children - especially with malnutrition cases on the rise. #doctorswithoutborders #maternalhealth #maternalmentalhealth #health #mentalhealth
