    I think this guy can clearly play alot better than it shows here. This is an extremely good clip for a beginer. I must say though as a Turk my self I think that these other Turks that have posted disrespectful comments should be ashamed. They should be pleasured that a foreigner is playing our instrument but instead they are acting like idiots.. Grow up

    David is on tour with Dead Can Dance as we speak and is a fantastic percusionist. I saw the group at the Universal Ampitheater. It was a night I will never forget. Thank you David for bringing your art to the stage where many can appreciate it.

    The 'doum' is played just a little off center. He is playing it correctly. I should know I play and perform myself. This is a good clip for anyone begining to play tha Darbuka, thanks for posting.

  • @suraah

    I would say... when you play a 'dum' stroke, your fingers are together but not cupped and you move 'towards the inside part of the drum'. When you play the 'pa' stroke, your fingers are cupped and you must think the drum is hot, your hand bounces back immediately or... it is just like slapping someone's face (sorry, I can't think of a better description). I hope it helps :-)

  • @Professzore
    @Professzore 18 лет назад

    This word (Pa[h]) may came from framedrum play techniques, where the slap stroke called this way, and played almost the same. See his framedrum instructions!

    @allstarswag Hopefully by now you've made a choice :-) but I'd say use what ever finger(s), (and even drum position!), works best for you. If you are getting the sounds you want and you aren't hurting your hands, then you are doing nothing wrong in my book!

    Use your ring finger, it's kind of like flicking your wrist.
    Maybe if I get my camera working I can post a tutorial or something. There seems to be a lot of people having trouble with that sort of thing.
