Excellent description of the SLP and the STOP interplay in determining loop size.I 100% agree with your analysis and recommendation that explaining such to the casting student in simple terms is important. It is important to note that the fine tuning required in ACA fly casting tournaments includes the skill of dampening the rod by focusing on a smooth casting stroke, positive STOP and a relaxed grip rather than a death grip to effectively manage counter-flex. Thank you for all your efforts to improve both fly casting performance and instruction.
+etamson Thanks for your input. When you are teaching your students please emphasize that I am only expressing my personal understanding of the fly cast.
Thanks for your continued work on the details of the cast. It is clear that there are many variables that significantly impact a cast and that only by exploring the impact that each of those variables can have on a cast do we deepen understanding.

+Banach137 Thanks for your comment. Herd mentality should not prevent students and instructors alike to offer their independent thoughts.
