Sprites look really nice in the PS2 version but with the exception of Italy's stage, I think the backgrounds are a step backwards compared to the beautiful stages of the arcade version

@@NicolasSilvaVasault It's that "school of thought" that prefers 3d stages in 2d (sprite) fg's, just because of early-mid 2000s nostalgia, when that trend began. The major players were Capcom's Cvs2 and Mvc2... but Snk also made theirs: Ngbc and this game (thank God that didnt reach Samurai Shodown 5).
Both version are great. The background is better on the original, but the ost is better on the remake.
@@etienner5081 not really. It has a higher fidelity, yes, but that doesn't mean it's better. Napolitan Blues sound very off key in this arrangement. Psycho Soldier sounds weird with vocals in a game where are voices all over the place already. In my opinion it doesn't mesh that well with KOF'94. The PS2 version is the primary example of "we did it because we could".
I like how cool the remake version of the 94 editions intro is. I am rather disappointed that this never left Japan.
I have the American version for Xbox that was officially canceled and released a couple of years ago.

O legal dessa versão de PS2 era que tem um modo chamado "neo geo mode", em que é possível se jogar com os gráficos, cenários, sons, desafio e jogabilidade da versão neo geo. Ou seja, no PS2 dá pra jogar a versão original e a remake.

when KoF 94 came out, I really thought it had some of the best backgrounds for its time. so detailed! i still prefer it to the PS 2 version but I like how the PS2 version improved the sprites.
Agreed. The sprites almost look like they're based on KoF01. The effects on some moves (ex.: Mai's Ryuuenbuu) remind me of the effects in the PSone version of Street Fighter ZERO3.
I love the redrawn sprites but they really needed extra frames of animation to look smoother.

@@shinra358 well with lower resolution graphics it’s easier to make things look smoother. As the pixels move less. And it’s easier to keep character volume consistent. With the higher res graphics because you have more pixels it’s harder to get away with it. You can clearly see the PS2 version is a bit more choppy. It’s kinda what they did with Street Fighter 2 HD. Also on the old game. The screen may scroll at 60 fps, but the characters and background frames move at the same fps (probably 12), and the PS2 version the characters may keep the same frame rate, but the BG is running at 60fps with all the elements, so it makes the characters more jarring.

NEO GEO se especialisa en juegos de lucha 2D, y claramente se ve mucho mejor en la version de 2D en la NEO GEO.
Los escenarios 3D de la PS2 son horribles y le quita todo lo bonito al juego.
Los personajes remasterizados de la PS2 le quito todo ese bello arte del Pixel Art clásico que !Se supone! Deben tener estos juegos de lucha.

After being so far gone playing mostly the later entries of the KOF series, I was never really the biggest fan of the first KOF (And the second as well), but i always did have a deep appreciation for this game anyway. After seeing the remake of KOF94 on PS2 and eventually playing I must admit, I enjoy it! A lot.
So to get to the point of comparing the two all i can do is talk about the PS2 version since the Neo Geo is where it all started. So unlike the Neo Geo, the PS2 remakes contains a now playable Saisyu Kusunagi and Rugal Bernstein now is playable without cheats, new stages with a bunch of SNK cameos, the characters are similar in looks but with a fresh coat of paint (I guess you could say this is more so a remaster than a remake in that sense. You can decide that). you now have the Neo Geo CD music (Assuming this was on the CD). Teams can now be mixed and matched or you can go solo unlike on Neo Geo. Another good thing to note is that the PS2 version has a option for online VS if you have a Network Adapter. You also can play the original KOF94 as it is inside the game if you're felling nostalgic as well for the more seasoned or retro gamers.
Unless you have your reasons for getting the original game on original hardware, the PS2 version is the way to go since you would be killing two birds with one stone. Not to mention Re-Bout has online (Not promising it's good since I have not played a single PS2 game online so play at your own risk XD).
EDIT: Apparently, in KOF94 Re-Bout you can use your teammates as Strikers. Seems like there some of that good ol KOF NESTS Saga influence in the game!
EDIT EDIT: Fixed a spelling/grammer error. And I just found out through someone's response that assists been a thing since the beginning. Which I never knew before hand. And as it looks like, it is based on Social Relations so who is on your team will matter more in that case.
Actually, you can use your teammates as assistant since KOF '94 vanilla, press all the buttons when you can't escape or you're stunned.

Esse jogo me pareceu uma ótima idéia mas consigo ver porque não fez todo o sucesso esperado. Esse aí é basicamente um grande fan service e só pra quem jogou e gostou do 94. Eu sou um grande fã do 94 então gostei muito mas também consigo ver que quem ficou fã da série através dos outros jogos não se interessou por esse jogo mais moderno com a mecânica ainda em experimentação

Still miss the days when the Haou Shoukouken was just a normal special move and NOT a Super aka Desperation Move.
Unironicly Yuris changed back to normal special(though as a charge move) in Kof 99 through Kof 2011 then in Kof 13 changed back to a desperation move.

Well... it's a very difficult decision for me but the PS2 version looks amazing! although in my heart lives the original version of Arcade! however I love both, the renewal of a great classic of all time.
I remember playing the NeoGeo version on the ps1 never knew about the existence of the ps2 remake until now on with this video.
I didn't know there was a ps1 version. I thought the first one for that console was 95. I do know about the neo geo version of 94 for ps2.
There were no ports back then of KoF 94, the series didn't start seeing other console ports till KoF 95.

I like the updated sprites but the neo geo version looks better
IF you ever happen to play this version, go in the options menu and set the backgrounds to the original, thank me later. You can use those updated sprites on the classic backgrounds, and it actually looks quite nice.

Look in the background of the USA stage and you can see Bison/Vega/Dictator and Balrog/Vega/Claw beneath the 'The King of Fighters '94' sign.
There's no Capcom characters in this game, sorry. The Fatal Fury and Art of Fighting series each had a boxer in them, Michael Max (FF), and Micky (AoF). The "Bison" character is King Lion (from the Savage Reign/Fu'un games), and not Bison.
As pessoas tem que levar em conta que na versão PS2 é possível escolher qualquer personagem. Diferente da versão neo geo, algo que só veio a ser corrigido em KoF 95
Muito top o Design dos personagens. Os jogos atuais deveriam ser assim, porém com os cenários em 3d um pouco mais caprichados!
Para mim foi uma surpresa ver que existe uma versão para playstation 2

Eu particularmente acho essa mistura de personagem 2d com cenário 3d meio esquisita, no caso utilizando os mesmos sprites; fora que alguns cenários perderam a ideia original, mas o cenário da Itália ficou fantástico , e a abertura também é demais. A versão do PS2 vale pela curiosidade e por ter a versão original do jogo incluída.
Cenário do Brasil também.

KOF 94 on PS2 could pass as a totally different game considering that SNK launched a new entry on the franchise with minimum changes. The HUD, the maps, the animations, the menus, everything is different.
And I could also pass the 2003 PS2 version of KOF 2001 as a totally different game compared to the original Neo Geo version, because of the same reasons.

thing about the PS2 is that you have that stand alone Japanese version, but you also have the original one on the KOF collection, which came out in the USA as well, its too bad that re-bout version never made it here.

The backgrounds are nowhere near as cool as the Arcade originals. Everything seems like it's so far in the distance and there's just way too much space around the fighters.

I like the intro on the PS2 version, but it ran a bit long.
Edit: the backgrounds on the original one are much better, they create a better sense of atmosphere. Plus, with the background so close and tight to the foreground, it really creates this cramped visual that actually works, because it seems like the fight could spill into the crowd at any moment. The new one creates too much space between the foreground and background, which makes it feel empty and lifeless. Plus, the OG has the fighters and crowd animated in the background, which really contributes to that feel of watching a chaotic brawl up close.
You can use the original backgrounds for Rebout, no excuses. You want the original backgrounds while playing Rebout? You can fix that in the games option menu.

O remake é bem bonito, com personagens atrás nos cenários e variação de dia/noite,mas a clássica é mais charmosa e...difícil pra caramba! Passei muita raiva quando moleque até fechar,gastei muita ficha kk
foi uma releitura interessante. Ainda assim acho que os elementos nos cenários do original são mais vivos (no remake é basicamante a arena 3D com umas cameo). Também gostava muito de ver os outros dois membros do time torcendo durante a luta, comemorando a vitória ou envergonhados pela derrota. Era um detalhe bobo, mas que reforçava a ideia de time e honestamente não sei por que os desenvolvedores largaram isso à partir do KoF 99

@@Versatil-1980 entiendo que la Neo Geo sea muy buena en 2D, en este caso me gusta mas esta versión de PS2, y aparte la PS2 tiene mucha mas potencia que la Neo Geo, tanto para crear contenido 3D como para el 2D. Si hablasemos de PS1, entonces si que la Neo Geo seria mas potente en 2D. El hecho que guste mas la versión de PS2, no significa que el de Neo Geo sea malo ni que no me guste, y no todas las conversiones de 2D a 3D me gustan, pero en este caso si. Pero es cuestión de gustos. Saludos

Yes, they also oddly used that announcer for SVC Chaos on the XBox, while the PS2 version used the original announcer.
Why did 94 get a reboot and not 95?
Because when this was released, it was the 10th anniversary of KoF 94, and it made sense to remake it due to it being the standard bearer for the series by being the first game. It also badly needed an Edit Mode, which Rebout finally had.

I prever the arcade version. Its compact and has better sound effects and background then the ps2
The ps2 version the backrounds are dull and lifeless. Select screen looks generic. It seems faster then the original but thats not saying much the difficulty even at max is still no where near as hard as the Arcade(without abusing glitches)
Also try preforming any special move consistently with a controllet over the Arcade joystick controls
But PS2 algo incluye the original sprites and stages if you want, PS2 wins !!!!!!!
PS2 version allows you to use the redrawn clean sprites on the old backgrounds, and it looks fantastic (and not shown in this video of course). You do not have to use the new backgrounds in this version, it is not forced upon you.

Neo Geo looks classic - PS2 looks better - two very different versions of the same game - but, both are very good.
KOF é sempre ótimo, mas a versão PS2 se ausenta da jogabilidade Arcade e inclui muitos vídeos de abertura, por isso ReBout talvez.

A versão PS2 é melhor do que o SF 2 aniversário, pois o 1° tem mais novidades (principalmente pela apresentação e gráficos)

I know. I wish they would port all of the best Neo Geo games on the PS4 or PS5. I bought the Metal Slug Anthology for the PS4, on my PS5. It looks and runs amazing! I always wanted a Neo Geo, but the system and Carts are way to Expensive! 😅😅

The original neo geo 94 was available for ps2! In the SNK collection and the KOF Orochi Saga.
The original Neo Geo version is in here, as well as the classic look is also available for Rebout. You'd know this if the video uploader would've shown it off as an extra in the video. I own a copy of this PS2 version, I never use the new stages, just the classic stages with the arranged music enabled.

Arcade version>ReBout. I just like the stages and presentation more. I'm not big on the 3-D backgrounds with 2-D sprites thing, never liked when games did that. But i have always liked ReBout's sprites and the fact that you can play as Rugal. Also Saisyu from '95 being added in was cool. But yea i gotta stick with the original on this one.
Rebout allows you to use the original backgrounds with the new cleaner sprites, so in a way it is quite superior. Plus you finally have an Edit option, so you can finally mix teams. That's the one thing I disliked about the original KoF 94, not being able to put together my own team, something Rebout solves.
The Neo Geo version is better on a Standard Definition TV or Enhanced Definition Monitor. But when you play some of these Neo Geo games on an HDTV, the sprites are very pixelated and look very poor. The same can be said with the Neo Geo versions of the games on the Xbox One. They are full of pixelated images. It looks very poor. "Remakes" of games on the Xbox One and Xbox 360, which run on an HDTV need to be done so at a resolution that does not become pixelated when seen on an HDTV.
Yep they also look great on HD CRTs .

The sprites are the same, but I prefer the classic 2D backgrounds (altrough some look interesting on PS2, but they're just out of place and don't fit). I also like the original soundtrack better than the arranged music. Neo Geo wins!
Still like the arcade look of the game better. The ps2 version looks too clean, neat and empty while the arcade version is full of life with sprite gritty type graphics.

The older version is better, The crowd are too far away in the new version. The team support attack is assumed missing since no standing player is around.other than the Korea stage, The arcade background is better.

Lol the original Arcade version is a lot harder without abusing the combo glitch present in 94. Controls are clunky and stiff good luck learning the max specials besides Kyos.
