- in my recent m-65 as a sleep system video i spoke of packing leaves inside the coat to add warthm in a emergency survival situation. many of my followers asked me to do a follow up and show it in more detail that is this video thank you for all your support
THE M-65 FIELD JACKSING HAS LOTS OF FEATURES THA MAKES IT A VERY GOOD CHOICE FOR A FIELD JACKET FOR CAMPING /WOODSCRAFT /BUSHCRAFT / SURVIVAL SKILL TRAINING. I WILL SHOW YOU A FEW HACKS WITH THIS JACKET AND HOW IT WILL MAKE A GREAT ADDITION TO YOUR GEAR LIST.
here i go a little more in depth about how to stuff the m-65 to get warmth in a emergency situation
I absolutely enjoyed your videos on the M65. You have given me motivation to dust off my old M65 from 40 years ago and start wearing it again. I have noticed that some jackets have a button on the front of them at just above chest level (mine doesn’t) and was wondering if you knew the purpose of this button.
In any case, I really appreciate the time and effort you have made to share your knowledge and you have made a subscriber out of me. Ever forward!
for years i wondered why the m65 had an open bottom hem,
now i know ... thanks blackie
glad to help
The M-65 field jacket is the Swiss army knife of jackets.
Jesus those m65 jackets are a gift that keeps on giving
Who knew there could be this much good stuff from a jacket?
Hi Blackie, greeting from Australia 🇦🇺 thankyou for your time to make these videos. Muchly appreciated Thankyou
That's a great idea brother. I agree those jackets were purpose-built with that liner like that. Brilliant video
thanks for the visit brother
Your videos are so interesting and full of green information thank you for producing them. I've used crumpled-up newspaper as insulation inside of a windbreaker after separating the lining from the Shell at the top collar
same idea its one of those tricks once you know it you will find ways to make it work when your in that bad situation
thanks for watching
Thank you is a good Trick.
I'll see if that works with my m65 copy too. here in Germany it is almost impossible to get an original m65. I've been following you for years and say most of what I've learned is from you. you are a great teacher.
Greeting form Heidelberg Germany
Very close copy of genuine M65 Field jacket is made by Helikon Tex. Better than any kind of Rothco and the rest. Teesar Inc. is good, too.
That's super neat. I think it could be applied to almost any jacket that has enough room between skin and fabric. Carrying a bit of paracord in a quick deploy bundle and that could act as the waist cinch and hold the insulation from falling out. Love the m65 jacket videos
very true
It’s to let water out and breathe those are made for a cold wet weather environment. You would also be issued pants with a liner and also a wool uniform. But yes you could stuff all your clothing with leaves nothing is better than the old issue wool liners. Have fun stay safe.
Lol I love how many videos you’ve made about 1 jacket. It’s amazing. You’re awesome and I’m drunk.
We appreciate you blackie, Thanks
After seeing a few of your vids on this jacket out of pure curiosity, you've single-handedly convinced me that I need one. Already making enquiries with my usual supply haunts. Thank you, sir!
IN urban survival situations you would probably want to substitute wads of paper or rags for the leaves. I love your M65 lore, Rockie. I just wish I could find an affordable old 100% cotton version instead of the Chinese-made polycotton versions.
very true in cities paper is everywhere
I always wondered also, why those jackets were like that. That's a great option if needed.👍
Estoy de acuerdo con usted para mí es una de las mejores chaquetas que se han fabricado o ideado😊😊
Another old trick is to use newspaper. This is pushed into the gap in several layers. First crumple up the paper, then smooth it out and insert it. The creases in the paper fill with body heat. More than one layer is important.
Greetings
Great video as always
Never thought about doing that but it makes sense. Makes me love the M65 even more. 👍👍
its a great field jacket
You always get thumbs-up and I always value your vast knowledge. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Awesome Video!
Thanks Blackie
You never stop helping.
i try my best to
Downloading this to watch later when I have time and can pay attention, but I wanted to comment for the algorithm
A great idea, goes to show you can always learn a new trick.
Definitely!
"Sensible Prepper" (aka Sootch00) has a several-years-old video on Survival Lessons from the Homeless which, sadly, this video fits right in with, when you hear the story at the beginning.
Another great idea! Thanks Blackie!
Any time!
A great idea. A couple of large safety pins fastened inside a pocket would help hold insulation in when needed.
Love your channel brother. Such useful info.
thank you very much
Great video, thanks for sharing!
my pleasure
bloody great tip.
thanks
Great job, thanks
Thanks for watching!
Excellent tip, Blackie. Thanks for sharing! 👍
My pleasure!
I miss my M-65. One use I haven't seen anywhere is as an emergency shelter. Well this comes close. My idea of stuffing and creating loft was newspapers. Sheet by sheet crumple that up into balls and stuff them into the void spaces. And yes it did tend to settle down at the low points especially so if you were on the move. But at rest, worked like a charm! So my advice would to is to pack a newspaper because you are not always going to find dry fluffy material out in the wilds. Oh yeah, bugs. They have a tendency to shelter in the leaf litter. They get warmed up they get active. Ticks in particular.
Very good
Thanks
Good video Blackie , thanks for sharing , God bless !
thanks for watching
Blackie, Great Video and Outstanding Information and Tips on M-65 Field Jacket. Thanks Again for sharing your Time and Knowledge and Wisdom. Tim L.
thank you so much for all your support
Have you ever explored the cold weather hood that buttons onto the field jacket?
Nice to know. You’re right those vets really know how to improvise, hubby did it all the time.
Yes they do
Great video
Thanks for the visit
You always have such good information on your videos
i try
@@blackoracle69 you do very well I always gain knowledge when I watch your vids
Warm trick. ❤️
it will help when ya got no other choice
Flat wrapping kinda like the windshield cover (also a good in a pinch insulator) for packages an glassware is a great thin insulator with alittle duct tape ,in a pinch works well also direct wrap around an even using garbage bags to thinsulate,(an even nylon stockings-(take a cigarette an burn a big enough front access hole) -are great in calf high snow an winds off the chesapeake bay pulling guard duty at the weapons museum at 2 a.m. huddled in a hollow in the buildings wall only time i wore my pyle cap,an i went to Germany after APG.),the only thing that limits one's abilities for survival is their own imagination
Good Poin...T
Pretty good idea I have one about leaves as well I heard!? You can pack them in a flat bicycle tire if you get a hole it the tube as well !! Wa Yea!! :)))))
If you don't mind a bit of noise, cut-up pieces of a super cheap $1-$3 Mylar Space Blanket with short pieces of Duct Tape to keep them in place work really well too.
good idea
I still got 1 of my original customery issue of 2. From 88'
I wonder if somehow a mylar blanket would be able to act as a lightweight space efficient emergency option. I would be interested to try it out and see if the condensation they can create would be an issue.
Thanks Blackie, I think some1 needed toilet paper because mine is cut out but I do have the button in liner
well that coat has a story to tell then lol
Guys, is the currently available Alpha Industries M65 a good version of this jacket?
Below are 3 links to videos of how Delta Force operators modified their M65 field jackets for combat and survival during Operation Eagles Claw.

seriously thinking of purchasing one but confuse on measurement....i'm interested in Medium size and its armpit to armpit is 46" but chest is 37-39"...plenty of room on armpit to armpit but chest will be snug....so what is the suitable size i have to think off and avoid returns
thank you
The scarecrow effect you can do the same thing with coveralls
yes indeed many a cold morning i had coveralls with newspaper stuffed down the legs as brush guards for briars pushing heads for bunnies
I wore that Jacket From 1972 to 1976,,From Ft Dix, Ft Benning.Ft Bragg,,Ft Riley,Ft Leonard Wood, Still have it, Be 51 yo in oct 23
You wore the jacket from birth to 4 years old? Your numbers don't add up.
thank you for your service
Very cool. Is there some special method of folding and storing the hood back into the collar? I find mine flopping around down the middle of my back and it's uncomfortable when sitting or leaning back against something. I almost want to cut it out.
i will address that point in a video very soon
@@blackoracle69 Excellent, thanks!
