I absolutely enjoyed your videos on the M65. You have given me motivation to dust off my old M65 from 40 years ago and start wearing it again. I have noticed that some jackets have a button on the front of them at just above chest level (mine doesn’t) and was wondering if you knew the purpose of this button.
In any case, I really appreciate the time and effort you have made to share your knowledge and you have made a subscriber out of me. Ever forward!

I'll see if that works with my m65 copy too. here in Germany it is almost impossible to get an original m65. I've been following you for years and say most of what I've learned is from you. you are a great teacher.

Very close copy of genuine M65 Field jacket is made by Helikon Tex. Better than any kind of Rothco and the rest. Teesar Inc. is good, too.

That's super neat. I think it could be applied to almost any jacket that has enough room between skin and fabric. Carrying a bit of paracord in a quick deploy bundle and that could act as the waist cinch and hold the insulation from falling out. Love the m65 jacket videos

It’s to let water out and breathe those are made for a cold wet weather environment. You would also be issued pants with a liner and also a wool uniform. But yes you could stuff all your clothing with leaves nothing is better than the old issue wool liners. Have fun stay safe.

IN urban survival situations you would probably want to substitute wads of paper or rags for the leaves. I love your M65 lore, Rockie. I just wish I could find an affordable old 100% cotton version instead of the Chinese-made polycotton versions.

Another old trick is to use newspaper. This is pushed into the gap in several layers. First crumple up the paper, then smooth it out and insert it. The creases in the paper fill with body heat. More than one layer is important.

I miss my M-65. One use I haven't seen anywhere is as an emergency shelter. Well this comes close. My idea of stuffing and creating loft was newspapers. Sheet by sheet crumple that up into balls and stuff them into the void spaces. And yes it did tend to settle down at the low points especially so if you were on the move. But at rest, worked like a charm! So my advice would to is to pack a newspaper because you are not always going to find dry fluffy material out in the wilds. Oh yeah, bugs. They have a tendency to shelter in the leaf litter. They get warmed up they get active. Ticks in particular.

Flat wrapping kinda like the windshield cover (also a good in a pinch insulator) for packages an glassware is a great thin insulator with alittle duct tape ,in a pinch works well also direct wrap around an even using garbage bags to thinsulate,(an even nylon stockings-(take a cigarette an burn a big enough front access hole) -are great in calf high snow an winds off the chesapeake bay pulling guard duty at the weapons museum at 2 a.m. huddled in a hollow in the buildings wall only time i wore my pyle cap,an i went to Germany after APG.),the only thing that limits one's abilities for survival is their own imagination
