Thank you Blakie for bringing up this topic! My opinion is clear! Most ways work, but I personally never put anything around my neck! Except for some kind of scarf / shemag. In the past, I have had bad experiences with knives hanging around my neck.🙂

A low hanging sheath was used for the V42 knife for easy access too. I regularly carry a 4" blade in the upper left pocket of my M65. That works just fine. Sometimes I carry my knife in my boot. I strap it to my leg lust below my knee. That allows easy access. The drawback is that it is frowned upon in some settings. Some traditional hunting pants feature a special pocket for knife carry. The pocket is low enough to not interfere with a coat and prevemts the knife from flopping around effectively.

Great ideas! I don’t like digging under my coat for the knife either, and especially putting it back into the sheath. The soft shackle dangler idea is perfect! Good luck hunting!!

Interesting topic for discussion. Lately, I have been carrying my fixed blade bushcraft knife on the strap for my haversack. That puts it on the outside of my coat and not around my neck. One point though, it is not concealed. If you encounter others in the woods, they could be put on alert to a stranger in the woods with a knife exposed. You bring up several good points in this video. I’m here to learn from others. Enjoy all of the ideas shared in the comments section. Thanks, looking forward to more like this one. - Tennessee Smoky

@@BLACKIETHOMAS I guess it is somewhat dependent on the environment. In my area, Southern Appalachian Mountains, just as likely to run into a group of hikers, backpackers or folks going bouldering. They don’t necessarily expect to run across a couple of guys with bug knives and guns. Might cause some alarm with them. The hunters and backwoodsmen expect that kind of encounter more. Less alarming to them.

Great ideas. I quit wearing a knife that my coat covered years ago when I was told that some less than understanding officers could look at it as a concealed carry. Same with just the bottom of the sheath sticking out. An outside belt that carries my canteen works well and I can take it off when I get in my vehicle. That or attached to my shoulder bag.

I always wear my pistol belt outside my jacket with my knife on the belt (I always have my .357 on my hip when hunting just in case I need to put down a wounded animal quickly after the initial shot). The belt also "seals" the upper part of my body from the lower opening of the jacket, so when I'm bending and lifting in the field I don't get blast of cold or sub-arctic air (wearing my Parka) up my jacket and on my upper body. I keep spare rounds for my .300WBM on the belt as well a fire kit, it's keeps everything handy and out of the way of the jacket. Great video Blackie!

    Great video, Blackie. Thanks.
I have put metal rings on all of my sheaths. So that I can easily turn them into danglers. I also have a very large belt, that I will frequently wear on the outside of my jacket. But I have to say. Using a long strap, to let it dangle from my shoulder, is something I have not thought of. Gonna have to figure out a way to do that, on a couple of my larger knives. It's easy, but ingenious. Thanks for the suggestion.

Don't do the assassins hang you will lose a knife. Now for my northern friends, you can certainly gear up. Just release the belt notches a few. I do love the six way sheath and would love to have one and know Stitch Gear makes the very best sheaths and leather products, but it's a little hard for me to afford it at this time. Of course that will vary a LOT depending on where a person lives. Lol. Yep some people never realize being prepared for the hunt means having the gun dialed in. Personally I try and dial it in when I buy it and then check it 3-4 times a year to make certain the zero does not change. You might need the rifle or shotgun in all sorts of weather and temps so make sure it's ready to go at all times!

Easy to access, doesn’t get in the way, and all comes off in one piece if I need to remove my gear to do something.(like use the latrine) I carry a small knife around my neck for doing small tasks around camp when my gunbelt is hanging from a tree. Nothing annoys me more than having to remove a bunch of stuff and have to put it all back on when I get moving again. Takes me all of ten seconds to put my gear on and move out.

Only a hat knife sheath permits ambidextrous use in a manner rapid enough to meet critical knife access in a dire circumstance while eliminating the strangulation risk that claims the life of thousands annually worldwide. If you are not utilizing a hat knife sheath you are a danger to yourself and others.
Responsible knife owners use a hat knife sheath while also benefiting themselves with protection from dangerous UV light and providing lifesaving warmth to the head in cold weather extremes.

    • @NobleSavage44

Blackie might have some different opinions, but for me there are a couple reasons for the camo.
      1. I hunt in other seasons; archery when orange isn’t required. So I have camo.
      2. Rifle season in the north is cooler. Most insulated clothing comes in three patterns. Camo, Carhart : to much brown, and snow pants: black colored waterproof nylon which is noisy. You are right though camo is not necessary. Older timers wore denim and red coats.

I still have one (That I no longert fit in) with extra padding in the shoulders and loops inside the left pocket to hold lip balm, Vicks sniffer (inhaler) pocket flashlight etc.... You haven't considered the possibility of carrying the knife in your boot and up your sleeve as well. Much like sir Laurence Olivier in Marathon Man. Just in case you have to kill someone real quickly. Of course, you must beware of rolling downhill with a blade attached to your arm. 🙃🙂🙃🙂🔪

Why not just attach a knife to the haversack strap? It would be at a convenient angle, and with you when ever you have the bag. Also another belt over the field jacket is an option. A dangler even with a leg strap seems to be more inconvenient.
Again it is what ever works for you and your environment!

@@thebeastofbrayroad9382 i think its a cordless recorder that he matches the audio up with later on. Seems like an ultra pain in the ass to edit that way.

My biggest concern with a neck knife is if something should hit me in the chest. Don’t neck knife and drive!

Those guys are terrible shots. They ain't even close.
I don't like cord around my neck but those little metal ball like chains are excellent for carrying anything around your neck. They are strong but not so strong that you could strangle yourself with it. Same sort of chain dog tags are on. Probably same reason. I just my knives in my bag/s for legal reasons but that's just as handy as carrying one on my body. I've always a SAK in my pocket or on my belt, usually both. Para 3 in my pocket as well. Can't have too many knives lol.

Blackie , Thanks for sharing this great tip. Also for sharing your time and knowledge and wisdom and passing on the craft. I've never carried a Neck knife but have always thought about it , like a patch knife the Mountain men carried. Thank Again, You Are The Master Woodsman and Buschcrafter. Happy Thanksgiving to You and Mrs. Blackie. Tim L.
