You sank the first time because the heavy winds knocked your boat over. It's a flat sided boat with no aerodynamics to help relieve side-winds. Under heavy winds with a boat like that, you'll want to steer into the wind.

I think the reason why he ship listed was because if stormworks takes real life physics to the best of it's abilities, the waves as the rock the ship move with the natural frequency causing the the ship to rapidly swing and capsize. It could be that or Camodo hit something else and the damage with the damage from before caused water to rush in. My other theory is because the waves moved near the anchor room, the water went in enough when Camodo went down to check the interior, the water and damage both tipped the ship and why he nearly died from drowning.
Try using the ships side thrusters to get out of that dock instead of just throttling it and turning. Boats steer from the back they are nothing like cars.

It was definitely the waves, I was messing with this ship before and started putting the wind up, it almost immediately capsized with me deep inside.
